Had a lovely dinner with friends during "Greek Week" at Passwaters. Our appetizers were gemista, olive tapenade with humus and pita and souvlaki. Had we known the generous size of the appetizers we would not of ordered as much as we did. We split an entree of soutzoukakia (Greek meatballs) as we were pretty full from all the appetizers. We previously dined during Italian and Mexican weeks and were equally as pleased with our selections. We have also enjoyed the regular dinner menu and really enjoyed Sunday Brunch. The new GM Kyle is doing a great job updating the food and beverage offerings. read more

Ambiance is very nice however the service and food are terrible. Be prepared to wait 45 minutes for anything you order, and the wait staff could care less, they will be in the corner on their phones while you are waiting for your order. The food is very pricey and a great disappointment, the wings were dry and tasteless as well as the burger. It's such a shame that the service and food does not reflect the beautiful surroundings. Empty tables on a Saturday night should have been a warning! I took my sister for dinner and the food was deplorable. We each had the prime rib dinner and ordered medium rare. Both came out rare to raw with cold centers and barely warm. The fat content for each prime rib was over 30%. The sides were mashed potatoes which were hard, round lumps (no gravy) while the seared asparagus were non-existent on my plate but magically appeared on my sister's plate. I received frozen mixed veggies instead of the seared asparagus. Drinks were slow in coming even though the bar was 50 feet away. Horseradish sauce was served in little plastic cups and tasted like sour cream. No horseradish taste at all. Our waitress was doing her best, but she was also doing double duty in the adjacent ball room for a large wedding party. I think the wedding party took precedence over the dining room; thus the poor dinners served us. For $90 I would have expected better food and service. Don't try Passwaters Hertiage Shores as there are far better restaurants to enjoy great food and service while dining out. read more

We went there for dinner. Our waiter was very friendly and gave great service. I ordered a filet mignon steak and my wife crabcakes. The steak was excellent. My wife's crab cakes were a bit salty, and she mentioned it to the waiter, who said he would tell the chef. Being the main restaurant for Heritage Shores (retirement community), it is rather slow and unexciting, but still, the food was very good overall, and we are happy to recommend the restaurant to anybody visiting it. read more

Passwaters is the restaurant in the club house at Heritage Shores (HS), a retirement community. The presence of an on-campus restaurant was a major draw for my wife and I in deciding to move to HS, but unfortunately our experience at the restaurant was really bad. Atrocious service and sub-par food. When we arrived, there were only two other people in the restaurant, and four in the next-door bar. Once we were seated, the first waitress (there were 2, and I know their names but won't shame them) disappeared and a waitress #2 came into the room and started cleaning and setting tables, which should have been done before opening. After a full 10 minutes without either waitress asking if we'd like something to drink while looking at the menus, my wife said something about the wait, and waitress 2 said she'd be right over. A few minutes later she came and took our drink order, and just then waitress 1 reappeared with glasses of water for our table. It took 15 more minutes -- during which the other two diners finished and left and another couple came in: so still just 4 people in the restaurant -- before our drinks arrived. In fact, the 2 new patrons had been served their drinks while we were still waiting. My draft beer was flat, and the head was completely gone, leaving an inch of glass above the liquid, a clear indication that it had been sitting at the bar all that time; my wife's Shirley Temple had a bitter taste that she said was the worst one she'd encountered. When she asked the waitress (can't remember if it was 1 or 2) about the drink it turned out that the third waitress/bartender had pushed the lemonade button on the drink machine instead of the ginger ale. The second one was a correct mix. My wife ordered the catfish tacos that came with avocado crema, and I ordered the Caesar salad with salmon. I've been eating Caesars for decades, but this was the first time I was asked if I wanted Caesar dressing on the Caesar salad! Well, yeah otherwise its sort of a plate of lettuce. Anyway, I said "yes." Again, the interminable waiting, during which the other couple's food was served. When my wife enquired about our order, she was told that the kitchen had made a mistake with her tacos and was re-doing her order. Finally, the food arrived. Fish tacos --minus the avocado crema-- and Caesar salad minus the Caesar dressing, and with stone-cold salmon (from being left to cool while the tacos were re-done, I suppose). I pointed out that there was no dressing on the salad, and was brought a little container of it, but when I poured it onto the salad, it had a thick, gloppy skin that I tried unsuccessfully to get off the salad. I guess that container had been sitting out somewhere, like the salmon. I want to point out that this bad experience has nothing to do with the staffing issues we hear about these days. There was a 3rd waitress for the four golfers in the bar, and #1 and #2 never had more than four patrons, sitting at only 2 tables, during our ordeal. So a drink with tacos and a salad, and we were in the restaurant for exactly a full hour. Another point of annoyance was that when we gave our drink order, #2 asked for our last name, which my wife but asked why they needed it, #2's response was to ask her to spell the name but neither she nor #1, who was also at the table, could give any explanation other than that they needed our surname so they could "get-to-know" the customers. They really need to get-to-know how to do their jobs properly; management of this restaurant should get its act together and do some necessary training. read more

My husband and I moved into Heritage Shores in February. Last week was the first opportunity we had to eat at Passwaters. We brought three guests with us. We all found the food very good. The waitress was brand new and very sweet. She needed to come back to ask if everything was ok, but she was really trying. Our drinks were also very good and at a reasonable price. I will say Cesar salad should come with the dressing on it and the cups of dressing for the other types at least need to be a bit larger. Dry lettuce is not good. I will absolutely come again. One more piece of advice. Put real bread, not a bread stick in a basket and serve it. Bread can make or break a meal experience. read more

I am writing this as a plea to owner/manager to fix the serious problems at this clubhouse restaurant. This place should be a gold mine. It is truly lovely with beautiful views over the golf course. Instead it is a sad, underused place with a word of mouth reputation for bad food and terrible service. What we experienced at lunch today was beyond hideous. On this sunny Saturday the restaurant should have been full of golfers and residents and instead my husband and I were 2 of only 4 diners. (there were a few people in the bar) We waited well over 20 minutes for someone to take our drink order (all the while watching as our waitress washed and cleared a table from an earlier serving) Here is a litany of the problems with our food/drinks: -the bartender pushed the wrong button on the machine while making my Shirley Temple which made it undrinkable. -my husband's beer arrived flat and only filled 3/4 of his glass. -the kitchen messed up my catfish tacos which put the wait for our food at over half and hour (while the other couple who had arrived 10 minutes after us was served.) -the Caesar salad arrived with no dressing. The dressing they brought when we pointed this out was congealed with a gross skin all over the top of the container. --there was no avocado crema on my tacos -the salmon was stone cold Despite the total fiasco, no adjustment was made to the check and we paid over $50 for a lunch experience that was one of the worst-ever. And to put a fine point on it: this can not be blamed on Covid/lack of staff. There were plenty of wait staff to be seen. It is a management/training problem. Having a restaurant on the property was a big draw for moving to Heritage Shores. It is sad that we won't be going back. Passwaters is losing a ton of money from the many people here (and golfers) who would spend big bucks there if things were at least decent. I just hope someone who cares and can do something reads this and takes action. read more

13 bucks for an awesome buffet? Sold. I feel like this place is one of Delaware's best kept secrets! This restaurant is located in the Heritage Shores club house and EVERYONE is allowed in. And you should definitely come in. Because this buffet was bangin' They had the usual breakfast fare of bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits, and gravy but also had sweet potato pancakes and an omelet station. They had chicken cordon bleu with sweet potatoes and veggies that were amazing! The dessert station has a wonderful assortment of cakes, pies, cookies, and fruit. The place was practically empty on a Sunday around noon, but I'm not sure why when the food and service were so amazing! read more

At lunch for a group of six, three had really good entrees, two of us couldn't eat what we were served, one was OK. The crab cake, hamburger and triple salad were very good. The steak quesadilla and hot turkey sandwich were awful. The hot turkey was dry, the bacon was burned and the mornay sauce had congealed. It was awful and I sent it back. After a significant wait, the server brought a menu back, and I ordered meatball sliders, which turned out to be fine, after another wait. I was a little bit surprised, but not too much, that no one offered any kind of apology, or expressed any concern about the food that was returned to the kitchen. No manger, no cook, and the server simply returned it without comment. They didn't charge for the sandwich that was returned, nor was there any suggestion that they might comp the replacement order, which was only an appetizer, and $9 compared to the $10 turkey sandwich. The steak quesadilla was served on a plate that combined bbq sauce and salsa, which turns out to be an inedible combination, and it wasn't hot when it arrived. The dressing on the spinach salad was questionable, but that may simply be a matter of personal taste. The quality of the food was very uneven. The service was lackluster at best. I think that our server must have had other responsibilities outside of the restaurant area because she was mostly nowhere to be seen. She did not have any other tables when we arrived, by the end of lunch she had 2, possibly 3 more, so it didn't seem that she was overwhelmed with responsibilities in the dining room. We waited longer than we needed to for everything, even simple requests like a refill of a water glass. And the restaurant adds a 15% "service fee" to all of the checks. read more

We have gone here a several times in the past 8 years and it's just getting worse. This last time we have decided we will never go again. We went with our 2 children (ages 8 months and 2.5yrs). There was barely anyone else there only 2 other tables.. I have dietary restrictions because my son is allergic so we had questions. We ordered our 2.5yr old food first. The waitress never took my drink order. Which I wrote off since I only wanted water anyway. Once we figured out what I could eat we ordered. Our child's meal came out and she barely ate any of it because she filled up on the bread(our bad.) Over an hour later... Our kid is done eating and ready to go and we hadn't received either of our meals. We asked if we could get our dinner to go because filet mignon is so much better in a box! No we packed up our stuff and the manager came out and said... "I'm sorry" sooo..... With the already tacked on 15%gratutiy for nothing! We went home only to open our food and find that we didn't have the sides with our dish and we realized our child never got her ice cream that came with her meal. So I call... Only then do they offer us compensation. (I shouldn't have to ask, if you f-up you should offer compensation) and they gave us a 25$ gift card that we had to come pick up..great.... So for a 60$ plus tab that was an hour late and missing food and it turned into carry out instead of dining in we paid 35$plus some... And it wasn't that great... We picked up our card but we won't eat there ever again.. I'll find someone who will use the card at the bar I guess... So.. Wait... Then we still paid 60$plus for total crap. Don't eat here.. The food was great, I had the shrimp and crab meat pasta dish. Have been to this restaurant several times and the service has been decreasing time to time. The last experience I had will prevent me from probably ever going again. Service is just as important as the food, and it was terrible. Waited for drinks way to long, and there was only one other table of people. Oh and bussing? Yeah they put a tray beside your table and put your empty plates on it directly beside you. Are you kidding me? For a meal that's $160 for four people I expect more. read more

I'm trying to set up a small event at Sugar Beets. So far the communication has been horrible. No return calls or returned emails. The woman has the nerve to say that we are "playing phone tag"!! No, she and the staff just never respond. Than I made a few substitutions/no upgrades to the lite lunch menu and they say it will be $28 per person!!!!! Read the reviews but still stopped in for dinner. Calamari and eggplant Napoleon apps were fabulous. Their salads are large portions and a good choice of dressings. Servers were friendly and informative. I will definitely eat there again. read more

Our first experience at Passwaters was great. Can't say that for this visit. Our proteins were acceptable {steak and Crab cakes} however my brussel sprouts were not cooked and the potatoes were runny. My companion had vegetables that were not recognizable. NOW lets talk about the appetizer!!!! The pretzel bread and crab was so salty it could give you cerebral edema. The check was a shock with a service change?????of roughly 10 dollars and still encouraging a tip. I have been to many restaurants with much better food for much less cash. Passwaters was a major disappointment for me. I am thinking about getting married at Heritage Shores and we wanted to pilot out the kitchen to ensure that they were capable of putting out a good service. To be fair they had a hundred person wedding. To be not so fair, it was 7:30 when we arrived and the wedding started at 3:30, so the kitchen was probably not swamped with wedding cooking anymore. Needless to say, our experience was enough to make us nervous about asking them to serve our parents, let alone forty guests. To begin with, we sat down and the waitress took our drink orders. After some time we were all given water- my father ordered a soda but it never arrived (it was billed, though!). We didn't realize he didn't get his soda until the very end, or I would have spoken up. The tables were also set for a bread round, but there was no bread round. Though I don't expect a bread round, it was odd that the table were set as though there should be. The waitress raved over how good the beef kabob special was, leading to my mother ordering it. After several minutes my mother found out that they didn't have any more of their hyped up kabobs, so she needed to rush to find something else on the menu. We ordered, and it took another 30 minutes for appetizers to arrive. The dumplings and egg rolls that we ordered were both tasty. The egg rolls were the highlight for the night,but even they lacked a crunch. Instead the shell was thick and chewy- sort of bready. Before we were even done with our appetizers the waitress dropped our entrees off. It felt very rushed, and we were never able to finish our appetizers. My girlfriend's shrimp pasta was tasty, but it didn't really stick out to me. My dad got a crab cake sandwich that he said was acceptable. My mother and I got fish and chips. Initially we didn't get ketchup for our fries, but the waitress brought some after a few minutes. We were not given tartar sauce with our fish and chips, even though it was listed on the menu. It took over 10 minutes for them to give us the tartar sauce, at which point out fish was cold. Even before the tartar sauce wait, the fish and chips was lacking crunch as was a bit greasy, as though it had been sitting for a while. The fries were advertised as being "herbed pub fries" but they were actually plain old (possibly frozen) french fries.Though I do not expect a 5-star experience at a restaurant with this price point, I do expect the items to be as listed on the menu. We finish our meal and our plates are cleared. It's another 10 minutes until the waitress comes to offer a desert list. Unfortunately, there was no printed menu, so the barrage of ten or so items was difficulty for us to follow. We ended up getting nothing. Then, we got the check. The check billed us for the kabobs and a soda we never received. The waitress said she left things this way because the prices came out the same. This was incorrect, however, and the waitress was asked to at least remove the price for the soda we didn't get. Another ten minutes and the waitress finally come back with the corrected receipt and we finally got out of there. In the end, this is a especially big disappointment because it meant that we can't trust the kitchen to deliver on what is listed on their menu on three fronts. Service was weak, but I don't blame our waitress- I think there were problems with coordinating with the kitchen as well. They may have been overstaffed was well, but that makes me wonder if they would sufficiently staff a wedding or if things would be spread thin. Second, some of the food was not delivered as listed on the menu- the fries were not "herbed fries" and the tartar sauce was not provided like the menu said it would be. If we were selecting items for our wedding how could we be assured that the same thing wouldn't happen with the wedding menu? And lastly, the execution of some of the items was competent but not exceedingly impressive. Quality only goes downhill when you start cooking in bulk, and I do not have faith in their ability to keep quality up when cooking for a large crowd anymore. read more

Nice menu with different specials nightly. A wide range of sandwiches and fancier plates. It has something for every taste. I've been there several times with limited problems. Service can be a little slow sometimes, but the food makes up for it. Good value for what you get. read more
