Steve, the owner, is a man of few words. But when he speaks, it's very helpful. Him and his wife are very knowledgeable and give good advice. Their inventory is huge too. Every Sunday, they get new coral and fish and give 20% off. I found a couple dead fish in some of the tanks. It gives me joy finding them for some reason. This is, in my opinion, the best store for saltwater fish in the San Gabriel Valley. This store has a good selection of soft corals and the prices can't be beat. There is also a good selection of fish.There is a lot of nice looking live rock there too of which I purchased about 4 lbs. It looks great in my tank. The staff is really nice and know their stuff. They have some cool looking fish and more of a variety than some of the other aquarium stores in the area but 70% of them appear to be sick. The good: Large store, fairly wide selection of both freshwater and marine livestock. The bad: Most of the saltwater fish I saw had ich. Almost all of their SPS coral are dying and/or bleaching. *DO NOT BUY RO/DI WATER HERE* (tested at 300+ PPM with a calibrated TDS meter) In short, not the place for serious saltwater hobbyists. read more

I can only give this store 1 star. For the good thing, they have pretty good collection of fish, plants as well as equipment. most of them have fair prices. plants are a little bit expensive though. For bad thing, they may cheat clients, they mislead consumer in the name of fish so that they can sell at a higher price. For example, they sold me some fish they claimed to be 'goby' for 12 bucks each, but turned out to be just swamp darters (native american fish, common hitch hikers in cherry shrimp tanks, most fish stores will give them away because they will eat small cherry shrimps). Awesome place! Some others on here just don't get it. Most of the fish that had something at some point and are scared are big and older. Unlike other shops they don't kill off or throw away the sick. There are a couple scared older fish I've seen there for 6 years. Obviously they wont sell but they have the heart to let them live out their life. Owner always gives me great deals and is really nice once you get to know him. read more

Just went there yesterday, looking around for more live rock. As much as they do have them, even though I believe they are cured as they are inside the tank, it looks so disappointing, a lot of flies and it's underneath another tank, it just looks unappealing to pick at all. The displays are nice and they have lots of supplies that you think you don't find it at regular fish store. Service is friendly and the way they organize their tank is great, they put what fishes are aggressive and docile, it's very helpful. This review is written on the slim chance that the owners will read it, and perhaps consider some changes. First, this IS the largest and most extensive collection of tropical and marine fish, as well as reef creatures in the San Gabriel Valley. The couple that owns this store has been in business for a very long time. However, I should add that over the past 6 months or so that I have been visiting, the general quality of this store seems to be declining. I am not sure what is going on, but marine tanks are empty, or sick or something.......recently a number of reef corals were left to die for all to see in one large viewing tank. This makes me wonder. After doing some investigative reading about what makes for a good LFS, it seems that these owners (husband & wife from what I can tell) are just getting by, and don't seem to really care if you come in the door or not. The husband, (I think his name is Steve) is quite abrupt and seemingly indifferent to questions - he seems generally annoyed to have to help. I have asked him several questions recently about marine tanks (I am interested in one in the next year - I could easy spend $3,000+ for one, should I choose to) and his answers are uniformly negative. He makes me feel awkward, just asking a question. How can someone have this kind of demeanor, and expect to be a real success in this business? In summary, my review rates a "Meh", as this is a nice general set up, but with customer service that is completely alienating. By contrast, I dream for a place like this in our area. Came here a few times, only because the charter communications are their neighbors, the place looks big, they have a big variety of corals and frags. Couple of times tried to buy some corals but the prices were too ridiculously expensive. Good selections of freshwater fish and salt water fish. They have a lot of specific aquarium supplies, some you can't find at regular Petco. I wanted a specific aquarium light and I looked everywhere and a Petco employee recommended me to come to PTC and PTC did have the light. A husband and wife run the place. The husband looks unwelcoming sometimes as if i'm bothering him when I want him to scoop out a fish. The wife on the other hand always has a smile on and is happy to help me. They are both nice and knowlegable about fish. When I first started my aquarium, I always ask them a bunch of questions. Price is average. Overall a good aquarium store. read more

First time at ptf,,,,, they have a great selection off hard to find fish, especially goldfish..... Large store with all you need live stock and supplies, but lacking customer service. they seem a little rude or unfriendly I guess. Other than that the store is kept up with healthy livestock. If you like goldfish like I do than this is the place to go. Prices are fair.... Absolutely no bargaining here, ask for a discount for large purchases on fish and they'll straight turn you down... Absolutely the worst saltwater setup I've ever come across. They have tangs that are so poorly taken care of.... It was pretty damn sad! Every tang in every tank had HLLE and half of them were missing most if not all of their fins. I would never recommend this store to anyone. I would actually discourage it as much as possible! PTF has a large selection of saltwater and tropical fish (including huge koi and rarer large fish like giant gourami). Prices are quite reasonable as well. I bought my Clear for Life 55-gallon acrylic tank with light here for ~$150. Better price than anywhere else I've seen. I've had the aquarium for a year now and it's been great. They also have a good selection of aquarium needs -- dry and frozen foods, water treatment, medications, etc. The owner couple have always been quite friendly and helpful to us. They are also honest about what size tank is needed for certain fish, which suggests to me that they care about the future well-being of the fish, rather than just wanting to sell you the fish. I saw dead fish in bags, the dirties tanks I have ever seen, and inhumane conditions. Sick and dying fish in every tank due to poor conditions. If you are a true enthusiast you will NOT support this store. STAY AWAY, you do not want whatever gross funk and diseases that exist in this store to contaminate your tank. If that doesn't sway you, then at the very least don't waste your money buying dying fish from this store that will only last a day or two once you get them home. STAY AWAY. The owner takes very poor care of the fish he sells, many are kept in thanks as big as a soup bowl. When you ask the price of something that may interest you it seems as if he is making a courtesy to revelal how much something costs. The water is not clean, there are bacterias and aiptasia in many thanks (look carefully uder the rocks!!). I got two fish very recently and they both died within two days. They offer no warranties at all, and if the fish you just bought die, you are screwed. The prices of their supplies is way above market (check Big Al's online, and you will be suprised to see the difference!!!). The woman (probbaly his sister) is very kind and always available to answer your questions. The guy (I beleive the owner, an asian man) seems always irritated by seeing people in his store, and never tells you more than "yes" or "no". Overall, it could be a nice place to buy fish if they hired someone to help them clean the water or treat ill fish with proper care. I think i am going to explore other stores; I don't want to go home and realize I wasted $200 because the seller sold me a sick fish! (with the risk that my all thank will be affected!!!) read more

Great service! Was having trouble with my Fluval 306. PTF not only had all of the spare parts but wa willing to test the system after I had more trouble getting everything to work. PTF is without a doubt the largest, most well stocked fish store I have ever visited. The prices may not be the most affordable and customer service can be a bit unsettling at times, but they make up for it with sheer inventory. They have a beautiful selection of saltwater fish/inverts/corals, tons of freshwater fish & plants in stock, koi, and all the accessories you could ever want. A buddy of mine came in with a broken filter and a solution was found within seconds. Despite perhaps being a bit understaffed for such a large store, tanks are definitely well kept. read more

Great store and knowledgeable about fish. But I just brough home 4 fish and went back to buy more, the tank mine came from where quarentine. I came home straight away. My tank was in ruins, ich on all my tetras. All 20 of them fins gone and swimming funny. Then I realize my other tank was in shambles too. My $60 golfish are falling apart. I can only speak to freshwater experience...It is a large store with a lot to offer. There are a lot of decorations available and the staff was nice to me and let me borrow a measuring tape. I didn't notice any issues with the fish in particular. This review is slightly biased as there aren't any other places to compare it to besides Petco and Petsmart in the area. A lot of products are priced, and some are not. Don't be surprised to watch the price jump up as the cashier just assigns a number to an unpriced product; in my case the margin was very high in favor of PTF.
