PARKatlanta illegally parked in handicap by Grady, so they can walk around the Georgia State University area to issue tickets.
    Janos J.

PARKatlanta is exactly what you get when a company is given way too much power. Anyone who has experienced this company will probably agree that they are way too aggressive. Read anywhere and you will find lots of people who have received a ticket for a broken meter and were ticketed within a few minutes. Mayor Kasim Reed even wants to switch over and allow the city to do the work. The truth is PARKatlanta is a outside corporation that makes a killing off issuing cations and what is interesting is the company behind PARK Atlanta does not do enforcement in any other state/city, ONLY in Atlanta. PARK Atlanta is run by Duncan Solutions, which is in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Though for business reasons, they have it held under Professional Account Management, LLC. Duncan Solutions main focus is in making parking meters. Park Atlanta pays the city of Atlanta at least $5 million a year. Back in 2012, Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall was telling news reporters from WSB-TV that with all the complaints and resources that the city and his office uses to handle all the issues, it actually cost more than $8 million. Here is an article about PARKatlanta writing fraudulent tickets http://www.cbs46.com/story/16902361/parkatlanta-writing-fraudulent-tickets All we can do is HOPE that PARK Atlanta's contract expires in 2016!!!!

I think I've figured out why everyone in town is so upset with this company and our newly installed parking meters... they're really good at their job and we're not used to stuff like that. Trash pick-up is done by about a dozen or so people and they only work once a week. No one can seem to figure out anyone's water bill and even begging won't get them to dispatch someone to your property. Are you trying to tell me that not only do I have to pay to park on a city street, but if I don't someone is going to write me a ticket?! YEAH RIGHT! This is Atlanta. We don't pay to park on the street. I once left my car parked in front of a meter on 11th St. and forgot about it for almost 3 days. I remembered where I left it when I woke up for work on Monday and it was still there. No tickets. No boot. No big deal. Believe it or not, I normally don't disregard parking meters... even when I knew no one was looking. Being righteous became really frustrating when I didn't have any change, so I definitely appreciate all of the new credit card and cash meters that have been installed. It makes doing the right thing easier. Unfortunately, there are several streets in Buckhead with coin meters and earlier this week I found myself driving around in circles trying to park for the Elite Holiday Event. There were lots of spaces available, but I didn't have any change. I ended up stopping by a gas station to trade three one dollar bills for 12 not so shiny quarters. I parked at 6:53, deposited my coins, and proudly walked up to Fado knowing that I paid for more than enough time ($3 = 1.5 hours). I knew my meter would expire a few minutes before the party ended at 8:30, so I put on my coat around 8:15 and said my good-byes. I remember being really proud of myself for leaving early to fulfill my parking obligation... the feeling was short-lived as was greeted by a red, black, and white piece of paper from Officer Phillip when I got to my car. Despite having all the best intentions, I was late. My meter expired at 8:23 and I was ticketed at 8:28. DAMN! How in the hell did they catch that so quickly?! Oh, these meters have sensors to detect violators wirelessly. Kudos to PARKatlanta for being really good at their job. Maybe one day they can teach Atlanta Watershed Management how to electronically read their meters too. That would be great.

We were in an out in 45 minutes. First the spoiler: my sweetie and I are getting married! We filled out the marriage license application in advance, printed it and brought it with us. You can make an appointment, but t=none available so we just just turned up. We found street parking about a block away. Security protocols were efficient. We waited about 15 minutes and everything was done in maybe 15 minutes. Kudos to Ms. Mathis, the customer service representative, and the cashier, Mr. Rosser. Both were super efficient, courteous and very nice. And both congratulated us. We left with the marriage license for the judge who will officiate at our wedding. She signs it after the ceremony and mails it to the Fulton County License Office. They then record the marriage and send us the signed, sealed marriage certificate. So here's the weird, only-in-Georgia part of the experience. You apply for marriage licenses and permits to carry a concealed weapon at the same office. I guess you could even apply for both at the same time -- if you were so inclined.

The truth is, the line was so long when we arrived that by the time we got to the security screening, we were right on time. So I would recommend arriving at least 15-20 mins before. Security was pleasant and tried their best to be as efficient as possible. Please also note, you cannot bring any bags or purses inside. They will make you leave and return the items to your car. After we got through security, everything else was smooth. My family member passed his knowledge test (yay!), and was directed to return in two weeks for his oath ceremony. We returned for the ceremony, which was honestly a bit lackluster considering all of the things people go through to become citizens of this country. It's kind of like they're just herding cattle to churn people through the system. At this point, my family member didn't really care and was just excited for everything to be over with. I think as long as you follow instructions provided by the national USCIS office, your time spent here will be fine.

For a government experience, I'd say it was good. I received an official jury summons in the physical mail from Fulton County Courts' Jury Services Division about three weeks before my service date in February 2025. At 3:37pm the day before my service date, I received email and text confirmations that I did indeed have to report for jury duty. The previous time I was summoned by Fulton County was in October 2017. By 5:20pm the day before my service date, I found out I didn't have to go. The juror web portal says you will find out after 7:00pm the day before your service date whether you have to report or not. However, I found out a few hours before 7:00pm, as you can see from my examples above. Log in and fill out the juror questionnaire on the website ahead of time, as directed in your mailing. That's where you can sign up for email and text alerts. I received a parking permit for the Red and Yellow Lots located at 593 Central Ave SW, Atlanta, GA 30312. These are ungated surface lots. From there, a free shuttle bus took jurors from the parking lots to the Justice Center Tower (JCT building). My summons says the service time was 8:30am. I arrived at the Yellow Lot around 8:20am, boarded the shuttle, and it left around 8:30am. I parked with a wave of people arriving around the same time. I saw another bus pull up behind ours and overheard a driver say that bus was leaving at 8:45am. Parking was a bit weird because there was an unmarked vehicle with a driver directing traffic, using hand signals and body language, from within the vehicle. Maybe they stayed inside their vehicle because it was raining at the time. For me, there was no way to know they were a Fulton County official and it was unclear to me exactly what they were doing / trying to communicate to me. It was a quick bus ride to the JCT building. We were dropped off in front and had to cross the street. We entered the J1 Tower, clearly marked. Once inside, we went through security. I brought my backpack, laptop, hot coffee, iced water (metal tumblers are OK), and food (Soylent) just in case I was stuck in court all day. Security went smoothly. From there, we took elevators up to the 7th floor, followed the signs to the Jury Assembly Room, and checked in. There were three or four employees checking jurors in. All I needed to check in was my Juror Badge (mailer) and ID. I took a Fulton County Juror sticker, stuck it on my pullover, and sat down. The check-in process was efficient. I waited in line for only a couple minutes tops. Upon check-in, I received a MasterCard debit card which is how the $25 juror per diem is paid. The debit card was administered by "CourtFunds powered by Rapid Financial Solutions." "Please allow 21-30 business days after the last date of service for funds to be added to your payment card." The Jury Assembly Room was quite big. It looked like there were a few different sub-rooms. One of the employees called one of the sub-rooms a "lounge." It looked like a break room. I saw vending machines outside the lounge. I sat in the main central seating area which had a decent view of the Georgia State Capitol (gold dome building). There were already lots of people seated, but still plenty of room to spread out. Shortly after I sat down, we were asked to turn our attention to one of the TVs and watch two instructional videos. After that, employees took the stand at the center of the main area, called out people's names and either assigned them a juror number or dismissed them. Regardless if you were assigned a number or not, you had to state "Here" in front of everyone, for the record. I ultimately was dismissed. If you needed a note for work (I did), you reentered the check-in line and "authorized court personnel" would take care of it by completing and signing a "Statement of Jury Services." The lady who signed my Statement was very nice and friendly. While waiting in the Jury Assembly Room, I connected to the "FULTON COUNTY PUBLIC" Wi-Fi network. I did an internet speed test and got about 11 Mbps upload and download with 15 ms latency. According to Google, these speeds "should be able to handle streaming an HD video." We left the way we came. The shuttle picked us up in the same spot. It was still raining so we waited under cover at the JCT building, then scurried across the street after the shuttle arrived. Going to and from, I noticed the shuttle served more than just jurors. It picked up and dropped off Downtown Atlanta government employees as well. In addition to the Red and Yellow Lots, the shuttle could make stops at Silver Lots 2 and 3 (overflow parking) and perhaps other lots. The shuttle, Jury Assembly Room, and men's room (I used the one on the 7th floor in the J2 Tower) were clean.
