Pricey motel - rooms go for $100 a night and in addition they charge $50 room deposit in cash only. Rooms and furniture looks neglected with broken cupboard handles, stained headboards, stained bed covers, torn furniture, other people's hair in pillows. No face and hand towels - instead you only get two large towels which are stained. Also No coffee maker, No telephone, No alarm clock, No hair dryer, No clothing hangars, No laundry room, No fitness center and No swimming pool! Bedside lamps do NOT work. Only positives are the rooms come fitted with 42 inch flat screen TV, microwave, refrigerator, leather office chair and wooden desk. At price point of $100 a night this motel is rip-off!

Not accommodating to changes and then room looks like I should have been comped for even staying. Duck taped blinds?? Dresser falling apart?? Toilet handle broke?? Smoke detector covered up, which appears illegal to code?? See pictures of the condition. I recommend going to any one of the other motels across the street or next to this. The star is for the location being by downtown, but that's the only positive takeaways here.

We were welcomed to a clean guest house and even included disinfectant wipes. The fridge was stocked with water and the kitchen included all the tools you need to cook with such as pots, pans, salt, and oil. The home was quiet for the majority of our stay and the host respected our privacy. She even included some delicious bar of dark chocolate. Overall, our stay was amazing. The host herself was great. Very accommodating and went above and beyond after I mistakenly left my khakis there. She immediately had them shipped to my home. She was so nice and communicated with me the entire time. Probably the best host I've had the pleasure of dealing with. This is guesthouse is saved as one of my favorites. I for sure will return when I need another weekend away with my significant other. I can't say it enough, this home is great and I highly recommend it to anyone considering to stay in Pasadena.

I had total privacy during my trip - hosts/owners live next door but other than hearing some jazzy piano playing on one of my walks through the neighborhood I never ran into them which is exactly how I like it. In addition, our host representative contacted us on the first day (via email, no text or call thankfully) to make sure everything was OK. The property in Pasadena (The Madison) was super clean and had everything we needed. The king-sized bed was more comfortable than our own, and we slept like babies. Our kids enjoyed their own TV in their room, so they didn't sleep as much. ;) Our location was perfect in Pasadena for walking. We were there for an event at the Convention Center and walked there every day. Parking at the Madison was relatively convenient and, most importantly, super secure (gated, garaged). My sister and I stayed here for a long weekend -- the bed was comfy, the place was quiet (even with the other unit occupied), the neighborhood felt safe, and the free parking was a huge plus. It's a cozy and refreshing place to stay in after months of being cooped up for shelter-in-place. A lot of restaurants were open nearby for takeout and Erehwon was conveniently a few minutes away. Meeting Gary and Jaime was awesome, my sister and I had some pleasant & socially-distanced conversations with them. They were attentive, kind, and lovely hosts :-) COVID-19-related note: the kitchen / entrance area is shared with folks that are staying in the other unit. We felt safe enough to be in that room with masks on and to eat a meal, but know this if this is something you're concerned about. Absolutely stay here if you're considering it!

This review is for CORONADO STUDIO:…read more We had a family wedding to attend in Pasadena in May, and decided to stay in the Silver Lake area where the groom (my husband's brother) lives since that's where pre-wedding events would be taking place. So six family members ended up renting all three Sanborn properties for the weekend, each had very positive things to say. My husband and I stayed at the Coronado for four nights and absolutely loved it! For $85 a night, you can't beat having a full kitchen and FREE wifi! I think we managed to only buy two meals while were were on our trip. We spent about $100 on groceries at the Smart & Final near the apartment, and cooked most of our meals there, which saved us a ton of money! The host we talked to a couple of times, Jonathon, was very friendly and helped us with our luggage right off the bat. One huge plus was not having to clean the apartment before we checked out. I have rented a handful of houses before which we always had to "clean" ourselves if we didn't want to pay extra. The Coronado did not make us clean (even though we did as much as we could to not look like slobs upon leaving for common courtesy). I saw other people complain about thin walls, and hearing the other tenants in the building. That was never an issue while we were there. One of our favorite features was the rear entry to the private parking area. We didn't use the front door once while we were there. The only thing I would want to mention is that the driveway to the private parking is SO narrow, it would be unlikely that anything other than a small SUV or car could make it up the driveway. There's no way a Tahoe or anything large like that would be able to utilize the private parking. It worked fine for us in our Jeep Patriot, but we had to be very careful. The apartment isn't in the best neighborhood, but it seemed safe enough while we were there, and it's just minutes from Silver Lake and some great shopping on Sunset Blvd. There was a great view of the city at night from our balcony, and I really enjoyed looking out at night when the city was all lit up. All and all, we very much enjoyed our stay at the CORONADO and would highly recommend it, and stay there again. We also visited Tyler's Place where my in-laws were staying, and it was really nice. I probably wouldn't stay there however, as they had to share a kitchen with other guests they didn't know. That would work great if both sides of the house were being rented by people in your party though.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience here at Rubel Castle. Our host, guide,…read moreand local "Rubelligent" volunteer, Ms. Kathleen had all the intel about this historical property. She was so knowledgeable and helped set the stage for us to slip into a forgotten era and get a glimpse of how imagination met inventiveness with a DIY charm. ~ A LITTLE BACKSTORY FOR YOU ~ It's not pronounced Rubel as Barney from Flintstones. Rather, it's like Target is to Targét when we are trying to be fancy. So that's Rubel as in "Roo-bell." Unlike modern-day construction, Rubel Castle wasn't built overnight. It was made of collected recyclables and construction rubble that spanned many decades and took several friends and volunteers to build it. For Michael, however, the lifetime inspiration was first sparked at the age of 9. His love for canons was where it started and the rest is history you can hear about on the tour. But don't just show up like we did randomly one day. To book, visit RubelTours.org and make a reservation. ~ OUR TOUR EXPERIENCE ~ It's as if Michael Rubel, the creator and mastermind of this enchanted dominion had intended it to be--magical. Built in the castle period of wood and tin, every corner captured our interests, from antique cars to the 1890's Seth Thomas Tower Clock with a unique backstory (and only six in existence today). There were old vending machines, tools, trinkets, and machinery that time had long forgotten. Did I mention there was a drawbridge? Yes, and a dungeon too. I was just waiting for a dragon to come swoop down on us next. Walk in the footsteps of famous visitors like Alfred Hitchcock, Dwight Eisenhower, Jack Benny, and Bob Hope. It's a feast for the eyes no matter where you glance. I particularly enjoyed the bottle house that Michael built in 1968 as his "home" as a kid. That independent spirit was quite charming to see. ~ WATERCOLOR NATURESCAPE ~ We were fortunate to have our gracious host lead us on a tour and organize a special art crafting experience outdoors. It was absolutely lovely beneath the trees and between rusted vintage cars from the turn of the century. We each got a small canvas to paint our flowers in watercolor. (This particular experience takes place in the Spring and Fall, weather permitting.) We heard the squirrels rattling in the leaves and birds chirped and sang in the trees above. We discovered that peacocks apparently originated from this property, compliments of Michael Rubel. And did I mention that on the far side of the property, a custom garden was in full bloom? BOOK A TOUR Help support the Glendora Historical Society and keep this magnificently unique city-castle maintained. It's worth it.

A castle in Glendora? Yes, your eyes aren't deceiving you--Rubel Castle is real, it's magnificent,…read moreand it's gloriously eccentric. Thanks to the sheer persistence (and probably delightful stubbornness) of Michael Rubel, we now have this quirky, towering State Treasure sitting right in the middle of Glendora like a fairy tale that accidentally took a detour through a hardware store. This place is beautifully done, and part of its charm is that it's a full-on hodgepodge of relics, antiques, crystal trinkets, and "wait... what is that doing here?" moments tucked into every nook and cranny. You'll marvel, you'll laugh, you'll squint in confusion--honestly, it's everything you'd want in a castle built with love, imagination, and a dash of madness. And let's talk about the makeshift cemetery. Quirky? YES. Fun? Absolutely. Slightly spooky? Only if your imagination is over-caffeinated. But it fits the vibe perfectly--like the castle whispered, "You know what I'm missing? A tiny cemetery." The tours are fantastic, the guides are passionate, and the whole experience feels like you're stepping into a living scrapbook of California history and charming chaos. Overall: Amazing, amazing place. Book your tour. They only do tours every first Sunday of the month, so set your alarms, mark your calendars, tie a string around your finger--just don't miss it. Rubel Castle is truly a California State Treasure, and an absolute must-see for anyone who appreciates creativity, history, and a little eccentric sparkle.
