Dr. Karbassi might be an excellent dentist based on the reviews here, but his receptionists are absolutely terrible. I arrived for an appointment I made as a new patient over the phone with staff there, and found the door locked. It was opened by a receptionist who gave me a look like I was crazy when I explained to her that I had an appointment at 4:30. She checked the computer, and found no appointment. I had even received a reminder card in the mail. She continued to be rude and dismissive while looking in the computer for it, and told me that the doctor had gone home for the day at 3:30 because "no one was coming in" and it looked like my appointment had disappeared. She said there was nothing she could do. She let me know that the other staff was the one who sent the reminder card, who took my appointment and probably was the one who canceled it. I had driven 47 minutes to get to their office in downtown Martinez. It says here on Yelp that they're open from 9 - 6 pm on Mondays. Totally ridiculous, if only I had called to double check before heading all the way over there because it seems like these days no one can do their job properly and you seriously always have to assume that people are not going to. I am 72 years old I've seen all kinds of dentist from the time I was in the Marine Corps to dentist that I see from moving around I just want to praise dr. Karbassi for being the best overall dentist I have experienced. He always would tell me the truth and his prices are very reasonable, he can accommodate removing a crown to replacing it in about 3 days that's unheard of in Dentistry. He had no Yelp reviews I should have known. But I did get a personal referral so I went anyways. The receptionists were super sweet even the lady who did my cleaning was nice. Even as she wasn't being very gentle with the sensitive gums I warned her about. First I came for a cleaning then I went here to have an old filling replaced. I felt like the doc and his guy assistant were not very nice. My cleaning that sucked. I mean the cleaning was alright at best but they did not even do a fluoride rinse. What? I know wack right? And when I asked for it they stated they didn't do that. What kind of dentist doesn't do a fluoride rinse? This one. When I am at the dentist I want great service. This was not great. The filling was okay. Boo. I am never going back. Not to mention I asked about Zoom whitening $500 then I come to see that they offer a $299 special on yahoo. Funny thing is I ended up doing mine at Brite Smile for $299 had the jerk of a dentist told me about the deal instead of trying to get an extra $200 out of me he would have gotten my business. read more

Not sure what the other reviews are talking about. Then again th4ey are pretty old so I thought I would give a current review. I have had a deep fear of dentists all my life. When I went in I warned everyone of this. For the first time in my life I could honestly say the initial numbing was the best I have experienced. Meaning the pain was very low and he was careful not to rush. I got a partial and it came out almost perfect. Can't tell the difference. I highly recommend Dr Karbassi and have had a wonderful time with all their staff. Special thanks to Whitney who has always remembered to call me ahead of time and remember our conversations. Only negative is there is not a lot of decor but I hear it is getting updated now. read more

I can say this is a very nice office and staff. Super sweet ladies that work behind the counter, his assistant has a great personality as well. Dr K. is not unreasonable in his prices, I would suggest you call around in MTZ, in fact he is the least expensive. Dr. Karbassi & Staff have treated us for several years, now. Always got treated with good care & good advice care for my dental needs. I only had one complaint w/ an assistant who was very rough during a routine cleaning. When I mentioned that treatment to Staff, I never saw that assistant, again. Worst dentist ever, I do not wish to call him a doctor because I don't think he is one. The clinic is very shabby and dirty. He is always trying to scam people into purchasing additional un required treatment. He knew I have insurance so he tried to fraud my insurance company into saying that he provided me more treatment than he actually did. I am glad I caught that on my insurance paperwork and I contacted them immediately I told them that he never performed the mentioned treatment. He told me that it does not matter and he would do it for free for me if incase I ever need it!! I was shocked...I said "what if I don't want to get it done by you?" I don't know what the average cost of dental care really is, but I think when one is paying a lot of money they should get good service. If everyone at the business was as great as the office staff the rating would be much higher. However, I've never had such bad experiences with pain, a never ending recovery and constant discomfort from going to a dentist. I've had fillings before, and I've never once had a problem. I had fillings done here and months later still can't eat on that side of my mouth. I complained and they needed to be filed or whatever. Guess what? Still pain, still INSANE temperature sensitivity when I NEVER previously experienced this problem. From everyone I've talked to they're really good with crowns, but fillings seem to be a big problem. Now I get to pay someone else to redo what they've seriously messed up because I'm not willing to pay MORE for them to fix what should have been done right to begin with. Another poster also commented on how unprofessional the actual dentist comes across, and this is true. The gold chains, chest hair, etc are incredibly off putting while you're paying out your rear for bad services. Additionally, I'd like to point out watching him race from stop sign to stop sign in his fancy sports car is equally off putting. Downtown Martinez has speed limits for a reason. read more

Parents beware!! He extracted 2 of my 5 year old daughter's teeth without putting in spacers. She will now undoubtedly need braces according to the new children's dentist she is seeing. Not to mention the trauma of going through extractions when other measures should have been taken. My husband now has to go through a deep root cleaning and laser treatment because of the poor dental care. The sealants they put on my son's molars (to help fight cavities) were put on wrong and he had to have a filling and all the sealants redone! By the way... this is the only cavity my son has ever had. I would tell anyone and everyone to stay away and kindly request Dr. Karbassi find a new profession or goes back to school. read more

Just wanted to clarify that Dr. Karbassi and his staff were absolutely delightful. Very professional, courteous and friendly. In no way did he ever try to sell me a service that was not appropriate for my treatment. I have been receiving my dental care and cleaning since he opened his business. I have since referred several people who have now become loyal patients. My husband even switched dentists and is quite pleased with all of his care. I saw Dr. Karbassi a few years ago in a different clinic, not this one in Martinez. In my opinion, Dr. Karbassi ranks lowest among all of the dentists I've ever seen in terms of attitude, skills and ability to provide good care to patients. He was impatient and somehow reluctant to answer my questions during my visit. At that clinic, dentists also cleaned patients' teeth. That was a nightmare - he rushed to get the job done, not caring much for my comfort. At one point, I felt portion of my gum was badly hurt due to his careless use of those tools. That level of discomfort surpassed that of any procedures I've had in any dental clinics. And that was just cleaning! This tells me that if one doesn't choose his or her dentist carefully, even cleaning teeth can be a terrible experience. read more

I just had a very pleasant experience with Dr. Karbassi and his male assistant Adrian. I complain when things go wrong in my life and this time it is a pleasure to praise the good moments. Dr. Karbassi capped one of my front teeth hoping it would match well with other capped teeth on one side and my natural teeth on the other . After a couple of weeks I was not happy with the shade or shape of the new tooth as the new tooth did not blend well enough with the rest of my smile. I did attempt to adjust knowing that the tooth next to it was causing an added problem as it was shifting. I called and talked to the Dr. about my feelings and he had me come in immediately to replace the tooth. He changed the shape and the color of the replaced tooth and my smile now looks very natural. I am very thankful for the extra effort taken. Dr. Karbassi's assistant Adrian always takes the time to answer my many questions and genuinely enjoys passing on his knowledge about teeth and teeth care. He is a good listener and passes my concerns to Dr. Karbassi. I appreciate his opinions. NOTE--. I never give 5 stars to anyone--being perfect is a tough call. read more

I have been Dr. Karbassi's patient for years and always received excellent treatment. Roxanne works with our insurance companies (yes 2) so we do not handle any paperwork. They are open some Saturdays and the doctor always comes in and checks my teeth, gums and X-rays during each visit. Dr. Karbassi discusses with us the best course of action and sets up a plan to address each family member's individual dental care needs. Dear Dr. Karbassi, I bought a washer from your business there on Green st at your dental office. I know, it was used,could not test washer since not hooked up. Got washer home and ran a load that took forever to finish. The washer had a constant water leak that you didn't tell me about. You said it had a broken dryer section since this is a washer/dryer combo unit. You denied the water leak. should of known since not connected to water. It's one thing to sell an item used with faults. It's a totally differnet thing to pawn off your garbage to someone not expecting to buy junk. I travelled far away and spent $175 for a useless washer, a total of $235.00 wasted since I used my large truck to haul unit. You stated the unit was used for your business. I should of walked away when unit could not be tested. I saw desk person and waited for you, everyone at your office knew I was there to buy that faulty washer they knew about since used for your business. Not very ethical, you don't make enough money do dentistry, so you sell off you broken faulty appliances? My garage had minor water damage that I luckily caught before worse since using faulty washer. A morning wasted cleaning up water in garage. A day wasted travelling to buy bad washer plus money. Dr. Karbassi's office personnel seemed nice enough the two times I was there, but they misquoted my insurance; apparently, somone was "in training". Even worse, the hygiene in the office is questionable at best. I noted when I was sitting in the exam chairs (two different ones in his practice) that the drill heads had chipped paint - that's the part that goes in your mouth - GROSS! It freaked me out, but not as much as the minor gum infections I had after each of my two visits. Just several small white soars on my gums - no biggie! Do not go to this dentist. I have been going to Dr. karbassi for many years. My children (ages 3,5,7) adore him. He is extremely gentle and kind. The office staff are sweet and professional. In response to one of the reviews, I must say throughout all these years, my husband and I have never seen Dr. Karbassi without a tie. So I don't see how that other guy has mentioned Dr. Karbassi's chest hair. All my husband and I have to say is that Dr. Karbassi is great and we are so blessed to have him as our family dentist. RUN!!!!! Save your teeth and money. I had my teeth whitened and I kept telling him it was burning. Then the next day I went to his office to show him my burned up, shredded gums with my lips huge, and skin peeling off, very very painful for several days. I should have ran them. So he gives me half off,no sorry, no reaction, had I not started other work I would have left then.. This guys favorite word is "you need a crown" he did a shabby job filling a tooth that was on the surface corner of a tooth, I had another opinion afterward and his damage was unnecessary and was not needed, and what he did was screw me out of money and did unnecessary work to make more money and damage that would have to be fixed.. He drilled it and filled it lengthwise, instead of the corner, thus causing an infection which made my face huge and caused me to need a root canal to fix the damage HE DID. I needed antibiotics which I was charged for, then because of his crappy work, he then put in a temporary filling, and told me I would need another permanent one to last till my insurance 5 months later and drill it out before the crown. Wow I should pay for 3 filling and a crown? I needed a crown because of his incompetence. He then did the root canal, and afterward said my root was cracked. I asked what do you mean cracked? he said to come back in 2 months and if it wasn't healed we would worry about it then. Needless to say, after thousands of dollars I took my X rays to another Dr. a competent one who doesn't trump up your bill and damage your mouth to charge you more money. He is a quack and I suggest you RUN! he makes things worse to charge you more. Also his written estimates are always 100-200 more, then he tells you, you needed more work than on the estimate.
