The vegetarian sandwich was spectacular, well thought out. The coffee was okay. Not bad but nothing great either. There's no indoor seating but cute benches outside. However since it was packed it was hard to find a spot. Also felt like the staff were pretty overwhelmed by the crowd.

ACADEMY COFFEE SCHOOLED ME | ever since they moved to Virginia Highlands, I didn't visit until the end of 2022. I still remember at their first location, their menu included the surprise me option for a custom order beverage, which was fun, although a hit or miss if you were too vague with what you liked or didn't like. I'm glad to see they still offer it, although not available on weekends anymore. The PSL must die is as delicious as it is hilarious. I'll have to be honest, I am a PSL drinker but if only the PSL tasted like THIS, I would be drinking these every day. Super creamy and smooth without the overwhelming pumpkin spice flavor that attacks the coffee scene every fall. The Silver Bullet is a more subtle fall drink, but perfect if you're iced a year round iced coffee drinker like me. The apple sesame bourbon syrup is also interesting without being in your face FALL. Academy Coffee isn't your typical coffee shop - their seasonal menu changes make it fun to explore different drinks every visit. And the quality of the coffee and baristas are top notch. I was a little disappointed by how standoffish the baristas were but the coffee makes up for it!

I don't know if they have a MICHELIN Star but they should. In one word, quality. The coffee here is top tier. When they offer their seasonal drinks they don't just throw one or two syrups together. The drinks are intricate and you can tell it wasn't just thrown together. If you enjoy great coffee this should be your go-to coffee shop.

How come I'm just finding out about this place??! Located in the heart of VaHi, Academy Coffee shares a unique space with a butcher shop and local provisions store. Very easy to miss, to be honest. Once we found it, I was happy to see a drink menu as eclectic as the neighborhood that houses it. My husband ordered a Boots and Cats which is a gold beet and rosemary syrup latter. I ordered the Multiplex (upgraded to a latte) which includes a brown butter popcorn syrup. Maaaaan! Those drinks were sooooo smooth! Perfect ratio of syrup to milk to espresso. Just *chef's kiss*. The drinks are definitely on the pricier side, starting around $7, but very much worth it if you desire well executed coffee creations. No wonder the place was packed! Adding Academy to my favorite coffee shops in Atlanta list. The only thing that's missing is seating. Otherwise, it could dethrone my current faves.

First time in and I'll be back if I'm in the highlands! Sandwich menu looks great and everyone seated outside had one and a cup of coffee. On top of having great coffee they boast a full butcher selection with all kind of meats, cheeses, wine and even had caviar. The ambiance is clean and straightforward. Service was fast and very friendly- even mentioned the wine flights they do on Tuesdays (guess where I'll be Tuesday lol)! Thanks academy, y'all are amazing!

I can't believe I have been in Atl and live near Ava highland enough and haven't checked out this cafe. They have a great curated coffee and tea mocktail-ish drinks That are pretty unique. Also it's located with kinship butcher shop so you can also grab bfast or lunch too. They have minimal seating inside but outdoor seating on the sidewalk is great to watch the world go by. Will definitely revisit

For the amount of time I have loved exploring Virginia Highland, I am shocked that I had not yet been to this establishment. I came here on Sunday morning to have a recovery brunch after a fun Saturday night out. I was not surprised to see many people coming and going inside, as people generally enjoy doing on Sunday mornings. I investigated the menu, which is not long but has amazing options. Not kidding, I couldn't decide whether to get a breakfast sandwich (breakfast menu 8a-5p) or one of the lunch ones (11a-5p). I settled on the Poultrygeist per the staff member's recommendation. For the coffee, I got the Coco Loco also based on her recommendation that it is their most popular. Both the coffee and the sandwich were heavenly. The chicken salad was not dry and had a taste that I would find hard to disagree with. The bacon was crispy, the arugula fresh. It's a great place to people watch as well. What a beautiful start to my day!

What a fun neighborhood coffee shop! The specials here are so unique, I had a hard time picking just one - so I didn't! I ended up trying the Figaro (a cortado with smoked fig and cacao) and the PSL Must Die (a latte with plantain and amaretto caramel). Wow, both were packed with flavor and perfectly balanced with the espresso. Plus, they were served at the ideal temperature, making each sip a delight. The staff was also incredibly kind and welcoming, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. Definitely a spot worth visiting!

Very minimalist, modern, and pared down coffee spot! I would never have thought to order their breakfast sandwich, but my wife and her best friend HIGHLY recommended. I got the vegan patty and it was SO good! So flavorful! It was a soft, buttery bun and a red/pink patty. It wasn't crispy but every bite was SO full of flavor (no extra condiments needed). It was luxurious and such a treat for a lover of savory foods! They make a much better (and more unique) latte than Perc down the street. If you're looking for a specialty coffee drink, I would recommend Academy.

A coffee shop that gives you that hipster cool and your friendly community/neighborhood coffee place feels at the same time. Simple menu. Would recommend the hot latte that's strong, smooth and finished clean and beautifully. The cold brew is average but glad that it's on the menu.

You will not be disappointed! They have samples for first timers so you get to see what you're getting into! The bartender who served me was an absolute delight! She was so helpful and informative! From 1 star to a 4 star experience!…read more This was a unique experience that started off odd, went to horrible, but was saved! Backdrop: My partner and I were in town for a photographing event and stopped here due to my affefor botanicals. Service...started off absolutely horrible! We walked in a grabbed a high top in the bar area. The tender (that resembled Ms Badu) was more interested in her friend and boyfriend than serving us. After the lack of acknowledgement I went and stood at the bar, for about 5 minutes. Finally, a look (of disdain), but nothing more. I went back to my partner. We discussed leaving. I walked back to the bar, after approximately 20 minutes after entering this establishment she finally decided we weren't leaving at took out order. After seeing a shift change, we decided to stay and order food. Beyond was the new rep for the business and this he was the best person for saving this from a 1 star review! There was the appearance that he genuinely cared for his customers. We weren't special, he treated everyone with the same upbeat courtesy! "Beyond", and, what I presumed was the owner saved the experience/vibe . Overall this a unique venue, as it's the only kava bar that actually serves food. Though I was a participant, there appears to be special theatrical events upstairs. The restaurant and bar is separated if this is important to one's experience. There are plenty of board games, if this maybe your thing. Food: Good, portions a bit small for price, for the type of food - 4 stars Beyond (staff) - 5 stars! Food server was amazingly courteous. Gave off owner vibes - 5 stars! Botanicals (quality) - 3 stars Kava - 4 stars Parking: paid if you don't want to hike in the heat! 3 stars Beyond should be the metric for all future hires! "Ms. Badu" should be removed from the lineup, as her attitude is like a hole in the hull!

Thus shop is doing all things right!…read more Let's start with how we got here ! A friend sent me a picture of a Tik Tok picture featuring an ube latte! I responded with - when are we going? We decided we would wait until the weekend since we would have to drive from Cobb county to the city. I started doing some research and did not see ube latte on the menu. I called the phone number listed on yelp- but it appears it is just a cell number and went directly to voicemail. I went to the website and found an email address. I sent a basic question/ do you have an Ube latte on your menu? To my surprise I received a response! This simple response was exhibit A that they don't play about customer service On Saturday morning I arrived to the shop around 11am! The coffee shop is a neighborhood spot! As such, you will just have to find street parking in the neighborhood. I ended up parking a block away. This place was crowded! I did have to wait in a line. However, I enjoyed checking out the item for sale while waiting in line. The book titles had me laughing , this is your go to spot for a unique gift! We ended up ordering the following: 1. Hot Matcha latte with ube and oat milk 2. Hot ube latte with oat milk 3. Cheese danish NOTE: I did confirm that the matcha they use is NOT pre- sweetened. This is a huge plus in my book!! The item came out quickly. All items weee served in to go containers. I am not sure if this is just standard practice even if you are dining in. We were able to grab a table outside! However, this place was crowded and open seating was limited! My matcha was AMAZING! It was not too sweet, which is how I like my matcha. The cheese danish was also delightful. My friend said she enjoyed her latte too. I will note that I did not taste the Ube flavor. This coffee shop is a vibe, but also serves yo tasty drinks and treats! I would highly recommend checking this spot out !
