In response to the owners comment on my last review:…read more It's interesting to be labeled a "toxic individual" simply because I shared a negative customer service experience. That says far more about how criticism is handled than it does about me. I've read the reviews, and it's clear I'm far from the only long time customer who has had issues with the customer service. The food has never been my complaint, that's why I kept coming back for years. The service is what earns the low rating. As for the Apple Pay issue, there was no sign visible at the register where I was standing. After the cashier made such a scene, I intentionally looked around and only then noticed a handwritten sign in front of the other register, blocked by the family standing there. Meanwhile, the payment terminal itself prompted me to use Apple Pay, so naturally I assumed it was accepted. My issue was never that Apple Pay wasn't accepted. Businesses are free to choose whatever payment methods they want. My issue was being loudly scolded in front of other customers over what was clearly an honest mistake. A simple, "I'm sorry, our terminal still displays that option, but we don't accept Apple Pay. I'll refund it for you," would have resolved the situation in 30 seconds. You mentioned I should have spoken to the manager, but the cashier told me she was speaking to the manager and was on the phone with them regarding this "big issue" I created. What stands out most is that, rather than acknowledging how the situation could have been handled better, you chose to attack the customer who left feedback. Accountability goes a long way in customer service. After supporting this bakery since it opened, I've decided to take my business elsewhere. That's unfortunate, because the pastries were never the problem, the experience was.

When we went to this restaurant a few weeks ago, it had the name Makondo, not Pantojarse…read more The environment in Makondo was welcoming and warm, with a mural of los cafeteros that immediately lets you know you're in Colombia. There is a take-away area at the front where you can purchase breads, arepas, and other easily portable foods, in addition to the tables and seating area in the back of the restaurant. We opted to dine-in for breakfast and try a variety of plates: calentado, arepa con chicharron, morcilla, and bunuelos. The calentado transported me back to Medellin and, honestly, it kept me full for the entire day. The morchilla, arepas, and chicharrones were cooked to perfection and we were provided with a variety of sauces to add an extra boost of flavor. Absolutely everything was delicious and the prices are incredibly reasonable when compared with the other breakfast restaurants in the area. The service was very friendly and attentive. Most of the clients spoke Spanish, including us, but we did hear them speaking English with a few tables that morning. This restaurant is a little piece of Colombia in White Plains and brings some much needed diversity (and flavor!) to the regular breakfast scene in this city.
