We loved the layout of…read morethe room, and we honestly think that the room we had was better than more expensive places we've been at. You could tell that the rooms and the building were recently painted. The water flow was great and quick to warm up. The shower didn't seem to have an option for cold water, though we may not just not know how to operate it. No places to put soap, shampoo, that much is true. Toiletries provided (packets of shampoo and conditioner, and face/body soap). Microwave worked great, refrigerator worked great. Wifi was great. AC was good too. The room came with an ironing board, iron, and hair dryer. We didn't need to use those, but they looked in good condition. We didn't use the TV either. We weren't able to use the coffee maker. For some reason, the part of the coffee maker where you put the actual coffee in wasn't there. Maybe they forgot to replace it after the last customer, but it wasn't a big deal for us. We were on the 2nd floor, and except for the city noises, we didn't hear anything else. Limited parking spaces. There is a $200 cash deposit required at check-in. The pleasant lady at the front was kind enough to only ask for a $20 deposit since we didn't know. We greatly appreciate that. Also, we received just one key card. This was fine for us, but I've travelled with people who may have problems with that. The only thing I think they should improve is the towels. They are old, and half of the towels in our room had stains. No smells on them though. There's a lot of good food and places to go in the area. Overall, we recommend this place and would definitely return. Our room exceeded our expectations, especially for the great price we were charged. We also really appreciate the lady who helped us. She was so pleasant.

In addition, our host representative contacted us on the first day (via email, no text or call thankfully) to make sure everything was OK. The property in Pasadena (The Madison) was super clean and had everything we needed. The king-sized bed was more comfortable than our own, and we slept like babies. Our kids enjoyed their own TV in their room, so they didn't sleep as much. ;) Our location was perfect in Pasadena for walking. We were there for an event at the Convention Center and walked there every day. Parking at the Madison was relatively convenient and, most importantly, super secure (gated, garaged). We didn't use their gym nor pool however we did enjoy their restaurant at The Corner Craft.. The food at this property was surprisingly well made. My sister and I stayed here for a long weekend -- the bed was comfy, the place was quiet (even with the other unit occupied), the neighborhood felt safe, and the free parking was a huge plus. It's a cozy and refreshing place to stay in after months of being cooped up for shelter-in-place. A lot of restaurants were open nearby for takeout and Erehwon was conveniently a few minutes away. Meeting Gary and Jaime was awesome, my sister and I had some pleasant & socially-distanced conversations with them. They were attentive, kind, and lovely hosts :-) COVID-19-related note: the kitchen / entrance area is shared with folks that are staying in the other unit. We felt safe enough to be in that room with masks on and to eat a meal, but know this if this is something you're concerned about. Absolutely stay here if you're considering it!

This review is for CORONADO STUDIO:…read more We had a family wedding to attend in Pasadena in May, and decided to stay in the Silver Lake area where the groom (my husband's brother) lives since that's where pre-wedding events would be taking place. So six family members ended up renting all three Sanborn properties for the weekend, each had very positive things to say. My husband and I stayed at the Coronado for four nights and absolutely loved it! For $85 a night, you can't beat having a full kitchen and FREE wifi! I think we managed to only buy two meals while were were on our trip. We spent about $100 on groceries at the Smart & Final near the apartment, and cooked most of our meals there, which saved us a ton of money! The host we talked to a couple of times, Jonathon, was very friendly and helped us with our luggage right off the bat. One huge plus was not having to clean the apartment before we checked out. I have rented a handful of houses before which we always had to "clean" ourselves if we didn't want to pay extra. The Coronado did not make us clean (even though we did as much as we could to not look like slobs upon leaving for common courtesy). I saw other people complain about thin walls, and hearing the other tenants in the building. That was never an issue while we were there. One of our favorite features was the rear entry to the private parking area. We didn't use the front door once while we were there. The only thing I would want to mention is that the driveway to the private parking is SO narrow, it would be unlikely that anything other than a small SUV or car could make it up the driveway. There's no way a Tahoe or anything large like that would be able to utilize the private parking. It worked fine for us in our Jeep Patriot, but we had to be very careful. The apartment isn't in the best neighborhood, but it seemed safe enough while we were there, and it's just minutes from Silver Lake and some great shopping on Sunset Blvd. There was a great view of the city at night from our balcony, and I really enjoyed looking out at night when the city was all lit up. All and all, we very much enjoyed our stay at the CORONADO and would highly recommend it, and stay there again. We also visited Tyler's Place where my in-laws were staying, and it was really nice. I probably wouldn't stay there however, as they had to share a kitchen with other guests they didn't know. That would work great if both sides of the house were being rented by people in your party though.

I pre-paid the room, which saved me a bit of money. The hotel was able to accommodate my need for a small fridge and a microwave (for Bella's food). Everything at the hotel is lovely. Pasadena is a true gem. I loved walking in the Oak Knoll neighborhood and enjoying the wonderful gardens on the Langham property. Talking with many passersby. Taking deep breaths... finally feeling like I could and DID relax. I visited the Tap Room and the Terrace twice because we enjoyed our experience so much. Something that is unique to this hotel -- is the overwhelming friendly disposition of every staff member we encountered. From Nathan (the guy that works on the ponds and pools), to Max (at the Terrace), to Abby & Francis (at the Tap Room)... to the front staff (forgot his name) that helped me (even locating me in the Tap Room when they needed me)... Honestly, I think all of the staff truly likes this place, and THIS shows with how they treat their guests. No ask is too much and even though I didn't need anything crazy... just making it reasonable to travel with a senior dog that gets homemade meatballs, it was really a nice feeling. I would do anything for my pup, but this trip was really for me. I think Bella was sad to leave... and that's always a good sign; if you've stayed too long you're listless and lethargic (even), but we left still smiling and beaming from our experience. I needed it. And, I got exactly what I wanted. Thanks a million, to the Langham! My one suggestion/critique (albeit small) -- is they need to make the amenity fees more clear upon booking the room. I thought all of that was taken care of (and I was surprised by the daily charges).

We've now given…read morethis hotel multiple chances over several years and every single experience has been disappointing. The first time was Valentine's Day shortly after I gave birth to our third child. My husband took me to The Terrace for a simple lunch because we live walking distance and thought it would be an easy, relaxing outing. Instead, we got terrible service and shockingly bad food for a supposedly luxury hotel. Completely forgettable experience. Then we tried the Teddy Bear Tea a few years later with our kids. Again, awful. The food and tea were both mediocre at best, and the setup felt chaotic and lazy compared to a proper afternoon tea service. Instead of the elegant presentation you'd expect, everyone was handed messy pre-plated trays dumped onto the table, and getting tea refills felt nearly impossible because staff were nowhere to be found. Last spring we decided to give the property another shot through a ResortPass cabana day. While the pool itself was peaceful, service was practically nonexistent. We spent more time trying to flag someone down for food and drinks than actually relaxing. For the prices they charge, pool service should not feel like a scavenger hunt. Most recently, I booked a one-night staycation to spend some one-on-one time with my oldest daughter. Same exact issues all over again. The pool was packed and there appeared to be ONE server working the entire area. The room itself felt extremely dated, and the bathroom fixtures were rusty and not particularly clean. My daughter actually told me the hotel "felt haunted," which honestly summed up the entire atmosphere perfectly. What's especially frustrating is how heavily they market themselves as family-friendly with all these supposed kid amenities and "special touches." They advertise things like a kids passport/scavenger hunt experience, so my husband specifically noted it in the reservation ahead of time and even called afterward to confirm. Despite all of that, nobody seemed to know what we were talking about and nothing was prepared. It perfectly captures the overall experience at this hotel: lots of luxury branding and promises, but completely disorganized execution once you actually arrive. At this point, it feels like this hotel survives entirely on its reputation and location, not on actual hospitality or quality. Beautiful grounds can only carry a property so far. For the price point, the service, food, upkeep, and overall experience are consistently unacceptable.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience here at Rubel Castle. Our host, guide,…read moreand local "Rubelligent" volunteer, Ms. Kathleen had all the intel about this historical property. She was so knowledgeable and helped set the stage for us to slip into a forgotten era and get a glimpse of how imagination met inventiveness with a DIY charm. ~ A LITTLE BACKSTORY FOR YOU ~ It's not pronounced Rubel as Barney from Flintstones. Rather, it's like Target is to Targét when we are trying to be fancy. So that's Rubel as in "Roo-bell." Unlike modern-day construction, Rubel Castle wasn't built overnight. It was made of collected recyclables and construction rubble that spanned many decades and took several friends and volunteers to build it. For Michael, however, the lifetime inspiration was first sparked at the age of 9. His love for canons was where it started and the rest is history you can hear about on the tour. But don't just show up like we did randomly one day. To book, visit RubelTours.org and make a reservation. ~ OUR TOUR EXPERIENCE ~ It's as if Michael Rubel, the creator and mastermind of this enchanted dominion had intended it to be--magical. Built in the castle period of wood and tin, every corner captured our interests, from antique cars to the 1890's Seth Thomas Tower Clock with a unique backstory (and only six in existence today). There were old vending machines, tools, trinkets, and machinery that time had long forgotten. Did I mention there was a drawbridge? Yes, and a dungeon too. I was just waiting for a dragon to come swoop down on us next. Walk in the footsteps of famous visitors like Alfred Hitchcock, Dwight Eisenhower, Jack Benny, and Bob Hope. It's a feast for the eyes no matter where you glance. I particularly enjoyed the bottle house that Michael built in 1968 as his "home" as a kid. That independent spirit was quite charming to see. ~ WATERCOLOR NATURESCAPE ~ We were fortunate to have our gracious host lead us on a tour and organize a special art crafting experience outdoors. It was absolutely lovely beneath the trees and between rusted vintage cars from the turn of the century. We each got a small canvas to paint our flowers in watercolor. (This particular experience takes place in the Spring and Fall, weather permitting.) We heard the squirrels rattling in the leaves and birds chirped and sang in the trees above. We discovered that peacocks apparently originated from this property, compliments of Michael Rubel. And did I mention that on the far side of the property, a custom garden was in full bloom? Thanks to the sheer persistence (and probably delightful stubbornness) of Michael Rubel, we now have this quirky, towering State Treasure sitting right in the middle of Glendora like a fairy tale that accidentally took a detour through a hardware store. This place is beautifully done, and part of its charm is that it's a full-on hodgepodge of relics, antiques, crystal trinkets, and "wait... what is that doing here?" moments tucked into every nook and cranny. You'll marvel, you'll laugh, you'll squint in confusion--honestly, it's everything you'd want in a castle built with love, imagination, and a dash of madness. And let's talk about the makeshift cemetery. Quirky? YES. Fun? Absolutely. Slightly spooky? Only if your imagination is over-caffeinated. But it fits the vibe perfectly--like the castle whispered, "You know what I'm missing? A tiny cemetery." The tours are fantastic, the guides are passionate, and the whole experience feels like you're stepping into a living scrapbook of California history and charming chaos. Overall: Amazing, amazing place. Book your tour. They only do tours every first Sunday of the month, so set your alarms, mark your calendars, tie a string around your finger--just don't miss it. Rubel Castle is truly a California State Treasure, and an absolute must-see for anyone who appreciates creativity, history, and a little eccentric sparkle.
