Words can't describe my love for this hotel. The staff is phenomenal. The location is perfect. The rooms are beautiful. I am concerned my gushing about how wonderful it is will make it sold out so I can't stay there again, but they deserve it.
I arrived angered by my taxi driver. The staff recognized my frustration, welcomed me, and made all my cares go away. For a week.
Amaury was the Front Office Supervisor I encountered when I arrived to check in, and he was the astute person who noticed how upset I was and did everything in his power to make my day (and my entire stay) better. He also assisted in reporting the taxi driver. Later, after falling in love with the hotel, I was sad about not being able to stay longer and having to move to another nearby hotel, because of availability when we booked our room; Amaury managed to work some magic and keep us at the Marriott. It was not easy. I am so grateful.
Adam, the Guest Relations Supervisor, worked behind the scenes to ensure our stay went fantastically. It seems that hotels that have created this position really care about the guests and their satisfaction. It's a marker of a great property and tells the guest the hotel earnestly cares. To be honest, our stay at the Paris Marriott Champs Elysees was much more magical than our next destination, which should have been amazing (Paris Disneyland).
Hanna, the Maître d' at the restaurant, performs so many duties she made my head spin. She handles it all with such a wonderful attitude and grace, especially when the guests are rude and inconsiderate and even when it took her 2 hours to get to work because of the Metro strike. Her smile is contagious. We looked forward to seeing her every morning. (Breakfast, too, was fantastic, btw.)
Olivier, the head Concierge, came to my rescue when a unique tour I had booked cancelled on me. He found another vendor that offered the same night tour of Paris in a 40-year-old open-top Citroen. And thank heavens because this tour was the highlight of our month-long trip to Europe.
We stayed in a renovated room which was stunning. It was thoughtfully planned, with outlets and plug-ins for everything right where you needed them. Our room faced the street, but, with the soundproof glass they installed, we never heard a thing. The blackout drapes also had a nice overlap, so there was almost no light entering the room, which is rare. And the bathrooms are gorgeous.
As for location, it's perfect. We learned the hard way a few years ago that staying outside of the central area of Paris is a waste of money, so we decided to pay whatever excess my husband's company would not cover for our stay out of our pocket so we could stay in town, since some of our time there was for his work. The Marriott is on an automated Metro line (#1) that runs even when they strike. Also, this Metro takes you everywhere, if you are wandering the city. Tuilleries is just 2 stops. The Louvre is just one more. Also, there's an escalator up from the station, in case you overpack, like I do. AND, there's an attendant at the Metro office downstairs to answer questions and sell weekly passes, as well as a photo booth for taking the pictures you need for the passes.
Despite a few rude guests with unreasonable expectations and awful attitudes, everyone at this property treated guests with extreme kindness and grace, going over and above in any possible way they could. We have spent over 1800 nights in Marriott branded properties around the world, including several Ritz Carltons, and this rates among our top two stays, tied with the Ritz Carlton Tokyo. Both properties had not just one staff member that stood out as exceptional, but several, so that we felt at home, appreciated, and incredibly welcomed.
I hope to be back. I wish I had thought to buy a robe so that I could have some of the Paris Marriott Champs Elysees feeling every morning with my coffee to remind me of my incredible stay there. read more
