I never understood the attraction of axe throwing places until trying out Stick It Ace Throwing…read moreafter finishing up a laser tag session while in town visiting a family member stationed at Fort Eustis. It was a perfect and memorable way to spend a rainy day with our soldier and give something new a try. Before you start, a staff member will walk you through the throwing technique for small, large, and one-handed axe throwing. Taylor explained everything clearly and effectively, and was encouraged us throughout our games. I felt safe with his instruction and observation. There are several mini-games you can play with your group, such as the traditional darts-style, zombie hunting, and candy crush. You get the lane for a whole hour and there is plenty of time to run through several games without ever getting bored.

While visiting my parents we decided to do this as a family outing. The ace throwing is nestled…read moreinside of a laser tag place, and also has a small arcade area. We were greeted as we walked in the door and the gentleman behind the counter got us checked in and had everyone fill out a waiver. Our throwing instructor introduced himself and got us started. Everyone had a blast! And I was especially impressed that when someone found they were having issues with form or whatever he jumped in and helped to correct us so we had a better chance at hitting the target. They had several games that we played that allowed us to compete on teams. So much fun, we will be back!

I had never been ax throwing before and thought it would make a good date for the hubby and I. I…read moremade a reservation online with a small reservation fee and then we paid the rest during our visit. A host helps check you in, sign waivers and escorts you to the bar area. There's a small selection of can drinks including alcoholic ones, tea, soda, water. I liked that they stock Sly Clyde's cider from Hampton. Not sure sharp objects and alcohol is the best idea but everyone seemed to be behaving responsibly. We were escorted to some bays that had two lanes next to each other and then separated by a fence before two more open lanes. We were given a safety brief at the lanes with people in two other lanes and some instructions on how to throw. Don't pass axes by hand, put them in the return box. Different styles of how to throw. Thankfully we had the full bay to ourselves since so one was in the open bay next to us. We played for 75 min which was a comfortable amount of time. They also have a knife throwing option which we didn't select. There's some seating available near the throwing area for non players. Each bay has a standing bar with two backless metal seats. I was able to throw comfortably with a walking boot on for a sprained ankle. I appreciated that since I didn't even think of that before reserving a space. I was nervous at first but managed to do ok with the over head two hand throw. The bay attendant didn't check on us after bringing our pretzel bites and so it didn't seem necessary to tip for service. We were able to get an additional score cards on the way to the snack area and that is where you close out your tab for your outing. The kiosk offers a tip option so maybe they share with the attendants. I talked with a friend who had been there previously and she said the booth attendant asked for a tip when she went and that was off putting. That wasn't our experience though. Overall we spent just over $100 for our date night. While there is snacky food available, it's not the type of place you are going for dinner and fun. Get a meal before or after somewhere else. The bay next to us had plans to go to Buffalo Wild Wings across the street.

Second time hitting this location & really nothing but good things to say!…read more I made same day reservations and even came an hour early without an issue. They tend to get really busy in the evenings so go early or make sure to make a reservation. Jack, our guide, was helpful in technique and energy. It was nice to have him jump in a few times to help out but didn't feel like hovering. Also, love their enthusiasm for bulls eyes. We have had food and drink- both very good to pair with game play. Snack, bar food like loaded tots, curly fries etcs. Canned beer, cocktails and wine available.

The different obstacles were so much fun. The course was easy to hook into and the employees were very helpful. ( for a first timer) And once you started a course you couldn't stop for any reason. If you are too scared to go down the zip line you have to back through the course if there's ppl behind you they also have to go back. If you bring kids you have to do the course and zip line or the kids can't. But only one person at a time can go so does it really matter... my son (13 yrs old) had ran ahead and completed to courses before I even did one. They made him stop to wait for me. I appreciated that. But mid way I wanted to back out of the zip line they told me my son wouldn't be able to continue the courses if I did. Some of the staff were annoyed with basic questions like do you have a "trash can "or "do you have smaller gloves" (that are mandatory to wear) but the girl we had was amazing. She was great my son's leg had gotten stuck in a ring on one of the courses she climbed up stupid fast like a spider monkey to help him. But over all it was great and so much fun. It was a complete work out down the muscles in my fingers that I didn't even know we had. I also recommend getting the cell phone holder thing and the fingerless gloves
