I love it here. It's my go to bakery. You can find any baked good you're looking for here. I love their pies, cookies, bread, cannolis, chocolate mousse balls, etc. I love stopping here before events to bring an array of treats to any party. I've come here for cookies before holidays, birthdays, etc. and everyone always loves what I bring. I have another event this weekend that I'm bringing cookies too. I can't wait to eat them! The staff is very friendly and helpful too; they give great recommendations if you're stuck on what you are looking for too. They always plan ahead for holidays and make extra pies and cookies. Every time I come here I'm disappointed. The crumb cake I had was dry. The bread I asked for, wasn't even made in the shop. I am sad there is no local bakery I can to to, but honestly costco makes better bread than this place. I understand we live in a time of dying small business and I wish I could write a good review, but I just can't. On the plus side the people are very friendly and perhaps they have good pastries? Ugh I miss this place. I used to live in the area and work in the office building next door and it was the perfect place to stop by for a quick treat at any time of the day. I don't like nuts, but I tried an almond croissant one day at the recommendation of my boss, and my life was literally changed. It had the perfect amount of flavor and moistness. Decent cash-only neighborhood bakery with a great selection of butter cookies, breads, challah, and cakes. It's very low-key but almost everything is good and the prices are very reasonable. Some must-try's: 1. CHALLAH! Great for french toast with the perfect density and softness. $5 a loaf. 2. Apple crumb cake: $5 for a loaf of sweet bread with a good balance of apple, cinnamon, and brown sugar. 3. Cinnamon bread: Very solid version of a classic. Soft and perfectly sweet without going overboard. $3.50 4. Mocha cake: $20 for a beautifully decorated coffee cake with silky buttercream frosting. The cake itself was a bit dry and SUPER sweet but tasted fine with the frosting. The frosting is amazing and makes up for the actual cake. 5. Cupcakes: Solid with a slightly dry cake that is more airy than a standard cupcake. It's not really a cupcake in the classic sense but the whipped icing is fluffy and light and you can't find a better treat at $1.50. 6. Butter cookies: A very good selection at $17.99/lb. I love the chocolated dipped and the sprinkled butter. 7. Donuts: $1.75 each. These are HUGE and solid - but I would say that these are their forte. They will satisfy a glazed or crueller craving but I would stick to the cookies by the pound or breads. Overall, a good option in White Plains and worth a visit. read more

I've passed this bakery a few times and decided to stop by today. I ordered a brownie and an Italian cookie. The brownie was very soft and fudgy, not the consistency of a brownie, and the walnut topping tasted stale. The frosting on the Italian cookie tasted fine but the cookie itself was bland. I generally love this place and come here often for the eclairs. However, I recently had a disappointing experience when I was charged $3 for a small eclair (usually two dollars), when the large one (double in size) is ALSO $3. Call me finicky, but it's unreasonable for the price to be the same, and if you're ordering a large amount, you end up being overcharged ten dollars and there's nothing the workers can do about it. The employees are great, the eclairs are great, but the owners seriously need to figure out their pricing. The only reason I give WPBS a 5 Star rating is because of their Sfogliatelle. Italians are snobs when it comes to this confection. The filling has to be just so and the filo needs to crunch and stay that way longer than a day, etc., etc.. If you're Italian you know what I mean. It's my understanding there is only one supplier in our area for this fading, delicious dessert. Surrounding bake shops, including WPBS, buy them frozen and prepare them in house to sell as their own. According to the owner when you start out with a quality frozen Sfogliatella the quality of their taste and consistency is all in how they are prepared. I've loved this dessert since childhood. It and the conversation surrounding its quality have been a staple during many holiday celebrations. Every time I present this dessert, purchased from WPBS, everyone states they are the best they have had in the longest time. If it's true that there is only one supplier, and who am I to question it, then WPBS absolutely prepares them better than any other place in Westchester and probably the Bronx. Uh oh! The White Plains Bakery makes the absolute best St. Joseph's Pastries. They are only available around March 19th but they are delicious. Two types, one with cannoli cream and one with a vanilla cream. They also make the best ever Sarah Berhardt chocolate cookies. They have a creamy chocolate filling. Most of their cookies are excellent but these are the best. Great care is taken to use the finest ingredients in their baking is obvious.
