Avon has at least four donut shops within 1-2 miles of each other - Parlor, Dunkin, Pana, and Carl's. Of these, Carl's is clearly the "local" shop. It has the look and feel of a gathering place. While the others do offer sit-down dining, especially Parlor, Carl's feels like a smalltown donut joint with its simple but pleasant decor, lower pricing, and comfortable but pleasing service. Carl's Donuts & Bakery is a locally owned donut shop (Pana is also locally owned, though a growing chain). Carl's also doubles as a cafe and also serves other breakfast items alongside its donuts. The major plus to this approach for a guy like me is that fountain drinks are available including iced tea. I'm constantly dismayed how hard it is to get iced tea in donut shops. I was dismayed to read Jen F's review noting poor customer service as my experience was quite the opposite with customer service being a key strength. The basics: Carl's is located in what looks like a small office complex with a mix of retail and personal service type businesses. It's toward the back. There's some accessible parking and appropriate curb cuts. There's a double entry with glass doors that were pretty easy to manage. As you enter, a dining area is directly to the front of you and to the right side. To the left is the ordering area - I think I goofed up at entry - you begin toward the back and then exit out the front path. I went in through the front, though there wasn't a line and no one said anything. The employees asked if I was ordering breakfast or donuts. I typically get 2-3 donuts and a drink. I stuck with this plan, however, given the comfy atmosphere opted to dine in. I haven't had much time to rest recently and it was nice to sit down. I felt a little out of place (everyone else was clearly local), though everyone was friendly. I ordered chocolate covered yeast donuts and a fountain unsweetened iced tea. They offer discounts, it seems to military, teachers, and first responders. The donuts had a slightly thicker yeast than some that lean toward fluffy. These were more substantial. The chocolate reminded me of Titus Bakery. The iced tea was great - no clue on brand. I could have stuck with two donuts instead of three and been satisfied. The service was a top feature here for me. They were friendly, helpful, and patient as I figured things out. I watched them easily serve a group of senior males gathering in one corner (pouring coffee, etc.). Carl's does not have a drive-thru. Their Facebook indicates they offer curbside pick-up. In future visits, I'd likely experiment with donuts. This particular chocolate is not a favorite for me. I enjoyed it, but I'd easily experiment. There's no doubt I'd return for the service. At a time when I've recently lost my last family member, it was nice to be in a comfortable, welcoming, and warm environment. It did my spirit good. I would also love to return to enjoy a meal here. Carl's wasn't packed, but it was steady throughout my visit and it's clear that Avon loves its donuts and it loves its smalltown gathering spaces.

There was a line of people waiting patiently to select their donuts when we walked in. There were many cases filled with fresh donuts, fritters, danish, turnovers and more. Two clerk were assisting customers, most of whom were buying several dozen donuts. I got a glazed donut and my husband got an apple fritter. The fritter was bigger than his head. My glazed donut was a cake donut. It was light with a perfect glaze. The apple fritter was like a coffee cake with lots of apples and a glazed topping. He shared the fritter with our granddaughters. There was plenty to go around. The cafe serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have daily meal specials. The lady in line ahead of us said the pork tenderloin is the best in town. Pork tenderloin is only served Monday-Thursday. We'll have to come back. They have about 20 tables for eat-in dining. There is a unisex restroom. Stop #4 of the donut trail will require a return visit.

Simpli place hasn't really changed much probably since it was opened new paint once in a while, the ladies behind the counter are always very friendly and talkative. This place usually has an extremely long line especially on the weekends, I was lucky that there was no one in line when I got there. Prices are really good. They have a whole lot of different options. Different choices of donut, cakes, pastries. The atmosphere is like an old-fashioned bakery. They even have a picture on the cash register from back in the day. Highly recommend this if you're looking for a great yeast donut, or any kind of donut or cake. Although the donut holes were tasty, they were pre-bagged in white wax bags in the case so I didn't see them before purchasing. I was surprised that they were basically six holes still attached to each other, so each dozen are just two large donuts and you are left to separate them. People buying donut holes generally are looking for a bite sized donut that aren't going to have to be fingered by everyone you are sharing them with (the entire office). I view this as laziness. If I wanted one extra large donut, that's what I would have ordered. The point to donut holes is you only touch the one you're taking. Do better, Long's.

I hadn't had their milk tea before so I got a small and added boba to it. I thought it was ok - maybe some other flavors are better but I definitely feel like the donuts are where they excel here. Lucky for her, my dog woke me up early so I threw on some clothes and took my sleepy eyes to the bakery where, not quite open yet, a number of people were waiting outside for the door to be unlocked. Hilligoss has been around since 1974 (family owned). No shop compares! Friendly and efficient staff, and if you don't know what kind you want, ask them for a dozen variety and they will choose for you (though my favorite will always be plain glazed)

Located just off Washington Street behind The Med, they're such an easy location to access with complementary parking right outside the front door. This site is extremely spacious with plenty of indoor only seating and complementary WiFi. With drip coffee, craft coffee concoctions, and other beverages on the menu, you'll have no problem finding something to wet your whistle as you dive in to an indulgent feast of Jack's well known donut options. The staff is just lovely here! After being open only one day, patrons were flooding this site and came ready with inquiries. The staff members patiently provided answers and were total pros! Not in the mood for donuts? (I don't even understand those words, but to each their own. Lol!) Not a problem here! Homemade ice cream can also be found on their menu. Irvington gets a donut shop!…read more I love a good donut, but really it's an impulse...it needs to be close to work or close to home, and for me.... there wasn't a spot convenient to either, UNTIL NOW! I had my hesitations about Jack's ... who knows why... but I learned so much more about Jack's and - of course - tried it out, and I am so happy they are here in the neighborhood. For one, they have both cake and yeast donuts. This is an absolute must for me. I love my cake donuts. Their yeast donuts are probably fine, but just don't really eat plain yeast, but the filled and topped creative yeast donuts, that's my JAM (lol...). I truly enjoy their creative flavors, many of which switch up frequently, so you gotta be a repeat offender to get the full value here! You know what else I found out? The various Jack's locations have a lot of room for creativity, so it's worth it to hop to our neighborhood to try out what Irvington is doing differently (and also for us to check out the other Jack's locations as well). I might just find a different fave at EACH store! Faves at the Irivington location are - NUT STICK and Blueberry cake. I have to have one of each whenever I go. I like trying whatever is their current special too! I have had a jelly filled with pb frosting - PB&J in donut form! Bluberry filled with white frosting - Berries & Cream! This location also has ice cream and stays open until 8pm, so definitely available for dessert after pizza, burger or greek from nearby locations! And, yes, they incorporate donuts and ice cream. I have not yet tried, but someday when i've run 10 miles and feeling very hungry, I'm going to try a donut ice cream sandwich! It's located in Pittsboro not far from 74. Not far from Brownsburg either. The inside is so bright and inviting. Donut lamps, yellow chairs, vintage pictures and a retro stereo with speakers. They had quite a bit of seating and also make fresh coffee drinks. They use a machine that makes the mini donuts right in front of you and then you get to pick what toppings you want. Cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, different types of glazes. I chose the strawberry one and loved it. They also have donuts and gravy. Yum!!! My coffee was great and they had a nice fancy coffee machine with a grinder and everything! The decorations have various sport photos upon the wall as well as a small nod to Doug's wife's Japanese heritage. In speaking with Doug, you'll find him to be a very proud father of each of his grown children and heir accomplishments in life. This is a quiet spot, which would be very nice if you are looking for a place to work remotely or just a place to read! On the menu are so many various options of Donut toppings that you'll definitely need to return time and time again to be able to try them all! I got the Donuts n Gravy and though I was timid about the combination I found it be delicious! For the month of December they are running a special and if you purchase the Donuts n Gravy you'll receive a free cup of coffee! We also purchased Cinnamon and Sugar Donuts and a milk. I spoke with Doug about how his dream came to be and he told me of how when he was small his father would take him to see horses at the State Fair and get him Dinuts and his Mother said that even as a small child he said someday he wanted to make and sell Donuts. He has been running a mobile Donut truck since 2008 and now he has his brick and mortar shop which I hope will grow and prosper for him and his family!
