I'm not a huge history buff but my family enjoys visiting historic places when we can. We were on a…read moretrip visiting family near Fond Du Lac from NC (I grew up in Milwaukee). We watch the show "American Pickers" and this house was on an episode so we decided to check out it out. It's a strong piece of early American History and has ties to WI becoming a state, interactive with Native Americans, the Civil War, and the Underground Railroad. Unfortunately the owners are trying to combine what could be a significant historical tourist attraction with their passion for costumes. Individually those would do very well to stand on their own. Together they just don't mix. But let's look past the interesting costumes and dolls that are in every room of the house and focus on the historical part of it. The house has unusual architecture that was ahead of it's time. It does have hidden passages that I wish the tour would talk to more. There's a collection of arrow heads, swords and bayonets, and a few rifles. We were yearning for more information about trading with early Native Americans and it's place in the history of Fond Du Lac. But only general references were given. Also wanted to hear about more about the stories of ghosts sitings that are supposedly tied to the house. While walking up the spiral stair case, my wife did feel someone (something?) pulling on her purse and holding her back to the point she almost feel backwards. My daughter and I were behind her and neither us of touched her or saw her purse get snagged on anything. Paranormal activity? Possibly! Unfortunately, we were told that if we wanted to hear those stories, we'd have to come back for Halloween. Did you read above where we live in NC? Finally, the $15 per person fee is inappropriate for the combination of history and costumes. Had the house been more authentic to the time and more ties to history, then $15 or even $20 would be appropriate. $10 seems more appropriate. You can visit the historic Wade House 20 miles away and get a great experience for $11. The place is apparently for sale so perhaps new ownership will see the potential.

I toured Octagon House couple hours in fact had a great time learned a lot of history good for all…read moreages I would say I give it a 5 star rating.
