Multiple generations muddy that bloodline but it doesn't mean the dogs aren't great pets. Just very expensive pets. The breeder is quick to reply and obviously loves all the dogs in her care. I also see evidence that hip, elbow and heart tests are done on all dogs they own. And, if for whatever reason you are not happy with the dog, or can't care for it, she will take it back. I also love that she doesn't believe in shipping puppies. Travel arrangements for delivery are taken seriously with the dog's well being in mind. I was disappointed that the dogs are not shown or worked. I don't believe in breeding pets. Generally a breed-specific breeder is interested in maintaining the integrity and standards of their specific breed of choice and that doesn't seem the case with Rock River, though they partake in water rescue style exercises for fun. I'm not saying to avoid this breeder, but if you are looking for a Newfoundland you probably have an interest drafting or water rescue. If that is the case, you will need to look elsewhere to a breeder who specializes in working their dogs, and will be able to recognize a puppy with the proper drive and determination early on. 12/18 Replying to the comment- pulling trees and "water work" are not necessarily evidence of participating in drafting course tests or water dog trials/tests. I was specifically looking for a dog to do water rescue. I look for not just breeders who show, but who train according to the standard in order to correctly pick the dogs whose genes and abilities should be passed on. My questions were valid, and I received answers that I felt didn't fit my expectations. I've never met a breeder yet who doesn't love their dogs like family. But a working breed has to fit a certain model.
