She said yes. And then, she proceeded to chop off all the bits I said I wanted to keep. On top of completely straying from what I said I wanted, my friend noticed that the hair at the back of my head was now lopsided (and not in a funky way). The only thing I can think of to explain how this mess could've happened is that the stylist answered (and spoke on) the phone three times during the cut. So maybe that threw her flow off or something. But seriously, not a real good excuse. Anyways. I pouted a bit, got my friend to straighten up the back, and now have a healthy sense of fear about taking action on future whims. I suppose it's a good lesson overall... But if you can learn vicariously through my tale and not have to get a horrible haircut yourself, please do.

I called the salon beforehand to ask for their opening time, but didn't know Sundays are by appointment only, so I unknowingly showed up almost an hour late (oops!), but regardless my hairstylist Ann and her assistant were quite sweet and professional. I'm not sure if there are other stylists working here on weekdays/Saturdays, but on Sunday there seems to be only two people working. Ann works pretty fast and she finished cutting my hair in 10 to 15 minutes, while asking me questions about my hair. Since I'm keeping my natural hair colour right now, Ann made some recommendations about hair colouring for my consideration in the future. Her assistant then washed, blow-dried and styled my hair in the next 15 to 20 minutes. I have shoulder length hair and the whole thing cost $28 not including tip. They accept cash and debit. Although it's a small shop, the salon is very neat and well-kept. I will probably come back for more cuts and maybe colouring!

I was engaged by the salon owner who took time to discuss stylist/ colorist options for my hair, based on the cut-style and color I was looking for. Booking was professional and easy. When I arrived for my first booking, my hair was treated to a full consultation where they explained the state which my hair was in - Poor - likely due to the inexpensive yet readily available drug store products I had to use while I was completing my two-month move to Toronto. I had my cut with Patty, who I would recommend based on her wealth of knowledge and attention to detail, and my color was with Stephanie. Both Stylists were very friendly and delivered results which were exactly what I was looking for - the work was fantastic! Overall, the salon experience was exceptional AND most importantly affordable. As someone who has visited a lot of high-end salons in Toronto/ GTA I can attest that Chairacters is a head above the rest. Like with any service you receive, in order to get the full results, listen to the professionals and USE the recommended products! I have been using their shampoo and conditioner for almost a week now and I can say that my hair feels lighter, cleaner and sustains massive amounts of volume. I was ok to wait, so I waited but luckily she finished a bit earlier, so she took me in. I have no complaints. I had long dead dry hair and after asking her to cut it medium length with long bangs she cut it exactly the way I asked. Overall, look was great. She has great taste in aesthetic. She did a cut, wash and style within 15 minutes for him and he looked awesome. When she sat me down and asked me how short did I want my hair, I told her to keep the length and just add layers. She asked if I wanted my hair a thinner and I said yes just a little thinner. It came out exactly how I wanted it. I think their cuts are great- they listen to what you want, and they execute it perfectly and timely. I've been able to keep my cut for months as it grows out smoothly and still looks cute as the hair lengthens. The place isn't fancy, but the work is the best I've had done, and I've been to several well reputed, trendy places on Queen West and Kensington Market. It kinda feels like getting your hair cut in Brooklyn! ;)
