Ok y'all - I really should've written this review years ago. La Tulipe is a MUST if you're in the area and looking for a sweat treat! Everything is absolutely delicious and they have plenty of options for those with dietary restrictions. Plus, everyone who works there is so sweet and helpful. They really treat you like family! My family decided to place an order for a Yule log and a few other treats for new years. Normally, you'd need to order this well in advance, and since we ordered just days before, we weren't expecting any availability. It's a beautiful little pastry shop tucked in a side of Mount Kisco I'm rarely ever driving by. I came by one day just to see what kind of desserts they had. I was really impressed by their individual desserts and the variety of croissants they had. As you can see from the photos, every dessert was beautifully crafted, and with such care to the chocolate to achieve that glassy sheen. They had so many different croissants available on a weekday afternoon (plain, pain au chocolat, ham and cheese, almond) and even more available on the weekends. My birthday was this past week, and my team at work really spoiled me by showering me with sweets - the carbs were real. One of the baked goods on the parade of desserts was a cake from here at La Tulipe - one of my colleagues lives in the area and picked up a cake. I had never heard of this place before, but quickly learned that it's ranked among one of the best bakeries in Westchester. That being said, I was excited to try some of their goods. La Tulipe is the product of Chef Maarten Steenman and his wife Frances. Together, they operate this small bakery that churns out a variety of baked goods. I was browsing the menu and noticed a large number of cakes, breakfast items, cookies, chocolates, and gelato. Cake was the obvious choice to mark the occasion, and my colleague bought us back their symphony cake for all of us to have. Everything on their menu looked exquisite, and the Symphony Cake was no exception. The cake consisted of dark chocolate and hazelnut mousses and a layer of sponge. It was all topped with a shiny mirror glaze and candied nuts. Usually I'm not a fan of cakes were half of the filling is mousse (it's a texture thing), but I must say this cake was delicious. The mousse had great flavor with good consistency - and it was surprisingly light. The sponge was also good, and that mirror glaze with the candied nuts were the perfect finishing touches. It looked and tasted high-end, and I totally understand all the high reviews here. Overall, I was super impressed with my La Tulipe's Symphony Cake. This place isn't too far from where I live, so I really think a trip here to explore more of their goods is worth it. read more

I wish I had a better experience. The place is very small. Cute, quaint, and you can easily drive by it if you don't pay attention. Be careful when driving in if you have a larger vehicle (I have a truck). The driveway is very tight and narrow, and the back parking lot is small to turn around in. When you walk in, you are overcome by the amazing smells of freshly baked pastries. They have a display case of some beautifully prepared desserts. I ordered two boxes of assorted pastries and a box of macarons. The croissants are delicious. Not the best I've ever had, but they were very good. Crispy exterior, buttery flaky goodness on the inside. The macarons I wish were better. I'm used to a more chewy exterior and not as buttery inside. These were also a lot larger than a typical macaron. Lastly, these pastries were a lot pricier than I anticipated. I spent $125 for everything. I knew about this place's existence for a while but it wasn't until a recent trip to Paris where I completely lost my shit over French everything that I felt compelled to go. I was in a bad mood about a post office related matter across the street and it was the perfect time to lift my spirits with croissants and macarons. The place is kinda small but there is parking in the back. I will agree with a fellow reviewer that "the selection is somewhat lacking". I was hoping to see eclairs, paris brest, and other traditional paris pastries but I was aggressively reminded that I was still in the middle of Mt. Kisco. They did have stunning cakes and what appeared to be homemade chocolates. They offer many flavors of macarons and you can be sure I took advantage of that. We ordered a variety of their flavors, I believe we ordered 8. They were very good from a taste standpoint but the very inside seemed a touch too raw. It didn't kill me, which is appreciated, but more of a texture issue. Did I mention I was just in Paris? Perhaps eating some of the best macarons in the world has inflated my expectations. We also ordered a muffin which was moist and delicious. I couldn't leave without getting a chocolate croissant which was fantastic and very much enjoyed. I will also agree with the other reviewer that the service "was perfunctory". Asked about crossiants that seemed to be sold out as none were on the shelves. She offered to sell us three crossiants. On the surface they looked decent but were stale when biting into them. However, there was no disclosure that they were stale old crossiants. To top it off they weren't even wrapped in wax paper just loose in the bag without napkins too. Used to be a loyal customer for years. Never again. Definitely felt this had discriminatory motivations considering I was speaking in Spanish with my elderly father determining what to buy. However, it was the lack of wax paper that disgusted me the most. Like I need to monitor you do your job properly and pick it up with not only gloves but wax paper? And, the fact that she didn't even offer napkins like she usually does. It was unnerving. I didn't notice until I was in my car otherwise I would've complained in person. read more

I visited La Tulipe yesterday based on a recommendation from a friend. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to desserts/pastries LOL, but this is definitely a place I would go back to. The desserts inside the cases were beautiful and perfectly decorated. Like another reviewer stated - they really do look like a work of art! I wanted to try one of everything, but unfortunately that wasn't in the budget lol. Here is what I did try and my thoughts on each: - The chocolate macaroon was the MOST DELICIOUS macaroon I have ever had in my life. The inside tasted like a brownie! I would go back and buy an entire box of these (and just might in the future)! - The pistachio macaroon was just ok. The middle cream was lacking pistachio flavor. It tasted kinda like cream cheese honestly. The outside part of the macaroon was tasty but again, not amazing. I would probably skip this one next time. - The almond croissant was pretty good. The outside was flaky and glazed and was my favorite part. The inside was moist and semi-dense which was interesting for a croissant. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't the best almond croissant I've ever had. I would definitely buy it again though. - The chocolate croissants are beautiful to look at! The chocolate striping is perfection. Inside of the croissant are chunks of chocolate. I bought these for my husband and kids and they all agreed they were good but they weren't necessarily the best they've ever had. - The last item I tried were the butter sea salt caramel chocolate dipped cookies. They are made with two thin butter cookies with sea salt caramel in the middle and then half of the cookie is dipped in dark chocolate. I had high hopes for these because I love sea salt caramel and dark chocolate together. I was unfortunately disappointed in these though. The butter cookies were okay, but the sea salt caramel wasn't very flavorful. To me the butter cookie flavor didn't go well with their chocolate and sea salt caramel. The cookies in my opinion were just meh, and I would probably not buy them again. No on to the experience of shopping at La Tulipe: This bakery is small inside. There are no prices listed anywhere and minimal signage about what is inside of the desserts. Several people walked in shortly after us and I felt bad asking questions about what each of the items were or what the pricing was because I didn't want to hold up the line and there was only one person tending to customers. I think I would have ordered more if I didn't have to ask for prices or ask what was inside some of the delicious looking personal sized cakes/desserts. Pricing wasn't too bad considering this is an upscale bakery. I believe the macaroons were $2.75/each, the croissants were $5.50 (and they are pretty good size), and the bag of cookies I got was $15 for 5 cookies. Overall I was pleased with most of the items we got. I would like to go back to try some of the individual sized cakes. read more

Everything we've gotten here has always been top notch. It's really a gem of a bakery and we go there every chance we have.

What beautiful works of art they create at this charming French bakery. We got there after 12 pm and unfortunately were not able to try the chocolate croissants as they were sold out. Their baguette was perfectly crisp even though it had been tightly wrapped in plastic cling wrap (post covid rule I'm sure). We tried their mini opera cake, a lemon and hazelnut tarte and another chocolate raspberry item. Each was decadent and rich. I'm looking forward to trying some of their other impressive items in the future when I can get there earlier in the day. read more

Not what I expected. The parking situation is ... interesting. As we were pulling out another car was pulling in. The other car backed up into the middle of a main road while other cars were driving... Just seems dangerous. The place is tiny but the desserts inside were very pretty, we purchased some macarons that looked very appetizing. Once in the car we realized that they had been chilled which gave them a weird consistency and ruined the delicate crispy shell a macaron should have. We did try the ginger gelato before leaving and that was very different. Something I would probably order if we were to return, but I'd definitely skip the cold macarons. read more

Just? Speechless on the Quality, attention to Detail & Flavors, in ALL of this Mount Kisco Gems Dessert Mecca!!

The NYT praised La Tulipe's gelato a few weeks back, so I knew I'd end up here sooner or later. La Tulipe is located in a very nondescript, run down building, but once we entered from the dreary rain we were transported to a sleek patisserie filled with cookies, cakes, pastries, and gelato. The lovely woman at the counter was exceedingly patient with us as we oohed and ahhed over the precious confections. The brioche caught M's eye, but I immediately gravitated toward the macarons, available in 7 varieties. But, first things first-- gelato! This is a recent addition to La Tulipe, and the flavors I tried (pistachio and gianduia, my usual benchmarks) were deep and intense. The gelato is dense and creamy (see the Times article I link below for details). I took one of each macaron home-- a steal at $21/pound or about 75 cents each. So far I tried the pale pink raspberry (filled, I think, with their own tart preserves), the blood orange (a shocking red, also quite tart), hazelnut (the mellowest, and mushiest, of the bunch), and the cafe (extremely intense coffee flavor). Will report back with the other flavors... The chocolate chunk cookie was silver dollar sized, fresh baked with still-melty chunks inside. The Romeo, a crisp buttery almond cookie, and all their cookies, cakes, and pastries in general, are gorgeous. Can't wait to try more... Update: I tried the chocolate, lemon, and caramel macarons. Lemon was a sunny yellow hue, with a tart inside (much like the raspberry and blood orange). The caramel was filled with gooey caramel and cream-- amazing. But, the clear winner for this chocoholic is the chocolate, which is filled with such a dense, chocolatey filling that it feels like you are biting into a baby fudgey brownie surrounded by a cloud of more chocolate. The filling is THAT rich.
