Niki got the shrimp basket with corn, coleslaw, toast to go alongside her pink lemonade. The food was great. The burger was juicy and flavorful. I am scared to know what the jumbo size option on that would have been as I only dented the heap of fries it nested on. The variety of ice cream for dessert was great, but the 2 available scoops were soaking in a cloudy container of gray water. I just used an ice cream teaspoon to dig down deep & dish up. Pocahontas is a halfway point for us on many travels, this was our first time visiting China Star. Naturally, I drove a good bit out of my way to investigate this pork steak for myself. It is in fact legendary and you should go here for yourself if you're ever within range of this place. To start, it's in a very small town and the vibes are as down-home as it gets. It's got a solid menu of recognizable bbq options and plenty of seating to accommodate your group. It's clean and the people are as friendly as could be. Service was quick, prices were beyond reasonable. Now on to this pork steak. I, myself do not have a lot of experience with pork steaks so I'll do my best to describe what I had. It looks like a steak. It weights 2lbs. It's on the bone and fork-tender. The fat is rendered perfectly and when you go at this thing with a fork and knife, it basically falls apart into what you'd normally find on a pulled pork sandwich. It was smoked beautifully, it was flavorful and delicious. I'm never going to forget it. I understand why they're famous for it. Just amazing. The au gratin potatoes were excellent as well and I'd definitely order this plate and everything on it again. Long story short this is an out of the way, hole in the wall kind of place in a small town. If you're passing by on the nearest interstate, it's worth it to plan a little excursion to it just to take in the deliciousness that they're providing. 5 stars all around.

Packaged gravy with no meat in it, deep fried bacon so it arrives as a wad of meat all curled up on the plate. Same bacon on a BLT, looks good and piled high, if you can chew it. The portion of smothered potatoes on an order as a wasn't even 1/3 of an oval cafe plate, also not browned AT ALL. It looked like a side order on the plate. It had a sprinkle of cheese and 3 nickel size pieces of ham with a few onions and peppers on it. Although we didn't eat it, the Sunday brunch buffet looked good.
