Driving & parking was a bit of a struggle. Trenchers made everything right with our world. My husband had cod fish & chips. He said it's an 8/10. May seafood salad was phenomenal. Service was outstanding. So glad we started our walk about with full, happy bellies.

Went during Goth weekend so we were expecting a wait anywhere we went. We waited about 20 minutes outside. The host offered everyone a menu and asked how many were in each group. By the time we arrived inside, the host then asked if we were ok with a smaller booth (just two of us). It was nice that he asked instead of assuming!! Some people would have preferred a larger booth but we didn't mind! Waitstaff was kind, attentive and thoughtful. We both ordered a regular size fish and chips. It was huge!!! Wish I would have ordered a small! I recommend stopping here while in Whitby! The best part was the display of where the fish and potatoes were acquired! Fish from local fisherman and potatoes from local farmers! Super cool!

Yes, yes, yes!!! The fish is so fresh and the filets they use are ginormous! Never have I had such flaky, buttery fish. Not only do they give a huge helping of fish filet, but there's a load of chips to go with it. I recommend sharing a fish & chip platter with a buddy (even though devouring it by yourself is tempting). Make sure to add malt vinegar for a little punch with all your lemon and tartar sauce goodness! If only I could come back again soon... If you have large groups, definitely recommend reserving ahead of time. Be prepared to get some looks from all of those waiting in line though!

Ordered the seafood salad, fish and chips, fish pie and everything tastes good. Highly recommend the seafood salad. Everything tasted really fresh!

We all had a full English and there was not one trace of grease on the plate, amazing. I just wish we had another evening in Whitby to sample the very attractive evening menu. The owners should be proud. Great place.

Initial signs were good, efficient friendly service and a lively atmosphere. We were shown to our table in the same small room at the back where we had previously been at Christmas, this time it contained a lot more tables to cater for the bank holiday crowd, felt a bit more like a canteen because of it. We chose two fish dishes, as that's what the Marine is known for, sadly no seafood burger on the menu this time. We went for the spiced hake in a ginger and coconut sauce, and the lemon sole with prawns, and lemon and parsley butter. No significant vegetables to speak off with them, so we ordered two side orders (bane of my life!) of mixed leaves and chips. The small bowl of leaves with a little bottle of dressing, was not worth the £2.95 extra, the chips did pep up both dishes though. As for the main dishes, the hake's gentle flavour was swamped by the spiciness of the ample sauce it came in, a shame. The lemon sole lacked any real flavour too and much of the sauce it needed to give it flavour. So disappointed, both dishes weren't cheap either. Maybe we caught it on an off day, or maybe it was the choice of dishes, either way we won't be rushing back. I thought this visit would increase the Marine to a solid 5, but sadly its gone down to a 3, mainly only because of the wonderfulness of the Seafood Burger, on our previous visit.

Bino's falls short with its sparse service. The waiting staff seem under-trained and the kitchen staff overworked. A couple of complaints in this vein would be the cordials not being stirred, the waitress not knowing the menu, and the chef not thoroughly washing the salad. The old couple at the next table weren't served their food at all and left saddened though this plight was not suffered by my party directly, it is a grim thing to witness. Please note that this all took place on a bank holiday Monday so the staffing problem may be contained to this one occasion. The atmosphere of the bistro (incidentally, bistro stems from the Russian word bistra meaning fast which shines an ironic light on the aforementioned service) is decent. Small and busy without feeling crowded, the big windows let the single room evoke a sense of roominess that its size should make impossible. The prices are varied and contain some very tasty seafood as well as pork, steak, pies and poultry for around £7.00, as well as this is the highly recommendable sea food platter for £15.00. One suggestion to the chef would be to have the mussels in the sea food platter served in a ramekin with a sauce. Whilst mussels scattered on the plate make for interesting presentation the same cannot be said for the flavour. The crab was divine though, kudos for that.

The room was so warm, I thought I had night sweats on Halloween/All Souls Day, turns out the bedding and thermostat made for a warm night, at no point during my stay here did I feel cold. The staff... I confess, the young girl with the dark hair and dark eyes who never told me her name (because I never asked) and she never showed me to my room, I have a crush on her, when I first saw her I thought f', I like you; (My Whitby Crush) but I'm too chicken shit / shy to act on it, but, this hotel's the best I've used in Whitby on this trip (I've used 3 hotels here and am writing this from the third Hotel I'm using here that I'm going to review once I've checked out, the White Horse & Griffin is the best and only £10.00 more per night than the other 2 hotels) because the Wi-Fi doesn't have any parental control on it and you can watch adult content on it and this place doesn't try to treat you like a child putting on any nonsense porn blockers; so the Wi-Fi works and doesn't filter anything and respects you as an adult. The room is warm and the bed is warm and waking up on a cold winter's morning isn't felt in this hotel because it's so warm, it's nice, and there's no cars heard passing because the main road outside isn't really used by traffic. I stayed here on Halloween which arguably Whitby seems to live for or, is a big night of the year for this destination at the very least, so I heard a little bit of the festivities going on in the bar downstairs, but that's the only fault and it's a minor fault and it's Whitby's biggest day of the year *citation required, so all is forgiven but the friendly staff and warm room, location and Wi-Fi situation make this the best hotel I've used here. Also, there's some historical providence to this hotel.

LOVED IT SO MUCH ASKED THEM TO CATER OUR WEDDING!!!…read more We were in town visiting the town of Whitby. I was told to try out the White Horse + Griffin for a drink. I was surprised by it's size of the bar + overjoyed by the quaint restaurant down below (few steps down). The charm was so inviting I made dinner reservations there that evening. We enjoyed the wine selection as well! I brought my mother, my fiancé, + my future aunt... I was surprised how fantastic the cuisine was. To quickly stereotype myself: I am an American who works in the culinary world- so I can tend to be snobby about my food. I was wowed by the experience + quickly contacted them for catering our wedding. Ed was our main contact. He spent a lot of time skyping with us + making plans. He worked with our budget + to be honest wowed all our guests. I would recommend them in a heartbeat! I wish we could host another event there! We had our rehearsal dinner at the restaurant... upstairs private dining area. It was perfect. The next day had our wedding breakfast at a centre across the way. There offsite catering was spot on! Best WEDDING menu + food ever offered. This was a unanimous consensus from all of our guests.
