I highly recommend aiming for a first morning or first afternoon appt if you don't want to deal with providers running behind. The providers have always spent ample time with me to listen to my needs and complete necessary skin checks. I recently needed to change medications and Lindsey researched my options thoroughly, listened to my concerns and we made a plan of care together. I went back to have it redone. Again the doctor's treatment did not work, the spot returned. I was charged another $150. So $300 for absolutely no improvement. I have had these spots removed several other times--by different doctors--to good effect and with only one treatment. I called the clinic to complain and was told to speak to the clinic manager. I did speak with her and she basically told me they did not care that I'd paid $300 for ineffective treatment, the clinic would neither refund at least half what I paid, if not all, nor would they offer another treatment, this time with a different doctor, and free of charge.

It is nearly impossible to get ahold of someone in the actual office. I left a message on a machine at the actual clinic, a person eventually called back but I was in a meeting at work so couldn't answer. But they left a message with their extension to dial to reach them directly. Sounds good, right? Except I called 6 times over the rest of the day (including once maybe 5 minutes after they called me) and they never answered, and the "extension" numbers don't have a voicemail. The next day the Hampton office calls and again I don't answer because I was busy, and I get another extension that no one ever answers. Nice. But they also call my husband, and he does answer! Turns out, they had screwed up their doctor's schedule and decided to reschedule all of the patients to Hampton instead of the doctor to VA Beach, I guess. If we wanted to reschedule, it would be months of wait, again. Awesome. Anyway, despite him saying "we" would like to cancel, they only canceled his appointment. I guess they thought he was using the royal "we". So I called and left a message on their clinic's answering machine that I would like to cancel... and I'm still getting text messages this morning about my appointment in Hampton. I'm realizing now that I dodged a bullet, because no doctor is good enough to justify this level of incompetence and lack of care for their patients from the front of house.

A friend of mine guided me to Skin Renaissance after she had to deal with my barrage of skin complaints. I'm not getting any younger and being a mom now leaves little time for self care, which is required now more than it used to be. My sweet friend kindly gifted me some credit to use and I stopped in last week. I had initially been considering botox, but thought it best to get an expert's opinion. I made an appointment with their NP, Suzanne. I arrived a little early to check in and complete forms. After completing paperwork, I was invited to get a beverage or snack while I waited. They offer hand sanitizer in many locations and everyone wore a mask through my entire visit. They took me back right at my appointment time - also appreciated. My first stop was the Visia skin analysis room where Suzanne and I chatted about my concerns and skin history - I spent most of my teen years in a tanning bed and have a lengthy history of melanoma and BCC, some of which have been removed from my face. The Visia was insightful and allowed Suzanne to make recommendations based on underlying damage and redness (thanks, genetics!). I learned that botox was the last thing I needed, go figure! She offered some really good recommendations, starting with a compound topical which is already providing results in under a week! She also consulted with Julie, the owner, who made the same recommendations. All together, they spent nearly an hour evaluating and chatting with me - it didn't cost me a dime - but it certainly put me at ease to seek future care with them. I am due to return for a follow up and continue treatment and am super happy to go back. I'm already grateful to Suzanne for helping me to feel better about my skin in such a short period of time.

Being Caucasian it's not terribly easy to tell but the side affects of not having skin pigment are many. I can't go out in the sun for any length of time at all. Even a short walk from the parking lot to a store can result in sunburn. I was having a very hard time finding products that would protect my skin without irritating it. Even regular face wash will tear my skin up with normal use. The doctor here was great in recommending products that I've found to work well with little or no irritation. They also educated me on some laws that work in my favor to further protect me from the sun. I got a medical waiver that allows me to tint my windows on my car as dark as I like! The staff here is always professional and pleasant. I've rarely had to wait more than a few minutes to be seen and phone calls are returned promptly. Excellent clinic!

The dermatologist Dr. Dehart did not perform any meaningful examination of my scalp or skin. Despite explaining twice that my rheumatologist needed dermatology to help rule out cutaneous lupus, the doctor repeatedly insisted that "lupus should have been diagnosed through bloodwork," which is medically inaccurate. Cutaneous lupus often requires visual evaluation or biopsy, not just labs. He did not part my hair, touch my scalp, or examine the area where my previous rash had been. I offered photos of the rash, and he glanced briefly and said he "couldn't tell," without offering follow up, options for monitoring, or guidance on what to do if it reappears. In addition, when I asked about hirsutism (excess facial hair), I was told there was "nothing that can be done," and that the medication had been discontinued, both statements that conflict with standard dermatological treatment options. He also incorrectly stated that insurance does not cover electrolysis, although my insurance (Tricare East) does in certain medical circumstances. Overall, I left the appointment with no examination, no plan of care, and no acknowledgment of my rheumatologist's request. This experience felt dismissive, rushed, and uninformed about dermatologic conditions on Black skin and textured hair. I will be seeking care elsewhere.
