We were there for an event at the Convention Center and walked there every day. Parking at the Madison was relatively convenient and, most importantly, super secure (gated, garaged). There are some great views from the top and outside is nice and shady with big trees and a nice size porch. The owner and family were so welcoming as soon as we arrived. We enjoyed a spread of tea sandwiches, warm scones with clotted, cream and jam, fresh fruits, and an assortment of teas each of which were so delicious and perfectly prepared. My personal favorite was chai which is from a recipe from a family friend, my friends' favorites were the peach oolong, sencha with Matcha, and their rose black tea. We were able to try as many as we wanted! Service was amazing. Ellie was our host and server and she did such a great job. We had the whole space to ourself so it was so fun for an intimate tea party. Highly recommend!

This review is for CORONADO STUDIO:…read more We had a family wedding to attend in Pasadena in May, and decided to stay in the Silver Lake area where the groom (my husband's brother) lives since that's where pre-wedding events would be taking place. So six family members ended up renting all three Sanborn properties for the weekend, each had very positive things to say. My husband and I stayed at the Coronado for four nights and absolutely loved it! For $85 a night, you can't beat having a full kitchen and FREE wifi! I think we managed to only buy two meals while were were on our trip. We spent about $100 on groceries at the Smart & Final near the apartment, and cooked most of our meals there, which saved us a ton of money! The host we talked to a couple of times, Jonathon, was very friendly and helped us with our luggage right off the bat. One huge plus was not having to clean the apartment before we checked out. I have rented a handful of houses before which we always had to "clean" ourselves if we didn't want to pay extra. The Coronado did not make us clean (even though we did as much as we could to not look like slobs upon leaving for common courtesy). I saw other people complain about thin walls, and hearing the other tenants in the building. That was never an issue while we were there. One of our favorite features was the rear entry to the private parking area. We didn't use the front door once while we were there. The only thing I would want to mention is that the driveway to the private parking is SO narrow, it would be unlikely that anything other than a small SUV or car could make it up the driveway. There's no way a Tahoe or anything large like that would be able to utilize the private parking. It worked fine for us in our Jeep Patriot, but we had to be very careful. The apartment isn't in the best neighborhood, but it seemed safe enough while we were there, and it's just minutes from Silver Lake and some great shopping on Sunset Blvd. There was a great view of the city at night from our balcony, and I really enjoyed looking out at night when the city was all lit up. All and all, we very much enjoyed our stay at the CORONADO and would highly recommend it, and stay there again. We also visited Tyler's Place where my in-laws were staying, and it was really nice. I probably wouldn't stay there however, as they had to share a kitchen with other guests they didn't know. That would work great if both sides of the house were being rented by people in your party though.

Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing and put a real damper on what should have been an incredible night. Check-in begins at 3PM, and we arrived around 5PM after needing to get ready for our wedding reception. Our room still wasn't ready and we were told it was "awaiting inspection." There was no ETA for when it would be available, we were simply told that someone would call or text us when it was ready. This left us without a room when we needed it most. Luckily, my in-laws' room was ready, so we had to use their room to get ready. We also had to leave our luggage with the bell desk and specifically asked that it be delivered to our room once our room became available. After our wedding reception, we returned to the hotel around 11:00 PM. We had received no call, text, or email letting us know our room was ready. I went to the front desk myself and was told that it was, in fact, ready. At that point, however, they couldn't even confirm whether our luggage had been delivered. We went to our room and, unsurprisingly, our luggage was not there. It was eventually brought up to us, but by then we were standing around waiting for our belongings when we should have been getting ready to head to our after party. After an already long and emotional wedding day, this was the last thing we needed. Unfortunately, the problems didn't end there. We had several items from our wedding reception that the hotel agreed to hold for us, which we initially appreciated. When we checked out the following day, we were told that everything they were holding for us had been returned to us. We trusted that information and left. Luckily, we were still in the area at our next stop when we realized we were missing items. We had to turn around and drive back to the hotel to retrieve them. When we arrived, they had several additional items that had been forgotten and not given to us the first time. Mistakes happen, but the combination of everything that went wrong... from not having our room ready at check-in, to not communicating when it was ready, to our luggage not being delivered, to having to return to the hotel because our belongings weren't all returned, made for an incredibly frustrating experience. What makes this especially disappointing is that this was our wedding night. We chose The Langham because we wanted to celebrate such a meaningful occasion there and hopefully have a hotel that would hold special memories for us for years to come. Instead, when I think about our stay, I'll remember it as the hotel that added unnecessary stress to an already exhausting day and didn't make our night any easier. For a hotel of this caliber, I expected a much higher level of communication, attention to detail, and service. Unfortunately, I cannot say that our experience lived up to that expectation, and at this point, I don't see ourselves returning for future anniversaries.

Rather, it's like Target is to Targét when we are trying to be fancy. So that's Rubel as in "Roo-bell." Unlike modern-day construction, Rubel Castle wasn't built overnight. It was made of collected recyclables and construction rubble that spanned many decades and took several friends and volunteers to build it. For Michael, however, the lifetime inspiration was first sparked at the age of 9. His love for canons was where it started and the rest is history you can hear about on the tour. But don't just show up like we did randomly one day. There were old vending machines, tools, trinkets, and machinery that time had long forgotten. Did I mention there was a drawbridge? Yes, and a dungeon too. I was just waiting for a dragon to come swoop down on us next. Walk in the footsteps of famous visitors like Alfred Hitchcock, Dwight Eisenhower, Jack Benny, and Bob Hope. It's a feast for the eyes no matter where you glance. I particularly enjoyed the bottle house that Michael built in 1968 as his "home" as a kid. That independent spirit was quite charming to see. ~ WATERCOLOR NATURESCAPE ~ We were fortunate to have our gracious host lead us on a tour and organize a special art crafting experience outdoors. It was absolutely lovely beneath the trees and between rusted vintage cars from the turn of the century. We each got a small canvas to paint our flowers in watercolor. (This particular experience takes place in the Spring and Fall, weather permitting.) We heard the squirrels rattling in the leaves and birds chirped and sang in the trees above. We discovered that peacocks apparently originated from this property, compliments of Michael Rubel. And did I mention that on the far side of the property, a custom garden was in full bloom? I…read morewanted to preface this that I've stayed at many Townplace Suites/Springhill Suites/Residence Inn's and am used to the extended-stay properties, and I mention that because I don't expect the type of service and amenities as a fancier property. The services at this Residence Inn got the job done. - The units are in outdoor townhouse style units as opposed to in one big building. - The room was clean, nothing broken. I used the stove and kitchen supplies to cook to keep my food costs lower. - I didn't opt in for housekeeping but I could always get supplies (e.g. toilet paper) with a call to the front desk. - I brought my small dogs and they have a grass area dogwalk-type path in the back of the units which was convienient. I like the dog-friendliness of these extended stay hotels. - Their complementary breakfast with some hot items, yogurt, granola, cereal, toast/pastries wasn't out of this world but got the job done. This place is right in the heart of Downtown Arcadia and there are plenty of food and drink options within walking distance (like Lan Noodles). The location in Arcadia is easy to get around in the San Gabriel Valley as wel as access the major freeways. The main thing I wanted to mention is on my stay, we forgot an item in our room, a handheld theragun massage tool. I realized it after we already got back to the Bay Area and called the hotel, the GM Izzy said she's check, and 30 minutes later I got a call back that they found it. Izzy put me in touch with her Assistant Manager Mary Jean and said if we paid for a UPS Shipping Label and sent it to them, they would pack up our item so it could get to us. That kind of customer service is a little bit above and beyond so I appreciate they were so helpful because it's easy for things to get lost or thrown away by accident in a cleanup. I think we'll consider staying there again, it also depends on timing and cost.
