Other places were too dry, using the wrong kind of rice, etc. Ordered today via Yelp online ordering which was an awesome process! More businesses should do it! A couple of clicks, my info saved for next time and order ready to be picked up in 20 minutes! And I didnt have to give my cc #. Paid when I got there and I was out in less than 2 minutes! The good: 1. Sushi was delish! More fish to rice ratio!!! 2. Spicy tuna dry too (Im thinking it is the preferred Virginia style??) but better than other places around here 3. Generous ginger, wasabi and soy sauce The bad: (not too bad) 1. The drunken noodles was all stuck together, too little veggies. But lots of jumbo shrimp!!! The ugly: Nothing to note here. Had lunch there the other day. I had 2 spicy tuna rolls. First off..they were crispy. I could tell it was from the Nori. Weird sensation. Second..it was not spicy! In any way, shape or form. I had to add a hunk of wasabi to make it spicy. I have been here twice and this was the last time. If you are looking for TRUE spicy tuna rolls, go to Tysons Corner and eat at the sushi place (card Wasabi) in the mall with the conveyor belt. Best Spicy Tuna rolls ever!! read more

My husband and I found this place on Yelp and it did not disappoint! I'd say this place is a mix of Japanese, Thai, and Chinese. Great service and great food. Server was very attentive. I ordered the spicy California roll and my husband had the tuna sushi as appetizers and both were delicious! We shared the basil chicken and drunken noodles as our meals and they were pretty good too. But by far the best dish for us were the pancakes with curry-like dipping sauce. It was amazing! We used the leftover sauce on our steamed rice because it was so yummy! They have lunch specials too! We will definitely be coming back to try their other dishes! read more

Heard about this brand-new Asian restaurant in Gainesville and had to try it out. We arrived early on a Friday night and were lucky enough to grab one of the last few tables. The restaurant is fairly small and they were packed with people standing waiting for tables by the time we left around 6:30pm. My best advice, get there early! The restaurant is lovely with a very Zen aesthetic, dark wood floors and tables and simple wall decor. Seating is comfortable, although the tables are a little on the small side. I kept bumping elbows with my son throughout the meal. The food ranges from beautiful platters of sushi through hibachi style entrees, Thai curries and noodle dishes. If you like any style of Asian food you will likely find something to enjoy here. We ordered yellow curry and requested it mild, although the dish when it arrived was spicy enough to make me reach for the water. We also ordered shrimp, chicken and beef hibachi style with fried rice. Everything was cooked to order and arrived hot although the fried rice was a little bit dry. A dousing of yummy sauce fixed that though. Everything else was on point with nice complex flavors. Where the restaurant lost a star was in the shaky service. They were tremendously busy and the waiters were seriously overtaxed. As a result we had a longish wait between starters and main courses, had to ask for water refills and had to wait for a good 15 minutes for the check. Given the line of people waiting for tables I would have expected them to be more on top of that. I'm hoping the management will hire more waiters, particularly for the weekends. In spite of the service hiccups the food was yummy and we will be back for more. A great addition to the Gainesville restaurant scene! read more

Second time in, really like this place. They did a good job transforming us away from the little strip mall they're located in. Food is great they even have Uni which I love and the staff is very friendly. Bar feels a little odd, I'm used to bar height seating and this is table height, no biggie... We ended up ordering a lot of food (temptation roll, redskins roll, amazing roll, salmon skin roll, Hawaiian poke salad, seafood pad Thai , shrimp tempura, bottle of sake). In the midst of all the ordering the waitress forgot our salmon skin roll. Which to be honest we weren't that upset because we got a little carried away with ordering to begin with LOL. They say presentation is everything, well this restaurant sets the bar really high, not only for the food presentation but its taste. We were seated at table B8 on the right side of the restaurant. I started with my 22 ounce Sapporo canned beer for $7.95. We started with and shared two orders of pork gyoza for $9.90. We also shared the shrimp tempura roll for $8.25, Alaska roll for $6.95, tuna avocado roll for $7.50, eel avocado roll for $6.50, eel Q roll also for $6.50, black dragon roll for $14.95 and the Amazing roll for $16.75. As usual I also enjoyed my unagi don with ginger salad for $23.50. We took home their tuna lover roll for $14.95 and Flamingo roll for $16.95 for my son, who stayed home. My son ate them when we arrived home. We also took home some of our leftovers. My total bill was $160. Got delivery tonight. A la cart boton ebi and scallop nigiri sushi were the highlights. Several rolls were also very good, such as the lobster tempura and the epic scallop roll, but otherwise the rest of the sushi, sashimi and rolls were just decent. The weirdest part was that the sushi/sashimi platter came with no rice with which to eat the sashimi. Including rice with sashimi is standard in most places and traditional (日系人　だから　しています！). While I could see this as merely an oversight, this is the second time this has happened with a platter containing sashimi. The worst thing was the utterly inedible matcha mochi ice cream. The mochi outer was old and/or freezer burned to the point where it was no longer "mochi-mochi" and instead a dry and crumbly shell. The ice cream interior was like sand given how gritty it was. (The strawberry mochi ice cream was fine however). read more

Easily the best sushi place I've been in the area. They have a ton of speciality rolls so it's nice to have the variety. The vibe of the place inside is really nice especially for a date night. We've eaten there a few times and all the rolls have been really well done. And I know it's silly to say, but one of the best spider rolls I've had in my life. I dunno what their secret is. We have also gotten food to go there once- Seafood Pad Thai and Fried Rice. Both really good as well. Kinda odd that the pad thai came with salmon, but each pad thai is different around here. Seriously the best sushi in Gainesville-Haymarket. You will not be disappointed. Mango Salad and all of their specialty rolls are delicious and melts in your mouth. Also, it is very affordable too. Sushi tend to get pricey but Passion Fin has great prices. I've been here a handful of times, starting with its "soft open" in late November, and have also ordered takeout a couple of times. I love sushi, but have found some of the most local places pale in comparison to sushi closer in toward DC. I was very excited to see that Passion Fin was opening where the old healthy back store was in Gainesville. The website boasted gorgeous plates at decent prices, and I was a little gun shy. I have to say, though, after going to lunch, dinner, and having take out from here, the quality and service is spot on and perfect. My typical go to is the sashimi dinner and at Passion Fin, I've had different cuts each time. Sure, the typical tuna and salmon are well represented here, fresh and frosty cold, but I've also had scallop, red snapper, and striped bass, a great and delicious surprise. The Thai pineapple fried rice is big enough for a table appetizer and is some of the best I've had. The hibachi entrees are generous and very inexpensive, compared to local Japanese places. The restaurant is clean and pleasing, and the staff is very friendly and attentive, and watching the sushi bar is utterly entertaining. The web order system is absolutely seamless and orders have been attentively created and packaged, with extras that had been requested enclosed. Today was the first day of my vacation (aka doing nothing for the next week and calling it vacation, more like PTO). I decided I earned a trip to DSW and of course I'd treat myself to lunch since I live 10-15 minutes away and I don't often pass through just to eat. Everyone I know who has been here raves about the food so I ordered online for pickup. Huge plus, online ordering, if you are someone picky who likes to ask for substitutions or preferences that just might sound "annoying" on the awkward phone call to place an order. It's ok, don't furrow your brow, we have all done it and avoided it. So my food was ready in the 15 minutes promised and was waiting for me when I walked in. I didn't stay long but it looks very trendy and inviting inside. Moment of truth: I get home ready to dig in. The seaweed salad is exactly what you're expecting so have no fear. Some places don't use cucumber as a layer or add on but if you don't want to eat it you can easily pick the cubes of cukes out. I was not prepared for a California roll without cucumber because my whole roll eating life it's been there. But, no major change in taste so two thumbs up. The tuna was nice and fresh, very pillowy and soft. Overall I will definitely be back to try more menu items so I can update and feed my face. read more

This restaurant was great for a new Asian Bistro/ Sushi. The sashimi was fresh and flavorful. My mom and I shared the House Platter B for 2. The dish came in a love boat and had 2 special rolls that we got to pick. The epic roll and the redskin roll. The rolls in my opinion were too sweet for me, however it balanced out with the sashimi. Then 16 pieces of sashimi and 8 pieces of nigiri. One of the better sushi restaurants I have definitely tried in Gainesville. The server we had was also very polite and friendly.
