Because it was such a scary concept, to send your passports and a bunch of personal information, off to a stranger, we called the American Express office in Houston and they referred us to Passports Plus. Overall, they did a great job. The passports arrived sooner than expected and because their website was so thorough, we were able to follow the instructions and didn't have any problems or delays in the processing. My ONLY complaint, and the reason I docked one star, is that the company did absolutely NOTHING to keep up apprised of the status of our order. Not even an email to let us know our passports arrived in their offices safely (we had to get that from our Fedex Tracking number). Or an email confirming our order (the confirmation came back as a printed sheet with our finished passports). Because this is such a nerve wrecking thing to do (mail off your passports), I thought a courtesy email or some kind of tracking system that told you where your passport was in the process would have been nice (i.e. Your passports have been received, Your passports have been delivered to the Brazil Consulate, your passports are on their way back to you.) I had to call up the offices to find out that our passports had been shipped back. But other than that, a great service!

For the most part the service has been to transactional too great, everything that you anticipate on several visits to a business. Since most of my business with this company has been prepaid label returns, I typically try to buy something like tape or stamps as I know they're not being compensated much and I do appreciate them being here and like to support locally own small businesses whenever possible. However today, I encountered something that was very disappointing and will very likely cause me to never to patronize this place again. It was a small slight, but a peak behind the drapes on how my business is appreciated. I entered the store today about 10 seconds behind another customer(woman). The individual behind the counter was involved in a conversation with a man, upon seeing me walk in she left the conversation and begin to help the woman that entered ahead of me. They spoke about packaging options, shipping rates etc the usual. While this is happening I'm standing calmly and patiently looking around at the advertising, poster board on how they bounced back from Harvey and trying to think of things that I can also purchase. I'm in no rush, I just ate lunch, I'm good. The individual behind the counter, looked away from the woman she was helping for a moment to ask me in a harried tone after looking at my envelope and label if I was just dropping off or if I needed any additional assistance. I responded that I was "dropping off, but wanted to get a receipt too." The usual as I had did on many occasions before Her reply and very harshly to me was "Well you'll going to have to wait, I'll get to you when I'm done" Like where the eff did that come from. I hadn't said a word to this individual and was minding on business calmly and patiently. Both of the other customers turned to me in surprise and another worker in the back stopped what she was doing and brought her gaze to me as well. Taken aback by her tone I responded that "no, I don't have an issue with waiting" and contemplated just walking out, but I already had waited about 5 minutes and had too much sunken cost. I was being lazy. The worker in the back got up quickly and assisted me. I thanked her and walked out to if possible NEVER return. I feel that the only reason I was spoken to in this way was based on my race. Every other person in that building was an older white woman or a middle aged white man with his annoying kid. I could feel the uneasiness in the room once i stepped in. As everyone keep looking at my hands like I was going to rob the place or something. On the drive I realized all of my previous experiences the staff were younger and consisted of the worker that ultimately helped me in a managerial role.

There were a couple of minor hiccups that were not because of anything he or his team did, and I contacted him about them and he was all about addressing them and finding a solution. His customer service is beyond 5 stars - trust me on that, and that alone is worth every penny spent. So let me explain why I know it is better to use a travel agent versus doing it yourself. The biggest pro is that if there is any problem, your travel agent can handle the resolution or at least do the fighting for you. Travel agents speak the language so they can get things done quicker and more efficiently than the "non-speaking" do-it-yourselvers. They have access to programs and sites that most of us novices don't even know about. It's as if they are shopping at the Mall of America versus the general public's Dollar General version. My husband and I took our daughter and her husband to NYC for a fun, gourmet focused trip, (daughter is a chef), and it was even better than we'd all expected. The hotel Scott found for us was absolutely amazing. It was smack dab in the middle of everything we wanted and needed not to mention is was a beautiful hotel. I wasn't sure about that and upon returning home I checked the rates via UPS Ground and USPS at their respective Web sites. I found that UPS Ground would have cost me $17.29 instead of $24.46 and USPS would charge me around $12, which is rather close to the Amazon's estimate. When I called him and confronted him that he overcharged me he said that the private places put an extra charge for their shipments. Perhaps it is true, although I wasn't aware that they take so much. In any event, I will move my shipping needs elsewhere.
