Dr. Shankar Lakshman saved me from being handicapped and from constant pain on my left wrist/hand. Here's my story, On 11/26/2016 I fell & broke my left wrist, on 11/29/2016 I met with a hand specialist through my insurance, she said I had to have surgery immediately due to both wrist bones were broken, one bone had splintered. I had surgery the next day (11/30/2016) to repair both bones on my left wrist. After the surgery the surgeon came to see me, she said everything thing went well. The next time I saw my surgeon was 2 weeks later, she looked at my wrist and said I was doing fine and put me in a removable splint & told me to get into Hand Therapy as soon as possible. Three weeks after that I went to see the surgeon again and she said I was doing great even though I was in pain and said to continue my hand therapy. Shortly after the appointment, my hand therapist wanted me to go back to the surgeon to see why my range of motion was frozen, painful & swollen, she suggested an x-ray. Late January 2017 I went back to see my surgeon, requesting x-rays to see where the problem was. She took 1 x-ray and told me everything was great and was healing beautifully, she said that I would always be swollen and that I will never be the same, I never saw the x-ray and took her word for it because I trusted her. This is when I had my first series of Cortizone shots for pain, swelling and lack of movement, Januray 2017 through October 2017 I had 9+ (I lost count) Cortisone injections, October was my last visit with this surgeon, I was seen for about 5-10 minutes each time at this point, it was "oh here she is, let's give her an injection and send her on her way" I didn't feel like I was taken seriously and was being dismissed. Due to all of the injections, I was experiencing continued bruising, red blotching, thinning of the skin, and was constanting bleeding at and around the injection sight, also had an adverse reaction in my knee tearing the Polaris muscle, which is rare. After I recovered from the torn muscle, in January I requested a referral from my insurance company for another surgeon to look at my wrist, I truly thought my Plate & Screws were preventing my range of motion & constant pain. My wrist had regressed, I started to lose all strength and motion, which caused me to drop everything I held in my left hand. On March 22, 2018, my life changed forever. I saw a new surgeon, Dr. Shankar Lakshman, he looked at my one and only after surgery x-ray I had from January 2017, I was shocked to learn of a broken ligament that wasn't addressed during the original surgery & my wrist was collapsing onto itself, the bones were rubbing against each other and arthritis started to set in from the Cortisone shots. It took Dr. Lakshman 2 minutes to see the broken ligament, he showed me the x-ray and pointed out where the ligament had been severed. Dr. Lakshman took several more x-ray's that day and determined that I needed surgery to repair the wrist and ligament. Dr. Lakshman performed a full reconstruction of my left wrist and reconnected my ligament on May 11, 2018. Dr. Lakshman, his assistant and the anesthesiologist all came in to see me before surgery to go over everything that was going to happen, I knew I was in good hands & everything was going to be ok. Dr. Lakshman's assistant came and saw me afterwards to let me know everything went well, such a relief. My surgery was several hours long, and was actually 2 surgeries. One to reconstruct my wrist, removing the oversized plate and screws, rebreaking my wrist, installing appropriate sized plate and screws, and then flipping my wrist over and reinstalling my ligament with a bone anchor with pins to stabilize it. Each post surgery appointment, Dr. Lakshman took several x-rays to make sure everything was healing properly. Dr. Lakshman has been so understanding & kind, I felt like he genuinely cared for my health & well being. Dr. Lakshman has always been upfront with me on my recovery which I appreciate so much, he took the time to explain everything to me. Due to all the trama, my recovery is going to take a while. I have been in Hand Therapy for 5 months now and I am progressing beautifully. I am very strong on my left hand and wrist and that I'm pain free with no cortisone shots! Today, I can now hold my new granddaughter confidently without hesitation, knowing I am strong and whole again. I smelled nothing but confidence and given that I have always dreamed of fine tuning post having 5 kids and shy of 40 I want to go to the best for a mommy makeover. I came to Dr. Lakshman 2 months ago for a breast augmentation consultation. I had done a lot of research before going to him and even saw a few other physicians before him. I learned there are non-surgeons and non-plastic surgeons calling themselves plastic surgeons in town and I have written reviews about them because I find that so scary. Dr. Lakshman is a board-certified plastic surgeon with years of training and experience. His office staff were friendly and welcoming. He spent a whole hour going over the procedure and answering all my questions. His price is reasonable and less than the Beverly Hills cosmetic docs. It has now been 6 weeks since the surgery and I couldn't be happier! I have a natural look and had no complications. Dr. Lakshman personally took care of me from the initial consultation through every post-op visit. He has a wonderful bedside manner and makes the whole experience comfortable for me. I was recommended by one of my previous co-workers to Dr. Lakshman, initially, I knew he was going to be my surgeon for my breast augmentation, because he took his time to explain and answer all my questions and concerns about all the risks, size, consistency, lon-term care, etc. This is where many doctors and surgeons fail, they don't take the time to explain and ease you into this life changing transition. Dr. Lakshman performed my carpal tunnel surgery back in December of 2016. I put off surgery out of fear for 8+ years. So afraid of having a poor result on my right hand. But I was to the point that I could barely write and could not cut my food due to shooting nerve pain in my hand. My hand was numb 90% of the time. Doctor performed my surgery on a Friday and I was back at work by Tuesday. The worst part was dealing with the bandages for a couple weeks. The procedure called Arthroplasty was successful in relieving pain and after much research of alternate procedures, I felt this was less invasive and recovery was quicker. I have been to Dr. Lakshman on four different occasions for botox and each service gets better and better. He always takes pictures of the initial markings and refers to them before he even steps in the room on your next visit, then we do our consultation. His staff is so friendly and they are all quick to put me at ease. Move over Dr. 90210,Dr.Lakshman has the "Hands of God."His precision to my mini tummy tuck in June,2016 was so amazing I felt no pain. The only feeling I had was one of a bandaid being pulled off . I am very active and after two sets of twins ,and a son and daughter I barely looked pregnant anyway. Nonetheless O I am still in the healing stages but the tuck looks amazing.
