    Chesapeake Jubilee

My family and I went to the Chesapeake Jubilee for the first time last weekend and we had an…read moreenjoyable time. Since I hadn't been to a carnival in a while, I was surprised to see that the tickets were stored digitally on a card that they give to you. I actually loved the convenience of not having tickets all over the place lol. We rode about two rides which were a lot of fun. The ride operator simply scanned the card for our tickets and that was it! Gone are the days of having to count out the tickets for the rides lol. We then decided to grab something to eat. I remember carnival food being delicious and worth every penny but we ordered a cheese burger, cheesesteak, sausage and peppers and fries and the burger was extremely small, the cheesesteak was finished in 3 bites and the sausage was the size of a hot dog. The food was disappointing for how much we paid. The funnel cake and fried Oreos were great though. The best part of the carnival was definitely the delicious Turkey leg that we all enjoyed. Since my daughter isn't a big fan of fireworks, we decided to leave before they started but overall, it was a fun family outing. Side note: To avoid paying the $10 parking fee, we parked at a nearby school but we walked close to a mile to get to the carnival so definitely where comfortable shoes if you plan on taking that route next year. :)

Hickory Ridge Farm - Delicious strawberries for the pickin'!

I've lived in VB for almost 11 years, and have NEVER gone strawberry picking! Crazy, I know. I knew…read morethis season I had to go, so I grabbed my friend and her two kids and we decided to give Hickory Ridge Farm a try! What a gem. They have buckets for you to grab, or you can bring your own. You get charged per pound that you pick and pay when you're done! They had so many strawberries ready to pick, I had so much fun doing this with my friends kids! I was already planning on making a homemade strawberry shortcake when I got home. They have a cute little coffee truck which I obviously had to stop by. If you have a strawberry latte during strawberry season - you can count on me to grab one! It was so good, and not too sweet or tart from the strawberry! I also had to grab their strawberry donuts from the farm stand. Which, needless to say ... they did not make it home with me. We scarfed those down! Incredible. I loved the "petting zoo" area. You can feed the goats, sit in the rabbit pen and give them some pets, and play with the piglets! Such a cute add on to this experience; and the petting zoo was no charge! They also have a ton of toys and bounce houses for the kiddos. If you're looking for a fun strawberry picking experience, give them a try!

They do provide wagons so you don't have to carry around your pumpkins. It is all outside so dress accordingly. We love the fact that everything is local and locally owned. Also free to enter. Plenty of parking. We will definitely go back and highly recommend.

The Little Gym of Chesapeake - Grade School classes

You know the saying, 'monkey see monkey do'? Well, our younger one wanted to do it too. So, we checked what was available for him since he is a bit younger. So because of age, they are in separate classes and can't do it together. No problem there as we figured it could help with their independence, and we even found classes that worked out better for them in the end. We like that parents are given the option to stay, but you don't have to. There is a window on the other side that you can watch your kiddo as they do their class. I really loved that as I could see how my kids went from shy and reserved to outgoing and excited. From what I saw, I wouldn't say either is doing 'gymnastics' lol, but they're having a really fun time, and that's enough for me. We'll continue to keep coming back as long as the kids want to.

They sanitize the studio after every session and take cleanliness serious by encouraging parents to not bring sick children. This location also hosts camps and other events throughout the year for the little ones, they are extra fee though. Members do get discounts on these extra classes though. They also run limited deals throughout the year such as sign a sibling up and get 25% off or 50% for a second class for current members. My only small gripe is I wish the younger kids classes such as the 2 year olds were a bit lower priced since they aren't really learning any skills, but more so just playing on the equipment.

I ended up parking near the basketball courts. There were many people at the park but there was still lots of available parking around. I saw people playing basketball, soccer, kites, football, etc. I was surprised they had a horse shoe court that looked like they could have a tournament as there were so many lanes. I walked through the park at first, walked to the dog park, then the pond, then circled back to the forest playground, which was huge! If my kids were little they would have loved this place! They had a stage that could have a small outdoor concert. After checking out the kids' playground, I went for a full walk around the park and realized there were 9-11 memorials, military gold star family memorials, and other patriotic displays along with huge flag in the middle of the park. There were areas to have picnics, exercise areas, and lots of open space for pets and kids and any outdoor activities. There were two bathroom areas at opposite sides of the park. One near the kids playground and the other near the skate park. I did about 1.5 loops around the park before leaving. I didn't like that there were people smoking weed in their cars and the smell was pretty strong. But overall the park is nice and perfect for family outings and a day out in the sunshine.
