March 2026 My friend actually told me about her positive experience with a hydra facial from Pariser & I wanted to give it a try too! I schedules a hydra-facial with Pariser about 4 weeks out due to limited availability. The VB office said they would charge a $50 consultation before the facial but this Kempsville location thankfully did not! I easily found parking but was worried I was at the wrong place after exiting my car. There was no signage for where the office was located . Nonetheless, I decided to check inside and since it said suite 200, I assumed it was in the second floor. I took the stairs to the second floor and thankfully saw the entrance to the office. Again not well marked until you're actually inside the office. I checked in for my appointment and only waited for a few mins before being called back. Kyla introduced herself as my aesthetician! She was so warm, kind, & gentle spoken. She did a phenomenal job & let me know what I had to look forward to with the facial and as she was starting each step. She also took great care to ensure I was comfortable & that the settings weren't too strong or uncomfortable. The room played soft ambiance music. Kyla also walked me through what the next few days look like for my face & how to best protect it. Overall, I think Kyla made this a wonderful first time hydra-facial. She's so talented & friendly. This review is for Pariser's Surgery department. After my Dermatologist burned off a suspicious bump on my hand, it returned even larger. At my next visit she cut it off for biopsy. To my dismay the result came back as "at least Squamous Cell Carcinoma possibly invasive." I was referred to Dr. James Bota in their surgical department for MOHS surgery. At previous visits I had seen the door labeled Surgery but had no idea it was such a large department. Arriving promptly at 7:15am (uggg...) with my son, who had come down for the surgery, I was promptly taken behind the locked door to the Surgical Department. It was a large well equipped department with comfortable private surgical rooms. Dr. Bota first came in with a Surgical Assistant to inspect & mark the surgical area. The Assistant remained to numb my hand. When Dr. Bota returned I mentioned that I had seen on his bio that he had gone to Emory University. I told him I had lived in Atlanta for 15 years. He asked what area. It was then that we learned he had grown up in the same area of our last house before moving to Virginia. He had even been born at the same hospital as my son. Our conversation was so interesting & my hand was so numb that he finished the surgery while we were chatting without my knowing he had begun. The wait for the biopsy then began. My son & I were able to wait in the surgical room. The surgical chair was comfortable and my feet were up. So the wait was not the uncomfortable timeI had anticipated. When the surgeon's team returned they told me that they had gotten the cancer but found precancerous cells in the skin surrounding it. I would have to use chemotherapy cream once the stitches were out. The surgical assistant prepped my hand for closing, the PA did the stitches. The surgical assistant performed the dressing & gave us instructions as to redressing and caring for the wound. As I had read in the Pre Op instructions there was nerve damage. It has been strange to have pain in areas of my fingers that weren't a part of the surgical area. I'm very impressed with the efficiency of both Dr. Bota and his surgical staff. The Pre Op & Post Op instructions were thorough and complete, I really don't want to have to go through skin cancer surgery again. But should it be necessary, I would certainly want to be treated by Dr. Bota and his team. Dr. Belote is insensitive and curt. She cut me off with a blunt diagnosis as I was describing my issue. She quickly explained the process to have a prescription filled for a cream, made a point to tell me it only has a temporary effect, and then ended the appointment. She never even examined my skin. She never left her chair across the room from me. The diagnosis was hard to take (it's an incurable and progressive condition) and she wasn't remotely sympathetic. She just seemed like she was in a rush to get rid of me. She didn't take any time to explain what the diagnosis means for me or how to treat it. I think the appointment was over in 5 minutes or less. She left me feeling ugly, ashamed, alone, and hopeless. After letting the experience sink in I just feel angry. She doesn't care about her patients. See someone else. read more

New year, new review.... I've been here twice in the new year. One for a 6 month skin check and another for a PDT (photo dynamic light therapy) treatment. For both appointments I was seen on time. Nice job. I checked in via text message prior to my appointment which probably makes check in at the counter faster. For my skin check appointment, I felt that it was thorough. I had to have a spot sliced and diced for a biopsy which is never fun. I was numbed well and bandaged appropriately. I was given clear verbal instructions and scheduled my next appointment upon my departure. The PDT technician I have seen the last 2 times is great. Shout out to Lashonda! I started going to this practice around 2006 or so. I was having an issue with psoriasis so I made an appointment to have it checked out and after the exam was complete, much to my surprise, I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis. At first I told my Doctor I thought he was kidding because I had never heard of it. Unfortunately he was absolutely serious. PSA is an autoimmune disease that is now being maintained by my wonderful Rheumatologist, Dr. Michael Cannon with Arthritis Consultants of Tidewater. I still see a physician at Pariser if I have a skin issue and once a year for a checkup. Pariser Dermatology has several locations in Hampton Roads but I always try and go to the location on Kempsville Road because it's close to home. read more

If I could rate this office zero stars, I would. I had an appointment a month ago. The doctor said she would prescribe me some topical solution to use and a few days later, there was never a prescription sent to my pharmacy. I left several messages for the doctor and a week later, the prescription was sent. When I got to the pharmacy and they told me the price, I was unable to afford it and knew there were other options instead of the topical solution. I have since spoken to five or six different people asking if I could switch from the topical solution to pills and have yet to get someone to call me back or send a prescription to my pharmacy. I called again today and was put on hold. The woman never said she was putting me on hold or asked me if I could be put on hold. I sat there for ten minutes and was then hung up on. My second appointment there was with a different doctor for a different concern. I wanted to have my entire body checked out for moles and freckles. I had two spots of concern on my face and back, but was expecting the doctor to look over my entire body. The doctor spent all of two minutes looking at the two spots on my face and the mole on my back and told me I had bad genetics and that was it. I have worked in customer service for over 20 years and am flabbergasted at how incredibly unprofessional this company is. This Pariser Dematology location is near Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA. This is not my usual location as I am in Virginia Beach, so my usual location is the one on Perimeter Pkwy with Melissa Alcox. This Norfolk location appears to be the hub for this practice as a whole. My visit here was on August 4, 2023. After having my annual skin exam at my regular location, I had a cyst on the side of my head that needed to be removed, even though it was benign. It was inflaming the lymph nodes and causing the ongoing headache. I arrived here around 1 pm for my 1:30 appointment for the surgery. It took a while to be called back. It wasn't until closer to 2 pm until they called me back. They must have really been running late that day. It was a little frustrating at first to see pretty much everyone who came in after me already being seen and leaving afterwards. Once I was called back, I went into an exam room where the surgery would take place. It was one of the assistants of the doctor that brought me back. We went over the health history and such. After all of that was done, the area of the surgery was numbed. After giving time for the numbing agent to take effect, Dr. Lawrence Chang came in to do the procedure. Within a minute or two, he was done and the cease and de-cyst order was carried out. After that, the post-op instructions were given and to contact them if any issues arise. No return appointment was needed as the staples would disintegrate on their own when healed. In the end, after a few weeks, that was the case and had no complications during that healing process. Overall, I had a really good experience here. The overall process was quick and easy. The procedure itself didn't take as long as I was waiting in the waiting area between my appointment time and then coming back though. The staff were all friendly and caring. In the end, I would come back to this location if needed for a procedure that can't be done at my usual location in Virginia Beach. read more

I was charged $50 for a late cancellation fee, for an appt that I had to cancel the same day via text and phone call due to being ill. I didn't think it was appropriate to show up for an appt sick. I have sent 3 emails and 3 texts trying to address this, with no response. Then yesterday, when I sent the final text, I received a bill immediately thereafter for $38 for a visit yesterday. I haven't been seen there in over 6 months! The lack of customer service is appalling. read more

This place is clean, normally a short wait, super knowledgeable medically trained staff, and pleasant to get checked out. I see one of the PA's (Tina Watkins), and I think she is so great- she has a cool & calm demeanor and never talks "over my head" about my healthcare. She's removed questionable moles from my skin and suggests I go out for other more risky removals, which I appreciate her boundaries. Going to the doctorisn't what most would categorize as "fun". Especially if you have to talk about uncomfortable subjects. I'm just gonna put it out there: I had the worse case of chapped lips in the history of chapped lips lol. It had been going on for YEARS. I tried every single product known to man. Visited "another" dermatologist a few years back just to be rudely told that I'm just "getting older and the body changes" and that I basically just had to accept it. Once I started changing my eating habits and my overall lifestyle, I switched to an osteopathic doctor and she referred me to this office about deez ol' lips lol The office was easy to find, clean and modern, and the staff was over-the-top friendly!!! They efficiently took my info but with smiles and pleasant conversation! But the kicker was Dr. Belote! She was very attentive to my concerns and although she didn't disagree with what the "other" dermatologist stated, she delivered the message with more compassion, more from a "let's be aware" place versus "oh well deal with it" standpoint. Her calm demeanor and how simple she made the solution sound, I'll be honest, I was skeptical. (Thus why I wanted 3 months to make this review) But much to my surprise, her plan worked and I have not had chapped lips ONE DAY since I started!! I'm still in shock To go for years with an issue that made me feel like it was hopeless, to have it turn around in just 2 weeks (AND LASTED!!) seemed like a miracle. If you can get an appointment, you can be one of these numbers too. The same $ucce$$ful company also runs the Virginia Clinical Research Inc. which performs numerous clinical trials for Big Pharma, at those multiple locations. So they never forget to treat you like a human being, (with insurance). All of their doctors carry all the right credentials, teach at EVMS, and are considered the most affluent in their field. The company has a very polished internet presents and can afford the best office and medical equipment. If you need a chronic condition treated forever, not cured, this is the place. read more

I have been going to the Kempsville location and my co worker refer me to Dr Reed unfortunately she is so good with the patients that she is hard to get appointments but they scheduled me with Dr. Belote and she was the worse dermatologist she was dismissive she didn't look as she should for a cancer screening. Dr Robert Pariser is good; Dr David Pariser is horrible. All in all, it is hard to find a derm specialist in this area, so one has to put up with the horror of Pariser's service. I typically go to the location in Chesapeake to see Dr. Bauer but last week I came to their NORFOLK office right across from Sentara Leigh with my boyfriend to have an early stage melanoma removed from his right arm. This office decor and space is open and airy with loads of rooms for exams and in-office in-patient procedures. We were called back promptly and I was allowed to go with him into the exam room. The nurse was very friendly and went over his paperwork with him while we waited for the doctor. Dr. Chang was the physician removing his melanoma and came in quickly, introduced himself, and explained the options. He went into the likelihood of getting it all, testing, and the two procedures he could do and left it up to my boyfriend to decide. He also mentioned statistics and what medical research journals said about both and recommended for his particular issue. One procedure could be done today - with minimal numbing - while another would require it to be rescheduled and would take several hours while they tested the sample to ensure they got it all. He chose the today method as this was assumed to be a small and superficial early stage 1. He was prepped and numbed and I was allowed to be on the other side holding his hand and distracting him while the area was removed. Dr. Chang was very fast and efficient, friendly, and we made small-talk with the nurses while he was completing the procedure and stitching the area up. Upon completion he provided an after-care card with his personal cell phone number and said to please call him if there were any issues or any suspicion of infection. When I went for my first appointment, the doctor recommended a treatment for my face but said that insurance sometimes didn't pay for it. She told me that they would contact the insurance company for pre approval. I month later I got a call saying that it was approved and we set up an appointment. When I went in I again asked if the insurance company approved the treatment. I was told that I wouldn't have gotten the call back if they hadn't. Imagine my surprise a month later when a $500 bill arrived. When I called billing I was told that it was charged against my deductible but that the insurance company didn't pay anything for the treatment. When I called the insurance company they said that no one from the doctors office had contacted them other wise I would have gotten a letter stating it was approved. As a follow up, I was contacted by the office and we worked out a fair solution to the bill. When a problem occurs, it's good when the company listens and helps you with your concerns. It now appears to be a problem caused by the insurance company. read more

I have been going to Pariser for a long time for different reasons. Lately for basil cell cancer. I get a biopsy and later get a call it was cancer and someone will call me for Dr Chang to do surgery. I never get a call so I call and every time you get his answering service leave a message and don't do multiple calls . The problem is you never actually get a person when you call. I have been trying to schedule for weeks. When they do call back if I am not with my phone they leave a message but this is infrequent. The problem is when you call nobody answers the phone this goes on for weeks. If I ever have this surgery I will be looking for another doc any suggestions? read more

Terrible experience. I've had 8 Pilar cysts removed from my scalp over the last 15 years and I went in to have the 9th one taken out at Pariser. I've never had a doctor or nurse shave my head for this procedure any of the previous excisons, but this time they shaved an area about the size of a tennis ball on top of my head for an incision no larger than the size of a dime. This cyst was nowhere near as large as others I've had dermatologists remove without having massive bald patches shaved into my head. The amount of hair missing from the crown of my head is shocking and it will take years to grow back! There was zero concern for preserving my hair at all. I'm devastated at having a huge and unnecessary bald spot. read more

Dr. Chang did a great job removing and stitching my wife's knee. all was good until our neighbor (a medical doctor) noticed a slight infection in the top stitch area. Fast forward from our terrible in-office experience to my wife being on the phone all day trying to get someone in the office to address the infection. I can't BEGIN to explain the amount of attitude you get from the office/ lower end medical staff. you would think there would be something my wife is looking to gain from getting her infection looked at ("is there something you WANT? you've called us 5 times". If I could rate less than 1 star I would do that. I was seen by Dr. DeHart for psoriasis on my hands. Dr. DeHart seemed to be very much in a hurry. I would say he spent less than 3 minutes with me. Hedid not show any interest in anything I had to say. I felt pressured to consent to him prescribing a cream for me at a certain pharmacy that was not my usual pharmacy. He gave me a handout from a display on the counter in the exam room that explained the pharmacy location and how they handled the process of filling your prescription. I felt really pressured to use this pharmacy because it seemed my only choice was to agree or to be prescribed a less effective medicine. I consented to the prescription being filled by that pharmacy. I called the pharmacy and the prescription was going to cost more than 500.00 out of pocket. I needed a different treatment plan. I called the office and left message. I received call back that Dr. DeHart would order a different cream. i told them I was concerned because this cream was the same type of cream that had been ordered for me several times in the past and did not work. I had tried to emphasize that to Dr. DeHart during my brief appointment - I have been treated with several corticosteroid creams over the course of 15 months and they did not help. The woman on the phone then asked in what I considered a very rude manner what "could she do?". I asked if she could let the Dr. know my concerns. I still have not received a call back. My son and I have been a patient with Pariser Dermatology for years. We were with another practice for a few years where we experienced horrible customer service and very judgmental staff members but a beautiful office in Virginia Beach. Coming from that to this non-judgmental, great customer service practice with multiple locations and physicians was like night and day. I always recommend this practice. They have multiple staff members, physicians and resources available for skin care medically and cosmetically. They treat kids and adults. I had a 7:30 am appointment today, apparently it was cancelled without any notification. They claim they either texted, called or emailed( couldn't tell me which one) I checked spam, voicemails, and text, nadda. Dr. Pariser would not see me unless I paid $150 copayment, but my copayment was supposed to be $25 to see the Resident. The resident was not in and he would not honor the lower copayment. I waited close to a month to get the appointment. My leg has a bad rash that has itched consistently everyday to the point that I have scratched and it is bleeding. You would think since this was their error, that they would own up to it and see me at the $25.00 rate. Dr. Pariser himself, declined. What doctor puts money before the welfare of their patient? I don't write reviews... but choosing a doctor is difficult and everyone deserves to have as much information as possible... My experience with Pariser Dermatology has been terrible. I went to one location for a consult about 2 bumps on my head. They confirmed they were Pilar Cysts and said removal was easy. The doctor I saw said I would not need to have my head shaved for the removal (I specifically asked). I had to go to a different location for the surgery, so I was scheduled at the Norfolk location. This was the day before a 3 day weekend and I had the last appointment of the day. I FELT that I was the patient standing between them and a holiday. Everything was completely rushed. Everyone barely looked at me when they were talking because they were so busy multi-tasking. It may have been just a simple procedure for them, but it was a big deal for me. I was anxious and nervous and not a single person took the time to make me feel okay. When I go to sit in the chair for the surgery, there's blood on it. I guess in their rush for the holiday, cleaning wasn't a priority. I was surprised and saddened to find out I would have to have my head shaved after all. I don't know which doctor got it wrong, but either way I know get to enjoy the awkwardness of two random chunks of my head growing back. Couldn't even use a good pair of clippers. It was an old school razer that didn't exactly feel comfortable to have my hair chopped off while I stressed about the needles that were about to go into my head to numb it. Anyways, the finally straw was the pathology results and bills. Months go by and I don't hear anything about the results from the pathology. I get a bill in the mail, I can see that I'm paying for the results, but I don't receive them. I try the patient portal, I can't see ANYTHING. No visit summaries, no results, and even no bills. I can't pay the bill I received online because it's not showing up. I call billing and get a very rude response. They say they'll put in a ticket for technology to look into the portal issue and request a call from the doctor to go over my results. Nothing happens. No call and no changes on the portal. I also send a message through the portal, no response. I call a week later. Still a surprise that I haven't received anything or that I can't see anything on the portal. I'm sent to medical records to request the information and I have to leave a voicemail. Still waiting for answers.... 0/10 Would NOT recommend Pariser Dermtology. read more

Good Afternoon, Just came in for appointment. The young lady behind the counter on her personal cell phone signaled with hand pointing as if to say I will be with you in one moment. I am a patient person and waited then waited while she continued with what was obviously a personnel conversation on her phone. Fed up I walked out. My wife recommended them as a good place for dermatology care but after this experience I doubt she or I or our kids will be back. I have gone here for years for prurigo nodularis on my face. There is a constant rotation of doctors. Only the latest one realized that after all of these years, I needed a higher dose of cortisone. Went there 1/31/20, was seen by Dr. Kelly. I didn't feel that professional staff or doctor gave me the attention an average patient would expect. He just looked at the skin, didn't even do a close examination or analysis of the allergic reaction I was suffering from. He made his recommendation as far as prescription and application. Chesapeake office receptionist was an insult to an injury, very rude. I have to go back there again next Wednesday because symptoms didn't go away or subside. I had a horrendous experience checking out from my appointment. The two "receptionists" I encountered were unhelpful, negative and rude. They said they took Care Credit, but then they couldn't load the website on their computer. When they finally did, they wouldn't take my card number which I had in my phone, but insisted on a physical card, which I did not have and have never had to use before at any establishment. When I logged in onto the Care Credit website to show them my account info, they insisted that wasn't good enough. I politely told them that my son was waiting to be picked up from his school where he couldn't stay late due to Covid and that I had to leave. They upped their attitude even more and insisted that I could not leave the premises without paying. They literally treated me like a criminal who was trying to get away with something. Mind you, I am an established patient at this practice, they know where I live, have my insurance and financial info in their files. I offered to continue our conversation and give them the Care Credit details from my phone as I drove to pick up my son who was now calling me in hysterics that his school was kicking him out and he had nowhere to go. The two employees threatened to call security and said I could not leave! In utter exasperation, I pulled out my regular credit card and threw it down on the desk, telling them to just put it on that one, although I didn't want to pay with that since it was a sizable charge and I wanted to be able to pay it off over time with the 0% promotional rate offered by Care Credit. The two ladies literally SNAPPED, went completely INSANE, and started yelling for security! They screamed that I threw my card at them (I didn't, I angrily dropped it on the desk and it bounced off onto the ground, not even touching either of them), and the whole thing devolved into an embarrassing screaming match. Everyone in the waiting room was looking at us, horrified. I was absolutely livid at being treated like this in a medical establishment. Honestly, I have NEVER been treated so rudely in my life-- anywhere. I will NEVER go back to this establishment for either Medical or Cosmetic procedures which is a shame because I have only had positive experiences there before. CODA: Once in the car, I called their Business Office to discuss this issue and a kind woman named Chris offered to refund my Visa charge if I would just issue a payment from Care Credit. I did so from the online portal and was refunded my money. Yes, it was that simple. Would it have been SO FREAKING HARD for these nitwits to try to help me SOLVE the problem rather than screaming at me like banshees? Clearly Pariser Dermatology needs to do more training with their so-called receptionists before unleashing them on their unsuspecting clientele. Front desk staff are supposed to HELP their customers if problems arise. I was very nervous to have a procedure done on my eyebrow. However, after Elisha, Dr. Chang's assistant, came in and talked with me, my anxiety decreased. She explained what was going to occur and even repeated what she said because I was still unclear with the procedure. She was so patient with me. Elisha periodically came in the room to make sure I was okay while waiting for Dr. Chang. When she administered the medicine to numb the sight, she again explained exactly what she was doing. When Dr. Chang arrived and performed the procedure, I was calm and ready for him to get it done. Afterwards, Elisha stayed and continued talking to me. i had botox on my forehead line in Virginia Beach office by Debra quinn and she advised me it will take a week until i see results. I took a photo of my face before the treatment. after a week there was no good result and it looked the same as I didn't have any botox. I called them again in order to fix it. I made the appointment with melisa. then they called me and told that I need an appointment for consultant with the esthetician for 2 wrinkles between my eyebrows, and i have to pay for it, i felt that they are dragging me for stuff i don't need and never came for. this is facial, not botox issue. this office just want more money and happy customers. needless to say i will never again use them again and recommend to be careful in choosing the botox you need done not them! read more
