In town visiting family and was looking for an activity to do with my nephews. A few months ago we did archery next door, this time we tried axe throwing at Tribal Axe. The entire staff was friendly and professional. Our coach Nasir was patient and friendly. He brought over a wide range of throwing implements throughout our hour. My favorite was the hatchet sized axe but the rest were fun as well. They display various digital games over the wood target, we enjoyed tic tac toe, bowling, darts, and a traditional target. They change the boards daily and Nasir used a sprayer to wet them a few times during the hour. That ensured that more of the axes stuck in the target. Definitely a challenging activity! read more

This was such a good time! I have only ever been axe throwing once in Savannah, but it was just as fun as the first time. It was my husband's birthday and we had a rare occasion of a triple date night with the brothers and sisters and my mother-in-law was also in town to watch all the grandkids. We chose to start the evening with axe throwing at Tribal Axe. One of my BILs made the resys earlier in the evening and we all signed the waiver before arriving. Check in went very smoothly with the staff member checking IDs and taking payment. We had to watch a short video, but I have to be honest, with the noise level, I did not hear a word. So maybe just some feedback to allow guests to listen to the video in the reception area vs on the other side of the reception where all the noise of the area just drowns out the video sound. The place is quite large! Lanes are configured in different sections, but there is also a bar and seating area for patrons to either take a break or hang and eat. They have a full bar and a full kitchen with a decent offering. I was pretty impressed considering they are a axe throwing place! They showed us to our lane and we were greeted by a coach. He explained some tips and was checking on the lanes the entire night. He touched up the bullseye when it was getting butchered or moistening boards when it was being chipped too much. I didn't have much luck getting my axe to stick on the actual board haha, but after the coach gave me a few more pointers, I did better! Thanks, Coach! The waitress we had was so great. Super friendly and checked on us often. I was the DD (designated driver), so I ordered their flavored freshly squeezed lemonades that I ended up getting two (peach and mango). Really fresh and good! My sisters-in-law got Long Islands and other fancy cocktails and the bros getting a mix of cocktails and beers. Again, I was pretty impressed with the presentation of the drinks (in real glasses vs plastic cups). Also, as much as the waitress was super friendly, they don't mess around. One of my SILs got cut off because she was a bit tipsy from pre-drinking at our house, so the waitress politely declined to take her drink order. We had a good laugh about it and completely understood her move. So good job, for keeping this under control! For one and a half hours, they had 6 of us in one lane and it cost about $70 for two people. What better way to enjoy a Saturday night than with ax throwing! My daughter and I wanted to try something different so we decided to head to Tribal Axe and try it out since we'd never been. I purchased the tickets online, which were $25 pp, and the only availability was for 9pm so I took it. As soon as we arrived, we were happily greeted at the front desk, watched a brief video and were escorted to our area. The area was pretty secluded with just one other cage right next to us so I liked that a lot. The associate that guided us gave us a brief overview of how to properly throw the ax and where to stand. After that, we were given an hour to have fun. A waitress came by to take our order so we decided on the Pickle Fries, Loaded Fries and Chicken Quesadilla! I was pleasantly surprised by the food, all of the food tasted amazing, especially the Loaded Fries!!!! Overall, my daughter and I had an amazing time! I will say, ax throwing isn't as easy as it looks. My daughter got the hang of it right away but it took me some time to get the technique....but once I did, I was a pro lol. We laughed and enjoyed ourselves the entire time and will definitely be returning. A host then escorted us to our lane before our coach, Caleb, gave us lessons. I stunk at first while my wife owned it. Ended up catching on pretty well, so much that Caleb started showing us trick shots with up to 4 axes! Nice guy. Wife and I kept score for the first 2 rounds then did our own thing. Sheet they provide has conventional scoring or 2 of each number bingo scoring. They serve food and adult beverages with servers constantly cruising around. Kinda concerning given environment, so you should stay aware of surroundings; you know, you're throwing sharp objects. We didn't partake since we went to dinner before coming. It was pretty loud inside due to the volume of people. At times, you get startled bc of proximity/orientation of other lanes perpendicular to your chill area. Restrooms on site. It's axe throwing! While you're highly recommended to make a reservation, you can walk in and score a lane depending on your luck. The staff is nice and attentive, and the food is pretty okay. I ordered the loaded fries which didn't look as I expected but were good enough to finish and the sunset soda was definitely something I'd order again. I came with two friends and we were set up for axe throwing within a matter of moments. The safety video took only about a minute to get through. Michelle was the main coach who showed us how to throw, and how not to throw, and everything else we needed. It took a little bit to get the feel for it, but eventually we had some pretty consistent throws on the target. then just when we think we're getting it, the axe falls to the ground with a thud. It's quite humbling. It's a little bit of a tight space, you need to make sure people have their room to throw and walk. They do have a full bar with a good variety of food options. After looking at reviews online and hearing about it from a co-worker, I decided to try this place out for myself and see if it was the rage everyone was talking about. It was me, my girlfriend and three friends of ours who decided to do an hour session. Since it was a mid-level size group, we were very fortunate to have a section with two targets. We were trained on how to throw axes (you're given a small and big one), where to stand when you throw your axe and what not to do (walk towards your target when someone's throwing an axe to where you could get hurt is a very big one). And once that was finished, off the races we went. I had no idea it was gonna be that HARD to ace hitting targets with axes. But boy oh boy was I in for a rude awakening. For probably 15 minutes, I didn't hit a single point (we weren't even taking points since this was all for fun) and even asking for assistance from our trainer, who was very friendly and informative. I was doing so bad that one of our friends literally told me to 'think about throwing an axe at someone you want to kill'.........no joke!!! I was like 'I can't do that!!', but at this stage, I wanted to score a point. So the harder I threw my axe (I mostly prefer the smaller one), I started to score!!! And hold and behold, I hit the bullseye shot.....not one, but twice!!!! They weren't exactly the 'on the money' shots, but you can count them as shots. Much fun indeed!!! At the end of the day, it was a blast. And a workout at that!!! My arm ended up hurting for a couple of days, but it was worth the experience. Expect a workout when coming to this place. What a perfect place for a girls' night! They make it simple. All you have to do is book and pay online to reserve the lanes. They make it really easy to sign the waivers as well so you don't have to do it in person. Seven of us came in on a Saturday at 5 pm and they were pretty busy. They checked us in, checked our IDs, watched a short video, and that's it. They showed us to our lane and assigned Caleb to us as our Axe instructor. He was great! He showed us how to throw the axes, the rules, and even some suggestions. Everyone was so nice and accommodating. $23/per person for 1 hour is pretty reasonable. We all had so much fun! We had THE BEST time ever!!! The facility was very organized checking us in, instructing us and getting us started. Such a fun and different experience! Tribal Axe is located in a small business center with not many signs, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled. Been meaning to come here for weeks with my coworkers, but they get booked fairly quickly, especially for larger parties. When we went, we had 9 in our party. Some had to sign their waiver once there and it was no hassle. The entryway is small but they do have a fridge with drinks for sale and a bathroom of course. Past the entryway are about 8-10 lanes within 4-5 cages. Since our group was big, we had 2 lanes. The coaches were the best! They laid down the rules and regulations and consistently interacted with us throughout our session. They helped us with our stance and even showed us new throwing tricks! Though...I wouldn't advise until more experienced Lol. We stayed for an hour and it was perfect timing for completing a game. You have 2 throws with different sized axes waiting on a cinder block. Sometimes the axe bounces off the wood, so make sure you are paying attention! The only downside to Tribal Axe is its size. Thankfully it was a nice day outside, but there is virtually no waiting space here. The axe throwing area was packed and though there were a few chairs by the lanes, it was hard to see all the action with people standing in front of you and walking by. The entryway has no chairs, so there are a few once you get into the axe range(?) but it doesn't suffice when you have a big party on top of other parties waiting around too. I think going on a day/time when it's less congested is better. Though, the space thing honestly didn't interrupt the overall experience which is why I'm still giving 5 stars. We are Tribal Axe veterans and usually go at least two to three times a year. The staff were all pleasant, from their front desk to the bartender Cherokee. This time our Tribal coach was Brady. He was personable and took time to check in repeatedly over the course of our two hour session. He showed us some trick shots, shovel and knife throwing. He made everything look easy while also offering encouragement and advice when we tried to recreate his success...which was of course, much harder than it looked! I always recommend Axe throwing, as it is a ton of fun - Tribal Axe is definitely one of my favorite facilities to throw at. We also tried their cheesy fiesta tots- They were fried to crispy golden perfection. I recommend if you're looking for a little snack to tide you over while throwing. They do a good job of explaining what the technique is, and the different games you can play. Our "coach" was helpful and professional and was an excellent sport at playing "referee" whenever we had a disagreement about whether the axe was inside the line. We ordered some snacks and beers as well. The tater tots were good and the drinks were reasonably priced. They also had a nice gift shop and my friends each bought a hat. A pretty solid place! $20 pp for an hour. You can make appointments which is highly advised during their busy hours, walk-ins are available during slower times of the day. I definitely recommend calling ahead if you don't have an appointment and they can advise you as needed. I inquired about military discounts. They do offer a 10% military discount with proof. Currently they are not able to apply the discount online, but in person they can. Waivers are signed online or at the store. The storefront looks like a typical business/shop, however of course it's in a warehouse. They sell cold non alcoholic beverages for $2. We were greeted by the owner who was super friendly and definitely enthusiastic about their business which is always awesome! She provided us with information about the facility and showed us the tabletop Jenga table where we could play while waiting for a lane. They currently have an all female staff which of course is super helpful when giving tips on throwing. They can teach you how to do backward throws which my friend did. I didn't want to accidentally kill anyone so I held off on that. We did try some double handed throws and underhanded throws. There are 5 lanes and each lane has two targets and I'm deferring the max number of people in a group to a lane to the website or for staff. We only had three people in our group so it made it easier to rotate. They have some other different axes they handed to us to try out which was cool. For the most part each person had 4 smaller axes and then one long handled 2lb axe. Safety rules are simple. -people in the same lane throw at the same time. -stay within the yellow box when throwing. -retrieve axes at the same time. Retrieve the axes in the target first then the ones on the ground. ALWAYS make sure all the axes are thrown before retrieving axes. Most importantly make sure you're paying attention when axes are thrown because they ricochet at times. Also they have a league! $125 I think, (just double check ) for 7 or 8 weeks. They have a cap on the number of players. Check with the owner! This is definitely a great addition to the Hampton roads area!! Come do some throws for shows! You'll have an "axe"citing time! Haha sorry I had to do it! It's a very clean facility with one bathroom and several tables and chairs. It does get hot in there. Great spot to try something different. We visited Tribal Axe on a late Friday afternoon so we were able to get a "lane" without a reservation. Overall, I thought the was very nice. I'm not a huge ax thrower, but I did notice that one of our targets(???) was very weathered to the point you could barely see the bullseye and the various rings. 2/14/21 - our first time throwing axes and also our anniversary. It was such a fun day date learning how to do this! We reserved 1.5 hours, which was the perfect amount of time - not too long nor too short. The staff was welcoming and helpful with a short video at arrival, basic tutorials, a little background on the certification of the place, small talk and even picture taking after our session. The waitress, God bless her soul, was very kind and took our order amidst weaving through axe throwers. In the food department, I am not sure what I was expecting, but the Buffalo cauliflower bites were very flavorful bc the batter was seasoned well and came with ranch. Great new place to try in Va Beach! When I mentioned axe throwing, people looked at me like I'm crazy but don't knock it til you try it. You can go online and prepay for a slot for 2-5 people, for 6+ participants, they'll have you pay a deposit to save a lane for you. You can also fill out your waiver online once you've confirmed your booked slot; it saves time when you arrive. $20 per person for 1 hr or $30 a person for groups of 6+ (according to the website) Walking in, it's not a huge space but it's just enough. There's a giant jenga for people who are waiting for their turn, pretty neat. We came on a evening when it was pretty busy but the employees were able to accommodate us pretty well. The guy who gave us the safety tips is named Hector and he made us feel comfortable with trying it out. He and the other women helped us with pointers throughout our time there. Valentines Day date win!! Our family of 3 went for Valentine's Day and had such an amazing time. We booked online and paid. They do require a 7 day cancellation for a refund but this didn't deter us in anyway. Ashley was our trainer she explained the rules and tips perfectly. She was encouraging but not pushy to my daughter (14 yrs old you have to be at least 12). She checked up on us, gave us kudos when we hit the target and gave us the perfect amount of space to enjoy our time together. They have two games you can play which we got through a game of cricket after feeling comfortable w/ throwing. I would give yourself like 15 min to get used to it and then play a round of cricket it really helps w/ getting the hang of it. Tipping isn't required but we did bc I was really really pleased w/ our experience. This would be a great first date, date night, group date, company event. This place is a great choice for a date (night) or small group gathering. If you have 2 or 3 people, I would recommend reserving your lane for 1.5 hours. My boyfriend and I did 1.5 hours and it was perfect; we had enough time to try all the different types of throws, play some of the games, and order a few drinks from the bar. Next to us, there was a couple who booked 2 hours but ended up finding that 1.5 hours was plenty, so they left. Of course, if you have a larger group and have to wait to take more turns, 2 hours might be better. Nevertheless, I am very impressed with the efficiency and operation of Tribal Axe. Having found the place online before coming to VA Beach for vacation, we couldn't be sure that it would be as awesome as it was. Luckily, we had a BLAST! There is ample parking outside as it is a little bit inland from the oceanfront; you would need a car to get there, but it took hardly 10 - 15 minutes. Once we parked, we went inside about 5 minutes before our reservation to check in and get 21+ wristbands. Before we were taken to our lane, we watched a short safety video. At our lane, we were met by our "Axe Coach" (Daelin) who was assigned to us and the nearby couple mentioned above, helping to show us what to do and how to do it. I did not know or realize that you are essentially babysat by the ace coach. However, I do understand why it's the safe thing to do; personally, I just have a hard time with being corrected on my "form" when I'm just here to have a good, albeit safe, time. Daelin was great, though; he definitely knew the fine line between helping us out and doing too much. I did appreciate his tips and, as the reservation went on, he let us be a little bit more. Fortunately, though, he was always nearby if we had a question or if it was time to show us a new "trick" throw like the underhand throw or the double-axe throw. Throughout the reservation, bar staff circulate throughout the place to start tabs and take orders. We would recommend the Sunset Soda (non-alcoholic) as well as the Blue Moon beer and Downeast Cider. We were there during happy hour, which meant that some drinks and appetizers were discounted. Very cool. Ultimately, we had a great time and made some awesome memories. I'm not sure how often we'll go axe throwing in the future, but we would certainly go back to this Tribal Axe location. 10/10! read more

So much fun! My significant other and I were looking for something different to do on date night so we made a reservation at Tribal Axe. The online reservation system is very easy to use and makes booking a slot simple. We have been to other axe throwing locations, but this is by far our favorite. Tribal Axe has a ton of lanes, which allows for social distancing between them and can still accommodate a good number of people. It is clean throughout the location and you can see they take sanitizing seriously. They also enforced the mask wearing well. There is a nice bar here that serves good drinks. One of my favorite things about this location is that they teach you trick shots! Other axe throwing establishments I have visited limit you to a over the head double hand or single hand throw. But here at Tribal Axe your coach will take the time to teach you how to properly do some trick shots, which makes it all the more fun!
