As other people have indicated in their reviews the name of this business is a bit misleading as we came here looking for French Pastries after watching Pastry week on the Great British Baking show on cable the other night (got to feed the itch once you get it). Once we arrived though we realized this is really a Mediterranean Bakery with a heavy emphasis on all things Baklava. Having reconciled ourselves that French pastry we're not on the table on this trip we decided to give their Baklava a try as it looked so good in their display. This business typically sells by the tray not individually. However seeing how much we wanted to try just a few pieces of their assortment they accommodated us letting us purchase 6 pieces of Pistachio, almond and a third one that unfortunately escapes me for $6 which was very reasonable. All three choices were very well baked and very tasty albeit very very sweet! They definately know how to do Baklava right at this business! Food aside, the people here were very friendly and very accommodating where we truly appreciated them selling individual pieces that are not part of their normal practice. Two bit thumbs up for putting the customer first as this is not always the case in this area. Aside from their large Baklava selection, they do have a large selection of other pastries, cakes, cookies and assorted desserts that look quite good that we did not get a chance to sample on this trip. Something to look forward too the next time we come here which we will definately be doing in the near future!

Wow. The cake slices were dry as a bone. Literally we each took a bite and spat it out. Whatever's in this pic went in the trash. Very disappointed. Seen the "no refund" sign. Probably a good hint...

I am extremely disappointed :( These were the worst Pastries I've ever had. I bought two small Vanilla layered Cakes, and two Cakes slices-- one Devils Food Chocolate and one Red Velvet. The Vanilla cakes tasted like oil. The Red Velvet was extremely bitter and the Chocolate tasted off like it was extremely old. As well, all of the cakes were horrendously dry. They have a no refund policy which is super frustrating and unfair. So to whoever's reading this ,to avoid frustration, please head this review's warning.

I really wanted to love this place, but it didn't quite do it for me. They have tons of options in terms of pastries, Mediterranean desserts, baklava, etc. maybe it's because I just haven't tried their best items. I had a craving for chocolate cake on my way home from work so I stopped by here and got a slice of chocolate cake, carrot cake, and a pistachio vanilla cake. I also got a few pieces of baklava. The baklava was amazing! The cake slices were perhaps a little too moist and did not fully exude the flavors that I was hoping they would. The chocolate cake, while it looked like chocolate cake, did not really deliver the flavor. The carrot cake was decent. The pistachio vanilla cake had somewhat of an odd flavor that I can't fully explain. My husband and I ate maybe half of each slice between the two of us. The person working there was very nice and helpful. I learned from her that they do have a knafeh cheesecake, which I might return to try. I wouldn't say the desert was bad - it just wasn't anything to write home about, even though everything looked beautiful.

They did a beautiful job on my daughters first birthday cake! They did exactly what I asked. The price is very reasonable, They quoted me much less then everywhere. The whole party was talking about how delicious the cake was the entire time.

Call it what you will, in simple layman's terms it is a rice flour based treat that has a unique light weight chewy/stretchy texture that can be covered in a host of sweet toppings/glazes for unique flavor profiles. With this definition in mind, the Mochinuts made at this business are very well made and quite tasty treats that just disappear off your plate. How did that happen (: Realtive to facility and staff, the staff is very friendly and spent the time explaining how these treats are made and what makes them unique from a traditional donut. Building itself is quite clean and bright with some indoor seating and sells other items to include Rice Hotdogs (think hotdog on a stick), Mochi Dumplings (think filled Pierogi's), Taiyaki (rice flour fish with fillings), Ramen and Macrons. Definately a rather unique/eclectic menu from what you typically see in this area. I was pretty enamored with all aspects of this business with the exception of their prices where each Mochinut is $4.50 which is quite steep in my opinion. Having said that, I will be returning in the not to distant future as these Mochinuts are just so darn good.

There is a make your own ramen station so much packed into a tiny spot. But the person working here was really not overly friendly to us. He was certainly friendly to others and his friend who came it, but lukewarm at best if not a tab bit rude to us. Funny, though, there were four of us and we all purchased something. Two of us got the bubble tea. This is not the first Mochinut we have been to, and the tea is super cute in a can, but ensures you get less product (plus way too much ice) for the price. Really, there are better bubble tea places out there for better value. One got a donut. And others have said, while it was good, not as fresh as it could have been. Does that mean they are not moving the product? The other mochinut in Troy and Mochidough in Troy both move a lot of product, donuts taste fresher. We also got some viral ice creams. We got the chicken burger and the mini fruits. Those were both amazing, but not made by the shop. just sold here. Plus the ice cream was so super overpriced, I can get them both for a fraction of the price, but since we were here and it was on my list, I bought them anyway. I am not saying I am not coming, back, but I can buy these corndogs at the grocery store, and get a friendlier service and more value elsewhere, so this could be a one and done for me.

The coffee, which has similarities to a Turkish coffee, is a medium roast with Cardamon and cream. Definately a unique flavor profile from what I am used to where it is a flavorful robust coffee that is well balanced with no harsh notes and oh so tasty. What I didn't know before coming here is that coffee originated out of Yemen some 500 years ago where they clearly have perfected the drink where this is a HUGE step up from the week diluted drink we call coffee here in the states. The coffee shop itself is bright, clean, very modern and very inviting with a casual vibe and nice Yemeni accents throughout to add to drinking experience. Staff is very friendly in explaining the drinks and how they are made and help guide you to the right drink choice as the names of drinks are very unique and a tad confusing as evidenced by my Mufawaar (: Overall an excellent unique coffee shop that is a must visit if you are a fan of good full bodied coffee. This is a very…read moreopinionated review, but based on 50 years of lucky access to very fine coffees, and ideally you will consider it more enthusiastic and informed than smug and annoying. We live on the West Coast, were looking for Yemini coffee, and fortunately found Qamaria's website, ordering the Gate of Yemen dark roast. The roast is lighter and less oily than a French roast, as it should be, with some oil in the beans appropriate to something called a dark roast. We would say that Qamaria not only skillfully but more importantly respectfully roasts for the bean. This coffee makes us very happy, with a good dark "round" and balanced aroma to the ground beans and the brew. We made it pour over, but it feels most appropriate to stove top espresso or traditional style. It has a very satisfying long tail. A pour with a plot. A touch of the right kind of bitterness. The bean crushes easily between the fingers and grinds up finer than the espresso blend that we drink pour over (45% French Roast using Columbian beans, 45% Italian Roast using Mexican beans and 10% dark roast using Indonesian beans). Qamaria dark roast makes a pour over cup that is thicker than expected, which we find very satisfying: it's a sort of the character of traditional brewing but in a Chemex. We like the surprising way that a slight, fine sediment sneaks through the pour over paper filters and spreads across the tongue. Next we will move on to other Qamaria roasts and blends, brewing on stove top. The price point kills us, but how does one settle for ordinary to save money, when extraordinary gives such pleasure?
