I will not be returning to this establishment. There are minimal vegan options at best, so I purchased a coffee and brought my own vegan biscuit. The owner asked me not to bring in outside food again in the future, which I understand (no matter how rude his delivery of that message was). I understood this to mean that this time was ok, but not to do it again. However, when I proceeded to eat my biscuit and drink my Park Grounds coffee on the patio, the owner kicked me out. I was previously a regular here and frequently brought friends with me, but this will no longer be the case because of the way that I was treated. I will bring my friends to a more hospitable location that offers vegan food for animal lovers like my friends and me. read more

I AM IN LOVE!.. With coffee?- Yes!.. With doggie parks?- Yes!.. With a cute quaint coffee shop, which is tucked away in an up and coming neighborhood, that has spendid coffee AND a fun dog park?- HELL YES!.. I am head over heels! Move over Starbuck's and Piedmont Park Dog Park, this place is where it is at (and where I will be at on many days to come!!)! I came here today to satisfy my daily bean juice craving, in addition to getting the pups some exercise. A proposed stay of 30 minutes (easily) regressed into a few hours here... Furthermore, my sole desire for coffee was altered with the purchase of not only coffee, but of a book (GRE study guide), an iced tea, as well as lunch! My pups played-and played- and played, while I studied under the gorgeous tree (Walnut I think?.. I dunno, I am no tree expert). What I do know though, is that tree provided refuge and shade for me to stay there for over 3 hours. So I, along with my pups, are ecstatic to NOT have to skip the doggie park when it gets hot outside, because we have ParkGrounds huge tree in the park! To be honest though, I will undoubtedly venture here rather than other coffee joints and Piedmont... The dog park is probably about 1/3 the size of Piedmont's, which is fine for my pups considering they mostly just chill in the small amount of shade Piedmont provides anyhow (which happens to be a muddy area the majority of the time). And, they sell a large array of books... I purchased a much needed "GRE Study Guide" for only $2! $2 I tell you!!! It is jam-packed with study questions that I am sure will assist me in acing the test (keeping my fingers crossed). Lastly (though I could ramble on and on about this place), the service was impeccable! The barista offered me a large sampling of their "pour over" coffee, which is flavorsome and better than your typical cup-o-joe. She recommended a Capriese sandwich paired with an exceptionally large side salad which both were fab for a grand total of $7.25. My only gripe was that I wanted another sandwich after devouring the first... Hehe. I cannot wait to go back. And as I sit here looking over my beloved, sleeping four-legged one's, I cannot help but think they are dreaming of going back to our new favorite park... zzzzzz.... Fun at ParkGrounds... zzzzzzz.... Thought I'd do a quick update since I got a new (completely insane) puppy since my last review, and have been coming here before work often to let her get some of her energy out. She whines to get out of the car all the way down Flat Shoals because she's so excited to get to Parkgrounds. There are issues as some other reviewers have addressed, mainly with dog owners not picking up after their own animals. I feel bad that this responsibility often falls to the staff, when people should be monitoring their own animals, as they'd be expected to do at any other dog park. Still, for the most part, I prefer the dog owners (and dogs) that frequent here over the insanity and unpredictability of Piedmont. Also, you can't get a beer or a coffee at any other dog park that I know of! If you haven't tried it out, try it out, you'll get hooked. it's a fantastic concept. I'm surprised I haven't seen any competition to Parkgrounds pop up (that I know of). 7/15/2014 EDIT: I won't be altering my rating too much, because this isn't the fault of the management at all. The people here do their best to run a complicated business (dog park, coffee-shop, and a bar all in one), but my dog was attacked for the first time there last Friday morning by a pit-bull mix. The dog didn't break the skin on my my dog, it was enough to scare the hell out my dog and me (and to give me some nasty bruising and scratches). Please, please, PLEASE STOP bringing your unsocialized and dangerous dogs to the dog park. Please be a responsible dog owner and pay attention to your dog while you're there, don't go inside and sit on your computer while your dog is causing trouble in the park. I've considered Parkgrounds one of the safer options, and it would be nice to keep it that way. We've been regulars in the past, but if I can't feel safe taking my dog here, then I don't see coming back here (at least during the summer when it seems like the worst dog owners in Atlanta all want to bring their dogs to dog parks). read more

This lil nook in Reynoldstown is all that and a dog park. Literally. Hailing from San Francisco who hosts its own vast array of coffee shops, I was super stoked to be riding my bike around Reynoldstown and stumble upon this obviously bike friendly, dog friendly coffee shop. Friendly folks, good vintage tunes playing, space for laptops, chats and lunch, this low ceiling-ed triangle joint is wonderful. I just had a coffee here, which was likely french press, and delicious. I don't think it gets much more indie (sans pretentiousness) than this. read more

It'd been over a year between visits - back then, two factors holding me back were the small-ish area for dogs, and limited food/snack choices. Returning recently was a pleasant surprise! The dog compound certainly seems expanded with much more room for them to run around - with the big tree in the center offering ample shade during those dog days of summer. The outdoor area is also smoker-friendly. The food menu has also improved significantly with creative & reasonably-priced breakfast sandwiches. They also have a "coffee club" card, where every 10th cup is on-the-house. With that, ParkGrounds went from a place I avoided to one that the dog now insists on frequenting ;-). read more

The Hubs and I decided to make ParkGrounds the location of our furbaby's first birthday party. No, we weren't like some of THOSE pet owners. We just told our friends who also have dogs to come kick it with us on a Saturday afternoon while the pups played in the dog park. So I guess we're kinda like THOSE pet owners. We enjoyed the food and drinks at ParkGrounds. The Hubs had an avocado turkey sandwich, and I had a breakfast sandwich. My sandwich wasn't all that big and The Hubs loved his sandwich so much, we ended up ordering another one to split (but I took too long to eat mine and the bugs got my half since we were sitting outside *bummed*). The dogs all had a blast running around, the humans enjoyed hanging out, and everyone left happy. Since we live nearby, we'll definitely be coming here frequently. read more

This place is a great local coffee shop with the added benefit of a fenced dog park attached. I just moved to Atlanta and ended up moving just down the street specifically because of this place! The staff are friendly, coffee and food are great. This is a neighborhood joint, dog centric, without a lot of pretense. Though it's been open for 3 years, the new owner has been making improvements and refinements (he's only had it a few months) and will hopefully be serving beer soon! I come here a few times a week to sit in the cafe and work on my computer. I used to come every Saturday with the dogs, but now I just come on my own. They have surprisingly good food, especially their biscuits and sandwiches. The people are super-nice and treat everyone like a friend. The other customers are friendly too, you often get into little conversations. The dog park gets crowded on weekends, and there is a nice big tree for shade. I do wish people would take more responsibility for their dogs' behavior and clean up after them, rather than putting their dog in the fence and then sitting inside. But, then, people can be jerks. don't let that stop you from coming over with your dog for a good romp. Just keep an eye on your little darlin'. read more

I love bringing my dog here to play! The cost of admission is just buy something. That is easy because their food is delicious and their beer selection is always good. My favorite Saturday morning meal here is a delicious cappuccino and tasty pastry (blueberry muffin FTW). The only negative to this place would be there is no parking lot, but street parking is usually not that difficult to find. It's a great spot to have a puppy play date. Dogs can play and owners can sit around the yard and relax. I will continue coming back for as long as they are open! read more

I'm sorry but what could possibly be a better combo than a dog park coffee shop? Thank you for existing, ParkGrounds. You give my pups something to look forward to...oh and the humans too. Some highlights: the breakfast burrito, the Stovall on an everything bagel, the turkey guacamole sandwich, all the coffee, being able to have a beer there, and the convenience of being able to order food/drinks at a dog park. Sometimes you get an unruly or aggressive dog but in our experience, the majority of dogs are very sweet and playful. There's a good variety of sizes (I have 2 under 16lbs and they always find friends) and breeds. It's a great place to socialize your pups and introduce them to new friends. I am caffeinated. Our dogs are exhausted. That's pretty much all that needs said... ParkGrounds is far more convenient for us than Piedmont Park. I agree that some of the dogs seem not to have supervision, but I've run into that at every park. We'll see if it becomes more of a problem for us here. They were out of their main beans and had to scramble to put together a cup, but that's secondary. I see this place as a dog park first and coffee shop second. The inside felt nice for the minute or so I was inside. I was too busy trying to scoot through the patio fence without doggie accompaniment to notice much of the patio. read more

(This is my 100th yelp review, by the way!) I was so glad to find Parkgrounds! I've been twice with my dog, and I plan to keep coming back. It's a great option for a dog park, because dog park + coffee = awesome. I've come only on Mondays during the day, and there's always been enough parking on the street. On the dog park side of things: I noticed that there are a few regulars who come to the park with their dogs, but I did not notice any pack mentality between the dogs. Everyone kept a good eye on their dogs and would intervene if needed. Everyone was very understanding and helpful with the other dogs and notified one another of any problems or concerns. One lady noticed a scratch on a dog that wasn't hers and found the dog's owner to tell him. I've seen 3-12 dogs there at a time. There are benches and tables and chairs out in the dog park, too, which is nice for the owners. There are trash cans and poop bags for everyone to use, and there's a spigot and two large bowls for water for the dogs. I've refilled them myself before, because with all the dogs around, the water can get dirty. The ground in the dog park is a lot of dirt, and now that it's fall, there are a lot of leaves. Be aware that your dog will likely get dirty, so being a clean up towel or something for your dog to sit on on the way home if you need to. My dog has short hair, and I haven't had a problem, but I've seen vey hairy and fluffy dogs get covered in leaves and some mud. The coffee shop side of things: There's an outdoor porch separated from the dog park by wooden gates where you can be out in the elements but still away from the dogs. Inside the coffee shop building itself, it's all pretty standard as far as a coffee shop goes. I've had friendly interactions with 3/4 of the staff I've been in touch with. I'm no coffee connoisseur, and I've enjoyed the cafe au lates I've had and the challah French toast. There are tables, a bar, and chairs to sit at. There are books to read. There is booze to drink. I think the booze and the dog park help Parkgrounds stand out among the other coffee shops around town. Being a dog owner, I come for the dog park, and I'd recommend anyone else to do the same. I noticed one reviewer mention the dog poop at the park being so close to your food. Dog people probably won't mind, honestly; that's how my own apartment is every once in a while. If the animals offend you, stay inside the building. In Korean dog cafes, the dogs and humans and cafe are all in one room ~together~ which I really enjoyed, so I definitely have no qualms with dogs nearby, and I doubt most dog people would, either. read more

I never knew you could delicately toast bread. I just thought there was bread, and then there was toast. But the sandwich these folks made for me was really good. Delicately toasted multigrain (even though I asked for whole wheat) around some turkey, a spread of cream cheese, and some guac. Good stuff. ParkGrounds is a small dog oasis in the middle of Atlanta. It's comfortable. Laid back. And the dogs seem to love the place. But even if you're not into dogs, ParkGrounds serves up some good stuff for those of us without four-legged friends. Breakfast foods, sandwiches, fruit juices, tasty coffee beverages, including a modest selection of beers makes this a cool place to hang out and chill out and just otherwise kick back for a while. This place is amazing! My dog and I have come here every day since moving to the neighborhood. The sandwiches are fantastic, and cheap! The staff is always really friendly. My dog LOVES playing here. Be aware that it is pretty much all dirt, so if it is wet at all, your dog will come home very dirty and muddy. The main door is secure, but the door to the intermediary entrance area is slightly ajar, so my little one can escape into that area easily. The food and coffee is good, but a little overpriced for the portions. It also took us over 30 minutes to get served breakfast after I went inside to check on the status of our order. I love the concept of this place and in fact it is a unique place to visit in Atlanta as one of the few places you can bring your dog and do some work while drinking a coffee. My main issue with this place is the food. I've ordered food a few times and it's been disappointing most of the time. I had the breakfast burrito last time, a menu item I typically like, but this one just lacked flavor and tasted bland. It's also not cheap. They had a coffee that was ok before, changed to new a one that is also just ok, but not great. I've tried several of the hot rotating regular cups as well as the iced americano which I liked a little more. The seating is good as you have a variety of places both indoor and outdoor to choose. The outdoor Wifi was not working the last time I went but usually hasn't been an issue. The other improvement I'd suggest is the customer service. It doesn't always feel friendly and welcoming. Overall still I'll continue patronizing the business as again, the format is unique and the location is convenient. read more

I cannot believe that there such place like this one exist !!! all the best things in the world in one place : coffee, food, bakery , cocktails, beers , wine AND A DOG PARK!!! I can now bring my puppy Ava with me to get coffee and she can have a great time with other dogs while I'm studying. I have an iced americano , my favorite drink that not too expensive and have enough caffein to help me survive through the day. I also had an almond croissant ( I think that's what it's called). They also has alcoholic drink, but I might have to come back on the weekend to try those. The service was great, I got my coffee really quick there no wait and long line like if in Starbucks and the coffee taste much better. There are also comfy couches for sitting inside the shop. I love going to this place on a nice afternoon. It can get really crowded so be cautious on those extra-nice Atlanta days. It's been really hit or miss with the quality of dog-parents, its a small playground and, as with any dog park, you'll run into some dogs who aren't as well trained and/or monitored as they should be. If you have a really active dog, this is not the place to take it to get the wiggles out- head to freedom barkway first then go to grab a beer with your four-legged friend. read more

The Stovall and vegan hash browns are my favorite breakfast items. I'm going to start saying that I love the concept, if you're like me a 4 legged mom, these type of places are amazing. I'm putting 3 stars because the food was completely average, like a sandwich you could make at home. Drinks are very limited, just juices, regular cokes and some beers. I would have like to see a zero calorie soda option. Prices are very affordable. For the dog side, I would upgrade the investment to add grass or astro turf. The second part, and I completely know it's not their fault, the owners need to be putting more attention to their dogs. No one like a dog that keeps trying to mount other dogs. Spent a few days in Atlanta for a mini-vacation so we decided to stop here with the pups. When you get there, your take the dogs into the fences in area of the dog park and unleash them. The Boyfriend kept an eye on the pups while I went to grab us something to eat inside. Some Yelpers say the menu is limited, but there were sandwiches, salads and breakfast options (and that's plenty for us). I had the breakfast platter (eggs, bacon, hash browns, multigrain toast and iced coffee). The boyfriend had a Turkey club and a side salad. Altogether about $20, but decent food. This was our first attempt at socializing our dogs, so we weren't sure what to expect. Our Great Dane and Husky were definitely the biggest dogs in the park, but they never even barked! What I liked about ParkGrounds the most is the relaxed atmosphere. It's very quiet, but not so that you can't enjoy a meal and conversation. I also loved how friendly the dogs were, and how other owners didn't mind our dogs running up to them for attention. I wouldn't call it dirty, but it IS dusty. There is a small patch of grass in the rear of the grounds. If you're wanting to get out for an hour or two or looking for a convenient place to eat with your dogs, this it it. read more

I wish Jacksonville had a business like this. It is set out a bit from the center of Atlanta in a cute little neighborhood. Cafe on the inside for the humans, and a playground for your canine companions on the outside. I checked this place out with a friend who lives in Atlanta and we brought her dog who loves to play here. There weren't any other dogs when we went due to a bit of rain and it being in the middle of a week day. There's plenty of space for the dogs to run and play. The play area could use some serious sprucing up, though. It is mostly all dirt. As it was a rainy day, it was extremely muddy and wet. If you go on a similar day, make sure you wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. There are also chairs and some tables around the play area to keep you closer and engaged with your pup. There's a small porch for dog owners or other customers to relax on. While there weren't any other dog owners here, I can see them easily becoming distracted from watching their dogs. Food was good. Sodas come in the glass bottles, which I definitely love. All in all, it's a quaint little place. The idea is good, but it could be great if a little more work was put it into it. read more

Really cool little place, tucked away in a neighborhood just outside the busier areas of Atlanta. While the breakfast options are sparse, the coffee (iced coffee for me) was very good. The backyard style dog area was full of dogs of all shapes and sizes, and provided a great place for my dog to socialize and play! Not a huge deal but it would've been nice to know as I was getting my stuff set up for work. They could benefit from having a speaker system connected to the patio. I first came here looking for an internet connection when someone broke into the Comcast enclosure in front of the house and stole our internet. Animal friendly, plenty of room to run unless it's Saturday afternoon and there's 50 dogs here. Sometimes a fight breaks out but most of the time the offender is shamed into leaving. Coffee, tea, cocktails, beer and some tasty muffins and samiches are the menu fare. Visitors with dogs are encouraged to at least buy a drink while you're waiting for Lassie to run off some steam. We've meet some great friends here. Relax under the huge oak tree and dodge the acorns in the fall, or sit on the outdoor porch if your pooch allows you some freedom. Can get quite messy after a downpour, so you may want to leave the puppy at home. read more

Sure, there are larger dog parks in Atlanta, but I'd drive past all of them to make my way to ParkGrounds. The staff here are friendly, the food is good, and the beer is cold! My dogs consider this place their second backyard. I recommend the hashbrown bowl, the Stovall breakfast sandwich, and the grilled cheese + pesto and tomato. read more

This is a great place to go if you want to let your dog run around while enjoying some "me time". There are two entrances. No dogs are allowed inside or at the porch. You enter through the gate if you bring your pet. I enjoyed a chai latte and it was just okay. Nothing special. They do have wifi but it wasn't very good outside. My dog did have a good time mingling. But be sure to always keep an eye. When I was there, two dogs got into a big fight, so you always want to be attentive. My favorite place is Reynoldstown! ParkGrounds is such an awesome place to grab a coffee (or mimosa) & low key breakfast while letting your dogs unwind. It's quickly become a weekly spot of mine since moving to the area a few months ago. While it's definitely not the fanciest place, prices are super affordable for the area which I love. I feel like most dog owners know the risks of taking their dogs to a public dog park (scuffles between dogs can happen, it's inevitable) but every time I've been there, the dog owners have been respectful and responsible. Also love that the tables are far enough away (and masks are required indoors) that I don't have to make the trade off between social distancing and allowing my dogs to burn off energy. read more

I couldn't decide whether to go to Parkgrounds with my own dog and a ZipLock bag of leftover spaghetti after reading some of these reviews. First, I saw someone complaining that the ground isn't grassy or turfy enough, and although my dog has never seemed to have an issue with dirt, wood chips, or any other surface that isn't shards of glass, I suddenly thought, "Perhaps she does deserve soft, cool grass between her toes...Is ParkGrounds right for my dog if there's no soft, cool grass? And will some dirty dog try to hump her on the dirty dirt ground? She is quite beautiful..." And then there was the food issue. I can appreciate that the ParkGrounds is a cafe and dog park all in one, but I rather enjoy eating my own spaghetti and like to bring it to every restaurant I frequent. Even the Olive Garden, whose spaghetti is frankly too bland, just as it is in Italy. But this is a review of the ParkGrounds. If I can't bring my own spaghetti to their cafe - if I must be forced to order a sandwich or something un-pasta off the menu - is this the place for me? (Granted, the Olive Garden doesn't allow me to bring my own spaghetti, either...I sneak it in and eat it in the bathroom stall while I'm waiting for my second serving of bread sticks.) Because some other reviewers did seem to enjoy the ParkGrounds, I decided to give it a try. I left my spaghetti at home, massaged my dogs toes because I suddenly knew how precious they are, and dove in. I loved the atmosphere. Relaxed and comfortable with a friendly staff. The turkey guacamole sandwich was delicious! My only complaint (and that's why four stars instead of five) would be that they don't allow the dogs inside to play where people are eating. The food is average at best, the main wow factor was the fact you could eat in the patio and let the dogs play. I liked it more before y'all remodeled it, there is no point into going with your dog when you can't even let the dog run around, I mean how is someone who has a dog supposed to go inside now and order something WHEN YOU HAVE A DOG WITH YOU cause they don't let dogs in and there is no outside waitresses so figure that one out if you go alone :/ I get that some people had problems with trying to eat while being outside of the patio but this move was not it at all. There is so many better restaurants and cafes in atlanta that are dog friendly with better food and alcoholic drinks to choose from. it's now just become a regular cafe with average food in atlanta, it's def lost its spark :/ read more

My girlfriend loved going to ParkGrounds for the past year. She loves the atmosphere, she loves getting coffee and sitting outside. It was close enough for us to walk to and we always had a good experience. She recently learned she has celiac (can't eat gluten) and was devastated she couldn't drink beer or eat pizza or pancakes. If the gluten wasn't damaging her insides, she'd be eating it all the time. But she can't. There are so many people these days that ask for gluten-free food that don't actually need it because it's either their latest diet fad or they "have an allergy". So whenever my girlfriend asks for gluten free options somewhere she'll get rude responses from servers because of the stigma. ParkGrounds is no different. My girlfriend called and asked if there were any options, and she could hear the girl that answered the phone scoff when she turned around to ask. And heard "just tell her no" in the background before the girl answered and said no. It's not that they don't have any options. That's fine. Lots of places don't. But at least exhibit decent customer service when talking to a customer. I guess ParkGrounds is confident that all the vegan customers they cater to, who are vegans BY CHOICE, will keep them in business. We won't be back. read more
