I feel like I have a lot to say about this company, but I will try to keep it short. They didn't honor their "Receive 10% OFF Your Next Purchase Just for Mentioning Our Web Site." I asked them twice but they said the items we rented were too expensive to give a discount on. It wasn't worth arguing about since my wedding materials were at stake, but as you can imagine it royally angered me and left me feeling taken advantage of. Next on the list: I asked them a total of 6 times (2 phone calls, 1 visit, and 3 emails) to send me an order invoice. I only got it nearly 2 months after I originally rented with them. They cited a problem with their "scanner" every time- although I eventually got a PDF. I was charged a mysterious "D.W./T" fee of around $70 on top of delivery charges. I asked what it was and was told it was "tax". And just so we are clear on taxing services: "If the true object of the contract is the service per se, the transaction is not subject to tax even though some tangible personal property is transferred. For example, a firm which performs business advisory, record keeping, payroll and tax services for small businesses and furnishes forms, binders, and other property to its clients as an incident to the rendition of its services is the consumer and not the retailer of such tangible personal property. Probably the only reason I gave this business two stars instead of one is that the delivery and pick-up went seamless and without hindrance. My advice to this company is that good-faith and honest business will do better for profits in the long run than dishonesty and nickle-and-dimeing. I really hope they get their act together. This is the second time I rented from them, shame on me to give them another shot because we try to support local businesses. I returned items and they charged me for a table clothes I never received, I left a message stating that when I was setting up the party. I tried to explain to the receiving dept girl who did not speak English and then called to explain to the owner. She said I was racist! Then I just rented for our christmas party, we over estimated the chairs called to change understanding I would not get refund for the change, I was shorted two chairs on the lowered qty of chairs, I called them immediately left voicemail so I wouldn't get charged for the shorted chairs. Also ordered two additional tables that we didn't receive and had to improvise at a moments notice. Also two of the tables of the (4) didn't lock, they collapsed when leaned on. Again had to fix them, used tools to make them lock. Also your hours are ridiculous and don't match the site so no one is available when there is a discrepancy. Probably shorter hours because their customer service is so bad the business is suffering! It appears all is designed to charge customers for what they don't receive or received by the customer damaged. Then the fight is on. And you're called a Racist because someone doesn't speak English and can't understand the problem... This place is a disaster, it just made me waste valuable time. I called GiGi on Wed.morning the day before Thanksgiving she said that she was busy and they would be closed on Thursday. Friday would also be busy, but I could come in on Monday. On the phone we agreed on the price of the canopy which included set up . I went on Monday and her price incresed almost dubbled. I explained to her that I saw her advertsement with prices and she said that she would not be able to honor that price. I am sure that she needs money , but I am not her fool. We had a very small wedding, rented some table and linens. When I was setting up I was shocked at how bad the condition of the high stools and chairs were in. When placing the linens on the tables noticed there were burn marks on one of them. I thought bummer for me but what was I gonna do. Much to my surprise when we returned the items the owner GiGi blamed the burned linen on us. Not one person smoked at our party nor did I have candles on the tables. I had 2 extremely disappointing experiences with Party Makers and would not use them again. The first was about a year ago when I rented tables, chairs, linens etc for a party. When I got the items to my house I noticed the linens were so dirty and torn they were unusable, the chairs were supposed to be white and had black scuff marks all over, and everything was in bad shape. Sadly I didn't open everything up until they were closed so I had to make it work. I returned the items and sent them a message to let them know about the condition on the items but heard NO RESPONSE. I figured it was a fluke thing so went to give them a second chance a week ago for another party. I sent another message and reminded them of the mishap and requested clean usable items this time around. THEY NEVER RESPONDED. Apparently this is a business that is unwilling to make things right or own up to mistakes. I didnt ask for a discount or any accommodations, only reminded them of my last bad experience and asked them to ensure to send clean usable items. Apparently that was too much to ask? Sadly, I had to end my 10+ years relationship with SC Rentals AKA Party Makers. I returned table clothes with small wax drippings on them and she said, "I am going to charge you for new ones." The quality of the items I rented were horrible . I rented a canopy tent, tables and chairs for a nice back yard dinner party. The tent was in the worst shape and so filthy, the poles were rusted, just plain ugly! I was so thankful it was dark so you didn't have to see it. I felt like we were sitting in a dirty camping tent. The chairs were dirty and the tables were so old the metal edges were coming off and sticking out and in fact very dangerous. But the tablecloths were in great shape. read more

I had a horrible experience with this company. When I came to pick up my order, part of it was wrong an the girl blamed it on me. I wanted 2 matching glass beverage dispensers, but she ordered me 2 cheap plastic ones. I asked for a refund, but they only wanted to give me store credit. Eventually, I got them to give me a refund. When I got home, I realized the chairs did not match, and they were old/falling apart. Before I left, I asked if I could return everything on Sunday, and was told, anytime after 8 was fine. When I came in on Sunday, they were closed. I called on Monday to clear up the situation and talked to the rudest lady. My house is less then a mile away and they refused to pick up the rentals without charging me. I was again blamed for the situation and yelled at in the phone. DON'T USE THIS PLACE TO RENT EQUIPMENT! They are routinely LATE and RUDE TO BOOT! My child's private school retained them to provide chairs, tables and a stage for its recent festival. They showed up an hour late. There were a couple hundred parent volunteers standing around the school field -- just waiting for Party Maker's truck to arrive so we could get the tables & chairs set up and go back to our real jobs. We made numerous calls to them, inquiring when their truck would arrive. At 11:20 a.m. -- they were supposed to have delivered by ten a.m. and in no event later than 11:00 a.m. -- they finally told us their truck was leaving Newport Beach and we were their next stop. NOT TRUE. The school is a ten minute drive from Newport -- and they showed up over 40 minutes later. Then, we all helped their guys unload the truck: 30 and 40 year old parents in business clothes hopping inside their grungy truck helping their 2 slow moving teenage delivery guys do THEIR JOB. Then they unloaded TOO many chairs and tables and we had to bypass their "guys" and re-count for them and re-load their truck. Then, at the end of this fiasco, our school was four tables short -- and now that the tables had been unloaded, re-loaded and unloaded again and spread out over a football field - mixed in with pre-existing tables from the school - it was impossible to tell if this was due to the school's under-ordering or Party Makers shorting the load. Given that we had been doing Party Maker's jobs of unloading the truck for them, we were all well aware that they had a half truck of tables left. I asked one of the employee's if he could leave four more tables. He had to call the main office, and passed the cell phone to me. I was disconnected twice by Party Makers while on their employee's cell phone. Ultimately, I spoke to a woman named Gigi, and introduced myself. I explained that Party Maker's truck had been an hour late, and that for some undetermined reason, we were four tables short, and I was hoping that - in an extension of goodwill, given the earlier delivery flap - Party Makers would consider accommodating our request to leave an extra four tables. She said she'd love to...but would not do so. I said that was unfortunate, and asked again - given our school's accommodation of Party Maker's horribly delayed schedule, and further, the fact that our parent-volunteers had helped HER COMPANY get their delivery guys BACK ON TRACK by UNLOADING & RE-LOADING THEIR TRUCK FOR THEM - if there was not some accommodation they could make at their end. She said no - that it would, and I quote: "inconvenience later deliveries and make the driver 30-60 minutes late." Not to put too fine a point on it: at no point during the conversation did she ever apologize for the one hour delay to our school... or the fact that we had been forced to do her employees work for her. Yet worse: at no point did it dawn on this woman the irony of the fact that she was unwilling to delay her 2-3 later deliveries when she had delayed over 100 of our school's parents - doctors, lawyers, accountants -- by well over an hour that day while we had been standing around a football field waiting on her HORRIBLY DELAYED TRUCK, and that further - courtesy of all the parent volunteers doing the work of her two men and unloading her truck for her, she had been saved 30-60 minutes of payroll and her schedule was now back on track. Perhaps most appalling: we were obviously her biggest customer out of that load - as well more than half the truck we unloaded onto our field. And while she was unwilling to inconvenience her smallest customers of the day - the 2-3 families scheduled for later on the route that day - she had no such similar compunction about inconveniencing the 100+ families that comprised her largest profit margin of the day: my daughter's school and its parent volunteers. Nor the good grace to apologize for the delay once apprised of it, nor the common sense to take the olive branch that was being extended and smooth over her company's delivery failures by leaving the four tables I requested. When I reiterated that it was unfortunate that they could not make some accommodation for the four tables in light of the foregoing, Gigi rudely interrupted and asked: "Did you under-order, or did we short you?" When I explained I did not know & that the four missing tables could have been a result of either, she called me "a liar," said I was "being dishonest," said that she was sure that "we were all very important people who went to a lotta grad school and stuff, but she didn't like what we were asking of her," and slammed down the phone. I am both a small business owner & an attorney. From both perspectives, Party Maker's callous disregard for their contractual obligations and for their customer - a rather large, repeat customer - is appalling. We rented two outdoor heaters and they arrived in three separate pieces and the quality was horrible, they looked like they had been banged up for years. We had to assemble them, which was different than the year before. New owners? Not sure. As with any event, I had enough on my plate and the last thing I needed was to assemble heaters. I called and they said that's how they are doing it now because people change their minds on where they want them etc...They are not friendly on the phone once they have a problem. They are so rude. Sorry to say this but this is one of the WORST companies I have ever had to deal with. We have used them several times and tried to give them the benefit of the doubt when things went wrong but the past two times we have used them they have really screwed us over. Our first bad experience is with renting a coffee maker. One of THEIR delivery guys broke something which was witnessed by us, the customer. When we informed the company they said basically it was our fault because the delivery guy said he didn't do it. They took the delivery guys words over ours and were extremely rude about it. So what did they do? Charged us. When we asked them if they could replace it with a working one, they said no. We offered to even pick one up and they said no. So we spent 2 ours cleaning up the broken glass and trying to fix it in order to be used for our party. Next time we use them the delivery guy informs us that they didn't have everything we ordered and the remainder would be delivered the next day. We couldn't be home during the delivery time so we left our yard gate open for the items to be delivered. We get home from our event to find that the items were never delivered. We immediately call the company and without even an apology we are told there is NOTHING they can do for us. Apparently the delivery men and the office crew don't communicate at all because the woman in the office said she had no idea what I was talking about. She had to put me on hold several times to try and figure out the situation. Which she didn't. She continues by saying that we should have called earlier. Sorry but it's not on us to make sure you do your job. After several complaints about how upset we were they said they could refund part of it. Which didn't help us in any way because we couldn't use the rest of the items we rented without them. The woman on the phone was beyond rude and completely unprofessional. I sent them an email explaining how upset we were and how terrible the experience was only to be ignored. Then on Monday the items were never picked up. So we must call them to figure out why they weren't picked up. Well they don't know. Again we are doing their job and I must waste another day sitting around to make sure they get their items. Finally the delivery men show up and pack up the items. Only to then inquire about the rest of the items. You mean the ones your company never delivered? Yeah those. Well they are in whatever disorganized warehouse you left them at. Still waiting on a response and our refund. With the help of a friend, I was able to pull the cable out of the pipe and replace the Bolt with something similar from my toolbox. Even though I repeatedly asked the delivery guy if the wobbly bent legs and wonky doors were ok??? It has been one of the most infuriating experiences. During this whole process, countless phone calls etc. I still can not believe how rude these people were, before there even was a problem!!!!....and now it has happened, I have heard from neighbors and friends that they have all had similar experiences, when I tried to sort this out once and for all today I got told they couldn't be BOTHERED to deal with me, they were way to busy!!!! and even though I broke the machine they would refund the excess so I would go away!!! Though the people were friendly in the beginning, after they had my credit card # & commitment, I found they did not have the equipment promised available, they changed my order without okaying it with me first, they delivered 6 hours before the time I had been told, did not follow through with commitments, charged additional fees to my credit card without my approval. Our experience with this company was horrible. When they arrived to set up, the manager claimed very rudely that we hadn't told her the party was in a park (we had), and that they would need another $135 to set up there. With no options, we agreed....only to wait longer for them to start while they waited for an extra man. After partially setting up, one man left to replace the top to a heater (NOT important), so the others stopped setting up until he returned about 20 minutes later...leaving us barely enough time to get everything decorated and ready before the party. This was all forgivable, and then... Since they would charge $500 extra to take down that night (Sat.), we agreed they would pick up Monday. We then had to take everything down and secure it, making their pickup very easy. They didn't show up within the 2 hour slot they gave us on Monday. After three calls we were told they had a flat tire and would pick up the following day, a major inconvenience for us....again, "o.k." We then noticed that the 5 heaters (which didn't work well in the first place) were missing. We assumed they were stolen, and reported it to the company. The manager accused us of being stupid for leaving them out (we accepted this), and said we could give her $1200 cash or $1450 on a credit card to pay for them. She told us the difference was so she wouldn't have to pay tax to buy new ones - illegal, of course. When we tried to negotiate a better time for the pickup, we were told we would be charged $1500 if we didn't facilitate the pickup, as they needed everything for that night (really? on a Tuesday?)! After botched pickup times and places the following day (3 days after the party), we were told by some security guards that the company had picked up the heaters 2 days prior. The rental company insisted they knew nothing about this. A day later they acknowledged the heaters had been picked up separately without our knowledge. During this whole process the manager was extremely rude, angry, accusatory, rigid and unreasonable. We tried very hard to talk to her in a professional way, but found it impossible. We, of course, would not consider using them again!! read more

I had ordered and paid for tables and linens for my husband's memorial service. The girl that took my order, got the date wrong. I had to call another party supply company the evening prior, and thank God, they went out of their way, and delivered what I needed early the next morning, which was a Sunday. I asked to speak to the owner of the Party Makers, and I was told by Gigi and another girl that they didn't know who the owner was. Really? I was also told by Gigi that I would get a phone call once my refund was processed. I never got that phone call. I had to call two more times to make sure that I wasn't forgotten about. STAINED LINENS BEFORE WE EVEN USED THEM!! This is my first review I have written and I felt I had to do so. We ordered linens from them for our wedding reception and were told by the staff and family members that there were yellow stains on the linens as they were setting up for the reception. By then, it was too late to do anything about it. In addition, we ordered all white and some of them were a cream color. When we returned the linens the next day and brought this to their attention. They didn't acknowledge the different colors and dismissed any issue we had with the stains. We were not looking for any reduction in price, we just wanted them to know how bad the linens were after they had been cleaned. We do not recommend Party Makers for any event, much less for a wedding reception. read more

They arrived 3 hours early for my SURPRISE PARTY after they specifically said they would be there between 11-12. They got there at 9am. The person the surprise was for answered the door. My hard work of keeping it a surprise and out of 60 guest keeping it quiet, the delivery guys ruined it!!! When I asked the driver he was rude and said he didnt know they couldn't be early. I called the office and she was rude and said she'd call me back, which she never did. I called again Monday and she acted like she didn't know who I was. When I reminded her, after leaving me on hold for a while (Prob hoping I'd just hang up) she said they can't guarantee a delivery time and they didnt charge me to deliver at a specific time so it was not their fault. I had never been informed of any of this prior. When I asked why they told me then a specific time, she couldn't answer my question. Basially there was nothing they could do about it and it wasn't their fault. However the day I ordered them, I went into the showroom and she said, no problem, I'll put on the order 11-12 specifically so your surprised will not ruined. Well, too bad they couldn't keep their word! The tables had chipping wood and looked horrible, unlike the ones in the showroom, so last minute I was scambling trying to find table clothes to cover them so my guests would not end up with cuts and splinters. Two days before my wedding they called to tell me they would not have the chairs I ordered and paid for in full to rent for our ceremony. Even though I began the planning process with them for my rentals well in advance I feel that they undermined my hard work as I coordinated my own wedding (with a 7 month old in tow!) with their lack of organization. On several occasions the MANAGER made me feel like I was being an inconvenience to her because they were understaffed. We had to pick up, set up, store, and rerun everything ourselves because they charge an arm and a leg to do so on a Sunday when they are closed and that's the day of the week we had our wedding. If I could I would give them '0" stars!!! I rented tents and a heater from them. In the beginning stages Ana was very friendly and helpful. The day of arrival they were over 2 hours past their window of delivery time given to me and still had 2 more stops to make. So needless to say they were rushing. While setting up the tents he dropped one of the poles on my granite BBQ counter top and broke several tiles. My father was there and witnessed it. When I called the office the following business day and spoke to Gigi, the manager, who by the way is extremely rude, basically was told she did not believe me and she would have to talk to her worker first to hear what he had to say. Of course he lied and denied doing it. I was then told that since he denies it happening that I must have broken them myself! DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE! Complete ripoff. My wife spoke to Anna, had all the details for the chair rentals for our wedding. She quoted the price and said she was "giving us a deal" they called me 45 minutes before our wedding asking where to drop off the chairs. Told them they were to set them up according to our contract. He said that was additional fee. Then when I arrived he just was setting the chairs up and he couldn't even get a straight line for the aisle for us to walk down. WE ended up setting the chairs up ourselves just minutes before our wedding. They charged my CC not only for the rental but an additional $50 for set up and take down. Gigi said she spoke to my wife and said that set up and take down was additional. My wife never spoke to Gigi. She is a lier!! She charged my CC because the check we mailed hadn't arrived the day before our wedding, I authorized her to charge it with the understanding that when the check arrives she would credit it back. Instead of refunding my account she charged it again. I had to wait 6 days to finally get my money back. Now 2 weeks later she charged my account again. I am seriously debating on filling charges for charging my cc without my authorization. Gigi is a rude person and not a trustworthy person. I would never recommend this place for anything to anybody.
