Its looking a little tired and old inside, and is in need of a bit of a makeover. Some of the tables have uneven legs, some of the chairs are looking a little threadbare, so in order to make this place special, the food would have to be spectacular. It isnt, of course. Its ok, but no better than that - there are a couple of much better Indian places close by. In defence of the Royal Tandoori, its reasonably priced - you can have three courses for less than £18, and its always pretty lively in there when its busy. Its a shame the food is just a slightly better standard than your average takeaway food. The staff are friendly and efficient, and it never takes long to get your food, its all just a little basic. Fine if you just want a quick meal, but of you're looking for somewhere to go as a treat, this isnt a place I'd consider using. They also do a takeaway service (non delivery) and this is what they're a little better suited to. On the whole, its ok. No more, no less.

All excellent with fresh herbs you could taste and no ghee in sight. Main courses lamb and aubergine, lamb with okra, chicken in coconut sauce. All fantastic and huge portions. We had three rice between four of us and that was too much. We tried coconut, tomato and pilau rice. All fantastic. Bombay potato was simply sublime. Let down a bit with dirty tablecloth and grease smeared menus and a young drinks waiter who didn't listen properly. But these are small points and are no detraction to an excellent meal. Head and shoulders above any curry house I have been to in this country. Try it, you will not be disappointed

Cold and wet Sunday left me wanting something hot and spicy. Tried this…read more place on recommendation from a friend. Noticed a few unusual items on the menu such as pheasant and venison and a lot of fish. Ordered from the set menu of three course for 9.95. First course is poppadoms and the pickle tray. Second was a choice from about 8 starters. I had chicken wings. Three of them. Not bad but nothing special. Mate had sheesh kebab. Two spicy sausages of lamb. These were very tasty and moist. Best part of the meal. Mains were Afghan lamb in a brown sauce and a chicken in a red sauce called Punjabi taste, promised green chillies but I had none.. Both meats were cooked but both sauces were bland and virtually tasteless. They came with a choice of four rice or four bread. We had one pilau and one garlic naan. We had a reasonable bottle of Malbec for 15 pound with it. Service was friendly and efficient. Open kitchen at back so you can see them cooking whilst you are waiting outside the only toilet. I am pretty sure our mains were bland because we ordered from the set menu. I will go again and will opt for one of the game or fish dishes. They have a website with the menu on and I suggest looking at that before you go. Although I have called it a standard curry I am pretty sure that is down to what we ordered. The menu does promise some rarer dishes and I am hoping they will redeem this place for me

I also personally like this kind of places - higher-end, great food, well trained and friendly service, but not uptight. Our second visit, seamlessly booked by the wonders of the internet. Hopes were high, as the…read moreprevious meal had been so full of flavour. Initial signs were good, efficient friendly service and a lively atmosphere. We were shown to our table in the same small room at the back where we had previously been at Christmas, this time it contained a lot more tables to cater for the bank holiday crowd, felt a bit more like a canteen because of it. We chose two fish dishes, as that's what the Marine is known for, sadly no seafood burger on the menu this time. We went for the spiced hake in a ginger and coconut sauce, and the lemon sole with prawns, and lemon and parsley butter. No significant vegetables to speak off with them, so we ordered two side orders (bane of my life!) of mixed leaves and chips. The small bowl of leaves with a little bottle of dressing, was not worth the £2.95 extra, the chips did pep up both dishes though. As for the main dishes, the hake's gentle flavour was swamped by the spiciness of the ample sauce it came in, a shame. The lemon sole lacked any real flavour too and much of the sauce it needed to give it flavour. So disappointed, both dishes weren't cheap either. Maybe we caught it on an off day, or maybe it was the choice of dishes, either way we won't be rushing back. I thought this visit would increase the Marine to a solid 5, but sadly its gone down to a 3, mainly only because of the wonderfulness of the Seafood Burger, on our previous visit.

This place was recommended to us by the guy who ran the caravan site we where staying at nearby, he did warn us not to have a starter though as he said we wouldn't eat the main course, and how right he was. I opted for the 32oz steak and yes it did beat me, the chips (which I don't normally have) where home made as where the onion rings. My partner's steak and ale pie was also excellent and I couldn't complain about value for money. we enjoyed it that much we returned on the Sunday before heading home again. The Beef salad my Partner had was excellent not just a slice of beef and cloth lettuce, but a few good thick tender slices of beef with a salad complimented with allsorts including melon and all the trimmings as was the duck I had. We will look forward to visiting here again.

They serve John Smiths and Tetley bitters on cask which they keep quite well. For my lunch I had the mixed meat Sunday dinner. The portions were huge but yet again it was three quarters veg. The beef was not in slices but rather in bits like I had the scrapings off the bottom of the tin. The chicken and pork were also very dry as if they had been kept hot for a long time. I was very surprised to find battered asparagus and battered parsnip on my plate and quite frankly never want to see them again. My friends had Gammon, Steak and Ale pie and Chilli. I envied their choices as they looked much fresher and vibrant then mine. I feel that the quality of my food suffered as I had ordered something of which they would have prepared lots of portions of whereas my friends were cooked as they ordered. Next time I go I am going to try their 32oz steak which they knock out for just under £20. However I definitely would not eat Sunday Roast here again and would not recommend it to anyone. At £31 for four meals I found it reasonable.
