I found this company online while searching for a balloon arch/ garland. First off, the website needs some serious work. When I went to place an order for a 3-4 foot garland with 3 balloon colors, the drop down option was for only a 10 foot garland and not all the colors shown in the photos were listed. This wasn't a big deal as I just called and the owner instructed me to write out what I wanted in the text box. Next, on the day of pick up, I went to the address listed in the email which was in North Raleigh. I showed up at the North Raleigh "location" and called asking for help finding the address. She laughed and said she moved shops to North Hills, which she failed to mention when I had called 30 minutes prior to let her know I was on my way. Whatever, not the biggest deal in the world although it was highly inconvenient to be driving all over town in the pouring rain. I picked up my balloon garland at the shop and this was a pretty seamless process; however, because of the terrible weather I didn't get a chance to really look at the garland until I got home. I had asked for white, light pink, and hot pink balloons. As you can see in the photos, there's all different shades of pink, some glossy and some matte. There were only 2 hot pink balloons, which were weirdly placed on one end. Some of the balloons were already deflating and there was ribbon popping out in all different places. My MIL & SIL, who were in charge of hanging the garland and have lots of experience with this, couldn't figure out how to hang it and instead propped it on the floor. Ultimately, this garland was not worth anything close to $125 and looked nothing like the photos on the website, which I'm now realizing are just stock photos.

Deco Raleigh is located in Downtown Raleigh on Salisbury Street. The iconic neon sign caught my…read moreattention and drew me in after a walking tour of Raleigh. The store opened back in 2012 and moved to its current larger spot in 2018. At the time, it was the only place downtown to buy a card and a gift. The building was once the NC State Bar's headquarters. Parking is on the street or at a nearby garage, so it can be somewhat challenging. Did you know that Pam Blondin, the owner, campaigned and built Raleigh's first parklet, and she commissioned the city's first sidewalk mural? She is a true pioneer of downtown's public culture. Deco Raleigh is an upscale gift shop with curated gifts. I thought the store was a good size and bigger than it appeared from the street. But the aisles were a little narrow in places. The store carries work from over 100 North Carolinian artisans. Inside, there is pottery, artwork, jewelry, textiles, apparel, home decor, puzzles, books, cards, and other unique finds. The store carries the "Raleigh" and "North Carolina" themed items. You'll also find some gourmet food items. The custom wrapping station makes things so convenient. It is the ideal place to browse and find a thoughtful gift for someone, or just buy something for yourself. The store design is warm, welcoming, and a total visual treat to explore. I'll definitely be back!

The staff didn't speak or ask to help while we were there. I guess it's good we didn't need them for anything, huh. The ones near the registers were engulfed in their own conversations & cellphones. And when I wanted to use the cashier as she was just standing there at a register, and she said, "Self-checkout is open". I asked her if she could ring me up, and once again, "self-checkout is open". I asked assisting customers was part of her job description, and her response, "everybody is entitled to their opinion." I asked her if she gets an employee discount for working here. to which she replied, "It's a small one." So I asked, if her job duties include working the register, and she replied, "everybody is entitled to their opinion." And I asked her, if her duties include working the register to which she gets paid, and a discount, why should I do it for free, to which she once again replied, "everybody is entitled to their opinion". If Five Below raised all the prices on items, so it is now $25 below, and I am paying more, why should I also be a FREE employee while in the store. Only after I told the employee that I would just drop everything right there and walk out did she agree to ring up the items. What is wrong with the employees were they feel too entitled to do their job? Why do stores keep employees that feel as if they are too entitled to do their job when there are so many other people willing to work there. #525
