Great tapas for sharing! Visiting Winnipeg and our friends wanted to take us to this place, they had been before and really enjoyed everything. Located inside the Forks market, this cool small tapas place really impressed me. We ordered 8 dishes and that was plenty for 4 adults. Our server recommended 7, we got excited and ordered 1 more, the last dish we barley finished. Everything tasted great, and great portions for tapas. Service was really good. We went to The Forks for dinner to have a few bites from various places, and decided to finish our meal with the featured Lobster Risotto from Passero. Even though we were seated outside the restaurant, the server came out to bring our food and serve us at our table. The chef came and checked on us, which was a very nice touch. We watched the risotto being made from scratch (all that stirring) and the end result was cream but with a lasting bite; the dish was full of pistachios which in my opinion, outshone the lobster (in a good way). When we were done, I was so impressed, I promptly purchased a gift certificate for Christmas (and without expiry, which is a plus, in a pandemic). I'll definitely be back, as their menu is ever changing. read more

Order 2-3 dishes per person and share away. I don't love pastas but theirs are very good especially the carbonara. The menu changes every season or so. Food was delicious but a bit heavy on the mayo and butter. Some portions are normal size, but some are tiny so it's difficult to know how much to order. I'm going to post photos that are not the food they presented. They are photos of the plates I'd have licked if it weren't so rude. We had ricotta/ balsamic spread on sourdough. We had a buratta salad. We had tagliatelle with chèvre. They pulled five stars from both of us on all three. I'd be back here weekly if I lived here. It's extraordinary. And it's a fun night. We had and absolutely outstanding meal and a lot of fun. This is by far the best Italian food -best food along any kind - we've had in the evening. Breakfast at Clementine was top notch. I dine here 2-3 times a year with my fiancè and we both love it. Ambiance is cosy and warm. Service is always excellent with a great selection of wines. The servers are knowledgable and typically have a smile on their faces. It's always nice seeing small menu changes whenever we do visit. The plates are smaller but the flavours are exceptional. Cool to see the chefs hardly speak during dinner rushes, meaning they're totally in sync. I hear that they have moved from the Forks to South Osborne, so I should definitely try the new spot. My wife and I visited Passero for the first time last night. We were presented with two menus, the daily specials and the regular menu. We tried dishes from both. Our server was one of the best ever- engaged, fun, knowledgeable, polite, she was a big part of why we enjoyed ourselves so much. The food was very, very good. Between the two of us we ordered six dishes. Highlights were the specials, the soft cheese appetizer with the fig jam and the second dish, tomatoes cooked and raw mixed. The tuna was excellent. The pastas were good, with the beef tagliatelle being our favourite. My wife and I are already looking forward to our next visit as there are many more dishes we want to try. read more

Great spot for a good meal. Menu is small but good. The plates are meant for family style dining. There were 3 of us so we shared 6 plates - the ricotta starter was fantastic we asked for more helpings of bread so we could clean the bowl. The tomato salad was slightly spicy and super tasty. Next was the mushroom and black garlic with chips. The black garlic gives this dish such a rich flavor it was perplexing if you've never had black garlic before. We had the stewed octopus in a red sauce that was amazingly tender and delicious and the 24h short rib tagliatelle as our main dishes. My least favorite was the short rib dish unfortunately it just did not live up to the flavors of the dishes before it. All in all this meal did not disappoint. Fantastic flavors and great ambience and decor made for a unanimousgreat meal. The yellow-fin tuna carpaccio is still the best bite of food I've ever had. Epic. read more

I LOVE this place. It's currently my favorite restaurant in Winnipeg. Lovely location, beautiful atmosphere, and fabulous service. Service is extremely attentive and informed of the menu, wine, ingredients, everything. This is very good for me because there are certain things I can't eat and thankfully the wait staff has always been highly aware of pointing out ingredients. You can see what the chefs are doing up at the bar top through a glass partition, and everything is clean and spotless. Very hygienic and transparent. The menu is GORGEOUS. I will always want to order the whole entire menu, and if I can't, of course I'll have to come back and try more! I love that they rotate the menu but not the whole thing. They keep their most-loved items, which I am so grateful for, as I HATE when my favorite menu gets changed completely and there's nothing left of the old menu I loved so much. Anyway, a few standouts: the gnocchi, as well as the BEST octopus I've EVER tasted on this side of the Pacific. My personal favorite is their beet salad (I even said I wanted to recreate it for a dish for my wedding). Literally every single bite I've taken at this place has been amazing, and I would go back every week if my wallet could afford it! read more

This is one of my favourite restaurants in the city. The best Italian food for sure. I've eaten here several times and have never been disappointed with the food. The service is also amazing and they have a consistently good wine selection. I love the location in the forks market, the atmosphere is always buzzing. I think the menu changes regularly but they have the best carbonara in the city and that seems to always be available. Had dinner with a friend. Called for reservations 4 days before and wasn't able to get a table for 6:30pm, already booked up, but was able to reserve seats at the Chef's Counter. We really enjoyed sitting there! It was neat to get to see the different dishes being put together. Wouldn't be very conducive to conversation if you were more than 2 people. Tapas style restaurant; order dishes to share. We originally ordered 4 dishes: asparagus salad, beef tartar, gnocchi, and the prawns. All were seriously delicious. And honestly, I don't like asparagus at all normally, this was seriously good. As we watched the other dishes being prepped we decided we really wanted to try the cauliflower that the waiter had recommended, and it as delicious. This 5th dish put me over the top as far as feeling a bit too full, I'd say 4 dishes between the 2 of us would have been perfect. But it was all so yummy we wanted to try more things! The food here is not worth it at all. Wanting to see what all the hype was about, an out of town friend and I decided to check this restaurant out last night instead of our usual go to restaurants like Peasant Cookery, Sous Sol and Segovia. We ordered 4 dishes: the salami plate, tomato salad, steak tartar and scallops. All 4 dishes were below average-for the eyes and the tastebuds. The salami plate was poorly presented and the meats were just ok. The tomato salad was a sloppy mess of bland tomatoes and other ingredients that could not give any life or interest to the salad. The steak tartar was very tasty and tender, but had a boring presentation and the bread served with the steak tartar and salami-also bland and boring. The scallops were served with pine nuts and raisins, which sounded interesting but did not work overall-and to make it worse, the scallops were brought to us warmish and dry. There were 3 scallops, and after eating one each, we didn't even care to eat the last one except that dish was $25 for 3 scallops so we forced that last one down dammit. It isn't unusual for my friend and I to spend big money on good food and wine at restaurants, but Passero fell completely flat and delivered nothing that warrants more than 1 star. I did send this feedback to the manager of Passero. It wasn't well received. In fact, the owner of Passero personally called me today to tell me that he thought I was a miserable C*NT and to have a miserable f*ck*#g life. Yes, that did happen. read more
