I found this website listing the best neighborhood holiday light shows throughout Hampton Roads…read more The article is from last year, but most people do it every year. *Note: the article also covers all major cities in the country. https://www.redfin.com/blog/2014/12/the-best-neighborhoods-to-see-holiday-lights-in-2014.html#.VngNVBUrK00 Holt Family Lights (HFL) was definitely the best of the bunch I visited last night. What a sight to behold! My youngest son and I enjoyed all of the lights and the music that goes along with them. There are so many things to see--you really need to stop and watch for a while. *Please park on the side streets and walk into the court to see the show. *There is music playing while you're outside, synced with the lights. If you watch the show from your car, tune your radio to 98.3. *Cali's Concessions--While you're there, grab some popcorn, hot chocolate, or candy. The proceeds go to a charity of Cali's choice. I think the concession cart might start at 6 pm. We were there around 5:30 and no one was there yet. *Follow them on Facebook to see the current times. (https://m.facebook.com/pages/Holt-Family-Lights/163705990330762) There are several holiday light shows throughout this area, and those are lovely to drive through (and expensive). But there is something special about visiting these neighborhood light shows. If you live in Hampton Roads, definitely check out HFL. Otherwise, go check out that website I posted and see what light shows are around you!

Tap! Tap! Beer Festival - One of the many samples of beer

For the entry fee (tickets the day of were $45), you got to sample beers from over 20 different breweries plus there was live music, several arts/crafts/raffles, and food trucks. You get a small glass when you enter, maybe 4-6 oz. or so, and then you can take it around to all the stations for UNLIMITED beer samples! There were honestly so many beers, we didn't even get to try all the stations. My top three favorites came from Capstan Brewing (Cream Ale - smooth and summery), Intermission Beer Company (Abbey Ale - a liquid banana nut muffin), and the one table serving a red ale, but dang if I can't remember the name of the place! We were toting the baby with us, so I was worried when we first drove in because we were parked pretty far from the entry. But a tractor shuttle came by and picked us up, dropping us right at the gate and then back again to our car after the festival was over! Every was super nice and we had a great time chatting with folks, checking out the pigs and other animals, and of course, sampling the beer. Really, the only downer was the rain - everyone was a little soggy and muddy by the time we headed home - but we were in good spirits about it. I'd definitely check this event out again!

I really enjoyed spending the sunny afternoon at greenbrier farms, chatting it up with everyone, watching the bids at the silent auction, perusing local artists and sampling a wide variety of beers at the fingertips! My husband focused on the ipa and stouts while I stuck with the cider and ales... it was all super fun and the live music gave it a celebratory type of feel. What was nice was that you were allowed to bring plenty of water and snacks. Although if you come empty handed, food trucks serving seafood and pizza stood by to feed the masses. Definitely a fun tradition to go to every year and benefit those less fortunate. I am definitely a fan!!!

I've had friends go in previous years, and this year was my turn. Now that I've experienced it for myself, I can say I'll be at every wine festival next year ,spring and fall included! As someone still expanding my wine palate, this was such an amazing experience. The vendors were sweet, knowledgeable, and so patient, There were a two wines Im obsessed with one that tasted exactly like a green tea shooter (I was sold on that one!), and another combo where the vendor mixed a strawberry wine with a chocolate red wine to make a chocolate-covered strawberry flavor

The best things I can tell you are vendors are happy to serve you, you might wanna get there early, and either get a group and buy a table to sit or a hotel near by for a lil mid wine fest nap lol. TRUST I get out there, try my wines, then wake up from my nap with money in hand to buy the best ones!! Def something fun to do and since all the wines are local? It ain't nothing but a fun day or even weekend trip to go grab a bottle at the winery you couldn't stay away from. I give it high ranks. Oh and of course? The food good too. Plenty of food trucks out there with a lot of different options. I usually just get a bucket of fries from one vendor (and if you keep the bucket it's like 4$ refills anytime they're over there) and then try something new I didn't try last time. This past time I just wanted the ribbon fries and some wings. I was asleep boy I tell ya. I have one bad for me. That is I feel like I see these wineries only. I love that it's a Va wine fest but where the rest of the wineries?? I feel like I had about the same options both times but maybe I'm just remembering wrong But yeah. Wine fest get your tickets early and beat me there don't meet me there.

Hunt Club Farm - Birthday party on the farm

They loved the animal enclosure especially the chickens and were very excited about the goats. The playground was also wonderful and perfect for my 2 year old to run around and explore. My 2 year old is on the autism spectrum, so I really want to recognize that the environment at the farm felt very sensory-friendly. The gated areas were especially helpful because my son tends to elope, and it allowed me to feel much more comfortable letting him explore. For families with toddlers or children with additional needs, that kind of setup makes a big difference and is truly appreciated. However, I'm very disappointed with our experience during the pony ride. I paid $10 for my 2 year old to ride a pony, and I was genuinely excited because it was his first time ever being on a horse. I've heard so many positive things about how horse riding can help regulate children on the spectrum, so this was a moment I was really looking forward to as a parent. Unfortunately, the staff member who took us around for the pony ride was extremely rude and clearly seemed like she did not want to be there. Her attitude made the interaction very uncomfortable, and it honestly felt like we were an inconvenience. I pushed through the moment so my son could still enjoy his ride, but it completely took away from what should have been a really special first experience. When we looked back at the photos we took of the moment, in some of them she is actually rolling her eyes, which was very disappointing to see. No parent wants their child's first experience with something special to feel like they are bothering the staff. I'm sharing this feedback because the farm itself is a wonderful place for young kids, and I hope management is aware of how interactions like this affect families' experiences. The animals, playground, and environment were great, but customer interactions especially during experiences like pony rides should feel welcoming and positive for families and children.

Despite it being very packed on a weekend, there was plenty to do without out it feeling over crowded. The animals are were the sweetest and you can tell they are accustomed to the attention and the feedings. We loved petting the animals as they were all gentle! I especially loved that the Farm had many photos opportunities set up! The growth chart is a cute one, especially if you come back each year to capture the growth! We spent the bulk of our time at the adventure trees. Climbing through all the different rope bridges and fast slides! We didn't ride the ponies since the line was pretty long, but I'd love to in the future. I saw many people hosting birthday parties & baby showers here. Pretty cool that the farm has that option. I'm interested to see if they'd host a corporate event here! Overall, I can't say enough good things about this place. Highly recommend visiting! If you're debating, this is your sign to just go! :)

That's incredible for pungo and the festival vendors. Parking is $10 which is pretty pricey. I spend less parking at events at the oceanfront and waterside. It's nothing but locals so I wish they would decrease by $5 considering everything at the festival is pricey and people spend a lot on the food. A little cut in parking would make up for that. Sadly there wasn't as much strawberry items as previous years. I appreciated Lolly's and Sawdust having strawberry inspired drinks. I found a strawberry shortcake dessert and strawberry lemonade and that was about it. Really sad about that as pungo houses a lot of yummy strawberries. Nonetheless this is a local spot that I've come to for years and won't stop now. I just hope it continues to listen to the locals and adjust here and there.

We caught the last day on the Sunday. - Set Up - The pavilion that houses the International Sand Sculpting Championship is on 7th. There were a few food vendors on 5th and 6th and then there are just a sea of vendors past 7th for goodness knows how far. The line to the pavilion wraps around and looked deceivingly long, but thr line moved pretty quickly. There is a $7 entrance fee, cash only, and kids under 12 are free with an accompanying adult. It is just so incredible to me that these artists basically put their heart and soul into these masterpieces and all for a limited time, and if you were lucky enough to see it, you will be included in the select # of people to have experienced it in real life. Sure there will be thousands, upon thousands of pictures taken, but never like the real thing. These aren't your little sand castles on a normal beach day either. Massive structures both in width, height and depth! Just remarkable! There were solo sculptures and tag team ones from artists from literally all over the world, including from our own country. Although there was a big crowd, it wasn't jam packed. There was even a sculpture they had available to get a little closer to take photo ops. You could vote for one solo and one tag team sculpture. The rest of the festival had local vendors from near and far! We found Flippin' Hangry to grab a quick bite of lumpias and pancit and walked all the way down to 23rd to see Cherry, the red ice cream trailer from Sundae Scoop! Definitely looking forward to attending again next year and will make it a yearly tradition!
