The dermatologist Dr. Dehart did not perform any meaningful examination of my scalp or skin. Despite explaining twice that my rheumatologist needed dermatology to help rule out cutaneous lupus, the doctor repeatedly insisted that "lupus should have been diagnosed through bloodwork," which is medically inaccurate. Cutaneous lupus often requires visual evaluation or biopsy, not just labs. He did not part my hair, touch my scalp, or examine the area where my previous rash had been. I offered photos of the rash, and he glanced briefly and said he "couldn't tell," without offering follow up, options for monitoring, or guidance on what to do if it reappears. In addition, when I asked about hirsutism (excess facial hair), I was told there was "nothing that can be done," and that the medication had been discontinued, both statements that conflict with standard dermatological treatment options. He also incorrectly stated that insurance does not cover electrolysis, although my insurance (Tricare East) does in certain medical circumstances. Overall, I left the appointment with no examination, no plan of care, and no acknowledgment of my rheumatologist's request. This experience felt dismissive, rushed, and uninformed about dermatologic conditions on Black skin and textured hair. I will be seeking care elsewhere.

At the consultation the provider will give you the prices for everything. Treatments are "pricey", but they will be the same cost almost anywhere. I met with a nurse who evaluated my problems and educated me on what I should get treated. She put together notes to make my in office visit quick and easy. I really like how professional they are as medical professionals and not as most cosmetic professionals who don't consider health factors and putting together a health & physical. On the day of my in-person appointment, upon arrival they took me into one of the nurses office to continue my consultation and take pictures of my problem areas. All information was added on to my record. They had also scheduled me for a chemical peel. The lady who did my chemical peel was so sweet and informative. She was so patient with me. In fact, all the staff members were just so helpful and sweet. Every time I call for scheduling or questions they are just so kind. Their customer service is out of this world. I also love that they have memberships, monthly specials and new member discounts. Just so many ways to save money while obtaining skin care services. Come check out Dermacare for your skin care needs!

She wouldn't be able to drive herself to these doctors after general anesthesia and one eye covered with a bulky patch. Peninsula Dermatology & Skin Cancer Surgery Center in Newport News was the first stop for the MOAS Procedure. This microsurgery removes a single layer of skin cells and examines each to determine if the suspect cells are gone, or if another layer must be taken off. She was lucky to require only one dermis layer to be removed when she was advised a second would not be required. The medical assistant who took charge of prepping her for the surgery was friendly and supremely competent. She escorted sister into the operating room, helped her complete the forms and introduced her to the surgeon, and further assisted as appropriate in the O. R. It was she who returned to us in the inner waiting room to give the happy news that we could now move on to part two of this day's agenda - the reconstruction of the eyelid. The only rub with Act II was that we had to travel to Richmond (about 90 miles away) to accomplish this feat. Thus, my role as chauffeur. Please check on Virginia Oculofacial Surgeons page for the end of this story. FIVE STARS for the quality, expertise and humanity of Peninsula Dermatology and Skin Cancer Surgery Center. They got us off to an auspicious start.

I am a frequent flyer, having been first diagnosed with melanoma in 2009 with multiple recurrences since, so I'm here at least every 3 months. This Chesapeake location is clean and easily accessible, though, like most specialty practices you may have a long wait to get an appointment. I highly recommend aiming for a first morning or first afternoon appt if you don't want to deal with providers running behind. The providers have always spent ample time with me to listen to my needs and complete necessary skin checks. I recently needed to change medications and Lindsey researched my options thoroughly, listened to my concerns and we made a plan of care together. They also employ 2 aestheticians for those interested in neuromodulators or custom laser face and body treatments. I am grateful to Pariser for their care!

After waiting 45 minutes after my appointment time, I checked with the front desk and was told they were finishing up with an earlier appointment & would be out to get me. 15 minutes later I was called back. As I sat down in the chair I was told that there was 1 more patient ahead of me & it would be another 20 - 30 minutes before they started the procedure because they were short a technician. So my 2 pm appointment for which I arrived at 1:45 and was called back at 3 pm wouldn't start until at least 3:20 pm. I left. It is ironic that while I waited a patient came in 11 minutes after her appointment time & was told she might not be seen because a she exceeded the 10 minute limit for late arrivals. The doctor did agree to see the patient but it floors me that this practice has ZERO respect for their patient's time. What could they have done differently? Well when they realized they were short a tech they could have called patients and given them an opportunity to reschedule or at least be aware that the appointment time would be late or when I checked in I could have been told there was a delay and given the opportunity to reschedule. It seems to me they should appreciate their client's time.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Call us to change or cancel." Awesome. So I call this office, but their scheduling department is a call service who didn't know what was going on. It is nearly impossible to get ahold of someone in the actual office. I left a message on a machine at the actual clinic, a person eventually called back but I was in a meeting at work so couldn't answer. But they left a message with their extension to dial to reach them directly. Sounds good, right? Except I called 6 times over the rest of the day (including once maybe 5 minutes after they called me) and they never answered, and the "extension" numbers don't have a voicemail. The next day the Hampton office calls and again I don't answer because I was busy, and I get another extension that no one ever answers. Nice. But they also call my husband, and he does answer! Turns out, they had screwed up their doctor's schedule and decided to reschedule all of the patients to Hampton instead of the doctor to VA Beach, I guess. If we wanted to reschedule, it would be months of wait, again. Awesome. Anyway, despite him saying "we" would like to cancel, they only canceled his appointment. I guess they thought he was using the royal "we". So I called and left a message on their clinic's answering machine that I would like to cancel... and I'm still getting text messages this morning about my appointment in Hampton. I'm realizing now that I dodged a bullet, because no doctor is good enough to justify this level of incompetence and lack of care for their patients from the front of house.
