We decided to grab a bite on Friday night and I remembered this establishment that I had visited years ago. It's in an spot that doesn't really stand out - so many signs and businesses and 3 lanes of traffic in each direction. As soon as you walk in the front door, you are swept away from this industrial looking area. The decor is upscale and enchanting. It definitely has the Wow factor. The staff are extremely polite and accommodating. The food was excellent - hot, fresh, and bursting with flavor. My friend had never had Middle Eastern cuisine and loved it! It's hard to remember, but there was a time when Paramount boasted some of the tastiest Middle Eastern food around. Somewhere along the line, though, the level of quality began to take a steep nosedive -- presumably because they expanded dramatically so rapidly. All this is to say that I was disappointed by my meal at this location but I wasn't surprised. I decided to order the Tabliyeh Saj Chicken Shawarma ("Authentically seasoned chicken shawarma, garlic sauce and pickles, wrapped in Saj bread and grilled. Served with french fries and our traditional garnish"). (I had also requested hot sauce on the side but I instead received ketchup. Okay, sure.) The big issue with this concoction is how sloppily it's been assembled. Both ends of the wrap are essentially just bread, which is a bummer to be sure. The rest of the wrap is just so-so, with the lack of crispy bits and overuse of garlic sauce turning it into a one-note, one-texture creation. The fries were hot and fresh, at least. I hope I've finally learned my lesson as far as Paramount goes, especially when there are so many other (and better) Middle Eastern restaurants around. read more

Came in with old memories of their "world famous hummus" and rolled myself out after trying all the things. Seemed understaffed: though every server was friendly, and we were one of two tables of guests, service was fairly slow. But the food? Excellent. Lots of vegan options, and since I couldn't decide, I chose the veggie platter, which apparently was meant for 2 people! Falafel, marinated cauliflower, moutabbal (eggplant, tahini, garlic dip), tabbouleh, 2 giant, steaming pita puffballs, and that world famous hummus. Amazing. My guy had really good chicken shawarma that came with a garlic dip and nothing-special-fries. (They added a small hummus for his enjoyment). We ordered 2 non-alcoholic drinks from the summer menu; both were super refreshing and fruity: Raspberry Mint something and Sparkling Berry Lemonade. I was cleaning out my purse and found a gift card to Paramount that I got a couple of years ago. I drove over to this location to: see how much was left on the card and grab lunch. The chicken shawarma wrap along with spicy potatoes were delicious! I was going to share the potatoes, but ended up eating everything all by myself. Service is quick. They have both take out and dine in so there were a lot of patrons sitting inside, but also drivers of various food delivery services coming in and out. I've always liked Paramount. When I used to live in Midtown, I would go to their Yonge-Eg location. And when I worked in Scarborough, I would order from their Vic Park/Sheppard or Don Mills locations. Example 1: Called and spoke to a guy on the phone asking if I can book a table for 7. Response: it will be a 30 to 45min wait we cannot accommodate you. Walked in 40 seconds later - got seated right away...when i inquired as to what happened, apparently 30 people JUST left... Example 2: They sat us at a table brought us water and then told us we were sitting too close to the other table...but...you sat us here? Example 3: Ordered spicy potatoes. Were brought dry, terrible tasting potatoes with no sauce. Asked for extra sauce, response we don't have extra sauce, we have to remake it. It will take 5 to 10mins. Ahlan wa Sahlan. An Arabic greeting loosely and metaphorically translated to "Welcome, make yourself at home". We were not greeted with this saying, but it makes for a nice opening. I believe Ahlan actually means "kinfolk" and Sahlan means "easy", implying "welcome home, rest easy (you're among family)". Very deep stuff... An appropriate reply to this would be "Ahlan Beek"; with Beek meaning "with you", it translates loosely to "I feel at home because I'm with you (among family)". A gentle reply to a gentle welcoming. Paramount Fine Foods is a modern stand alone building pretty much in the middle of nowhere. With clean lines and sand tones mixed with deep the browns of the furniture, it creates a warm and relaxed dining environment. We were seated by the hostess with menus and water was brought to us shortly after. The kitchen is visible to the patrons and there is an island bar where fresh juices are made and desserts are displayed. There is also a decent size patio naturally shaded by trees from the mature neighbourhood. Inside there is a micro play area for the kids (see pics), probably good for up to 4-5 yrs old and a great way to prevent claustrophobia by starting them young. The dining concept here consists of semi table service. Once you've decided on our selections, you go up to the counter to place our order and pay for it. Service personnel will bring it to your table once the food is ready. The menus covered all the basic fares: dips & spreads, soups & salads, wraps, entrées, and family platters to share. But then there was more, dishes using breads like Saj (wraps) and Manakeesh (pizzas). While we were going through the menu, we were served with fresh piping hot pitas. These were unlike any I've ever had. They were massive, I'm talking bigger than your head massive! Unfortunately they were not served with anything, and when asked, the staff recommended a side of hummus (+$). Since I was going to pay anyway, I opted for Toum instead. I let my family decide the bill of fare for the evening and we ended up with three plates; Fattoush Salad with an added lamb skewer, Chicken and Beef Shawarma with fries, and Mini Mixed Grill with Rice. The Shawaram was served with pickled vegetables, and either tahini (sesame), toum (garlic), hummus, or some combination of them. Fattoush. One of my favourite salads. I was hoping they would use Saj rather than flatbread; but in the end it was just hope, the salad came with pita. Still, fresh greens and spices, the salad itself was quite good. The lamb skewer I had added also didn't disappoint. Not as tender as I hoped, but gaminess was minimal. 4 stars. Shawarma. The beef was more flavourful than the chicken, but the portion seemed a little on the small side. The spices were not as prominent and I wasn't able to detect any cumin or tumeric which I enjoy when used in proper proportions. 2,5 stars. Skeweres. All skewers were grilled over an open flame and were charred nicely. But the pieces were on the small side, causing them to dry out a bit. Shish Tawouk (Chicken Skewer). Small portion (4 pcs). Little flavour. 2,5 stars. Shish Kebab (Beef Skewer). Even smaller pieces than the tawouk! And fewer as well (3 pcs). 2 stars. Kafta. This was cooked nicely, and well spiced, and was easily the best of all the proteins. The only downfall for me with this was that it was 100% beef rather than a beef/lamb mixture. 3,5 stars. Rice. Long grain white. Cooked nicely, but wasn't buttered... I think I've been spoiled by the homemade stuff from friends... 2,5 stars. Sauces. These came in small take out containers (1oz). For sauce, that's way too little. Toum. Whipped garlic, EVOO, and lemon juice. Light, white, and airy, mmmm mmmm good! 3,5 stars. Tahini. Slightly on the watery side. Light on the roasted sesame. 2,5 stars. Hummus. Chick peas. Good consistency, could have flavoured it up some to give it a punch. 3 stars. The venue overall is very good, classy and casual at the same time with the choice of indoor or open air. I love the fact that the area is not busy, and think it's a great place for a date, or just to enjoy a nice summer evening eating out. But be prepared to shell out a few more bucks as they're priced slightly more than other places. To me, these margins are offset by the venue. For this reason, I think I would return. When I do, I'm definitely going to try the Saj and Manakeesh! The food barely passes the grade to me, I've definitely had better in terms of flavour; however, a couple of non common breads and a great venue is enough to warrant a bump up from 2 to 3 stars. ila al-liqaa... We were at the IKEA close by and stopped by for a quick lunch, all of us were famished. The family friend we were with has certain diet restrictions but Paramount caters well to it and has something for everyone. We were seated immediately, large space, it was about 2 so not to many people around about two other large groups. Good place for groups. We ordered about 4-5 things between three of us and a kid. The zataar with labneh was fantastic, thick spread of labneh on the pizza crust and could just be eaten like that. They serve bread for the table and we got a hummus to go with it, another great choice. We have yet to try The other options. But this is a great place if you are a Vegetarian and have special diet preferences, not too many places have as many options. I discovered a hot fried chicken place called 'krispo' on ubereats that is apparently part of this restaurant, and they have what I had been casually hoping/praying/searching for... a meatless Nashville hot fried chick'n sandwich! Was so excited to discover this and finally ordered some last night. It wasn't as saucy as I was hoping (more of a dry spice than a hot sauce) but it was a very nice level of heat. Now they have this Krispo Chicken thing they are doing and it seems to be a hit or miss on quality...but overall they just don't care about their customers. I ordered the new meatless chicken sandwich dipped in nashville hotsauce that they keep advertising. They gave me a regular MEAT chicken sandwich and no hot sauce. That's a HUGE issue for people that want vegan...and end up biting into chicken. Then they gave me regular fries instead of the "delicious" waffle fries they upsold me to. Also the chicken rolls that state they come in TWO's, they only gave me one. This location is even outfitted with a kids play area (similar to McDonalds PlayPlace) where kids can climb play structures and go down slides. We also ordered the chicken shawarma Saj sandwich to go as a snack - in my opinion this as close to the real chicken shawarma wrap you get in the Middle East. I've lived in Kuwait for 18 years - and till now I've yet to enjoy a real chicken shawarma like they serve back there -- for starters, any joint that serves their chicken shawarma in a pita with loads of vegetables is not a real chicken shawarma. Back in the Middle East, a shawarma is considered a light snack - and you can have 2 or 3 of them in one sitting. The shawarma chicken is wrapped in a light Saj bread (not a heavy pita) .. with some garlic sauce, tahina, a bit of pickle, and a few fries inside the wrap - that's it! (no lettuce, tomatoes, or onions - don't confuse the delicate shawarma for the Donair or the Giro). Anyway, not to go off on a tangent - but I thought Paramounts version of the chicken shawarma Saj sandwich came close to the kind of chicken shawarma I remember eating when I was living in the Middle East. I've dined at this location on an occasion or two and the food quality, service and portions are always delicious and consistent. This was until I decided to order delivery. I ordered a shawarma sandwich and fattoush salad for delivery one afternoon and the end result was extremely disappointing. I've had lunch from the Liberty Village Paramount Fine Foods on several occasions. Each time delicious. Today, I got to try their huge 'burbs location. I was in Etobicoke for IKEA, naturally, and afterwards me and my date needed a lunch. It's January, so we're eating healthy. Also, naturally. There are a few things about the menu that can be critiqued (bland rice, tiny portions of dressings and sauces but just ask for more, chicken and beef shawarma meat is dry) but there are far more that are wonderful - fattoush salad dressing is amazing as well as the salad, the mezza plate is beyond delicious and an incredible bargain especially with the gigantic just made pitas...the family platters are a good deal, desserts on point and the fusion items and new ideas keep on coming. Service at this location is not always perfect, but they have always been friendly. The most amazing thing about the place is the owner who has strived to come up with great options and deals through the pandemic, keeping workers employed and food on our tables. Sitting here with a giant mound of rice which is supposed to be their shawarma platter. At first I thought it's way too much rice but once you taste how bad the shawarma is you'll be eating a lot more of the rice. The beef shawarma is dry and gamey, the chicken shawarma is rubbery. Sure if you order it in a wrap they'll just cover it in garlic and you won't notice but taste the meat and chicken on it own and you'll see hat I'm referring to. Their humous is decent but don't get their hot sauce. It's basically spicy tomato sauce. Service was horrible. I was given a warm can of pop, had to ask for utensils after my food had arrived, not one person has asked me if I need anything or how everything is. I like how it's like so laid back and there is no pressure to rush! My boyfriend and I once sat here for a good 3 hours! I always get the shawarma salad or shawarma plate! It's got a playground for kids in the back that is inside of a glass room so you can't hear them screaming or "having fun". There is also a prayer room which I thought was so cool!!!! read more

A fantastically flavourful meal, amazing mezze plate and The Paramount Special beverage was out of this world. A basket of piping hot and puffy pita straight from the kitchen was delivered within minutes of being seated. The service was great and Susan, the floor manager, not only seated us but took the time to go through and explain the menu and the way the restaurant operates since it was our first time there. Will definitely be going back and recommending it to all my friends. Middle Eastern fare in a lovely restaurant with great service, good atmosphere and comfortable seating. I really don't understand all the bad reviews for this place. I always thought it was more of a sit down fine dining type place til my wife finally took me over the Christmas break. Right after sitting at our table waters were dropped off and fresh pitas and we hadn't even ordered yet. I jokingly said we should just eat this. You place your order at the counter and then everything is brought to you in lightning speed. I ordered the Shawarma dinner and we had a bunch of dips for the pita. The dips were great though I felt the tabouli was too minty for my liking. The shawarma dinner was good, but not the best I've ever had. Overall I would definitely go back and try some other items on the menu as it is a really cool concept and the food was decent. I crossed over three lanes of traffic as I was so excited Paramount had finally opened. When I arrived, there were tons of staff on duty, yet few patrons. Someone had told me to go over to the cash and place my takeout order. I waited about three minutes while the cashier explained something to one of the servers. She finally took my order - just a beef shawarma wrap ($7.00+). Like most Paramount locations, I asked if I should go and tell them what I want on my sandwich but she said just to wait in the other lineup and they'll serve me. I waited behind this other couple for about 15 minutes (no joke) to get my shawarma - keep in mind they were six guys behind the counter and all the food looked prepared. Finally, I asked one of the servers if I could tell them how to prepare my sandwich. He panicked and said, "oh, quickly tell me what you DON'T want on it?" I advised that I didn't want lettuce and tomatoes. I heard him go over and tell them three times, "no lettuce, no tomatoes!" Anyway, when I finally got it, it felt light as air. Got home and there was not even a touch of tahini, hot sauce, onion, garlic sauce nothing - just a teensy bit of meat and a tons of pickles; it should have been called Pickle Shawarma with the meat being the condiment. AND by the way, they put tomatoes - what if I was allergic??? It wasn't even wrapped properly - just folded (see pic). The little bit of meat was kind of tough and had no seasoning. The only saving grace was the three pitas that were on the house but what could I eat them with?!? Although I LOVE food, I'm not really a big eater but I was still hungry. Went to the Queensway location and ordered the "beef shawarma pate" for $15.00. Staff was friendly and the restaurant looked nice and clean, however as I returned home and opened the package I was surprised to see that the beef shawarma plate consisted of ONLY rice and beef. There were no sauces, salad or anything else except for three huge pieces of pita bread, the rice and the beef. This is not a shawarma plate; it should be called "the beef, rice and nothing else plate". I can't believe I played nearly $16 for this...it doesn't even include a drink. I have eaten shawarma all over the city and can attest that Paramount Queensway version is very bland and is definitely not even close to being worth the money. I was expecting the usual tahini sauce, some salad, and maybe some tabouleh or hummus, that a "shawarma plate" usually includes. I then placed my order with the cashier and it arrived very quickly, hot and fresh from the oven. Tips: - there is a children's play place - the washroom is very clean. So went to Paramount for our 9th anniversary. We have been so many times before and are usually never disappointed. This was the one exception. We ordered the mezza plate, which is a plate of 3 dips humus, baba ganoush, and Tabbouleh. Our mains were the chicken and beef shawarma, I also order a side of falafels and the shish tawouk (spicy). The amazing pita bread came and it was warm as usual. We enjoyed eating it while waiting for our mezza plate. After about 5-10 mins the waiter brought out our main courses. When we asked him "oh is our mezza plate", his reply was what killed me he was like "oh it didn't come out? Well can I get you anything else?" Nothing about oh sorry we forgot or let me go check. Just is there anything else we wanted. The main dishes were as expected absolutely delicious. Just would have really loved our humus. If you have a chance go to the Paramount restaurant. Paramount seems to be expanding insanely quickly and that worries me as that means over time the food quality wink not be the same from location to location. I was anticipating this location opening and finally its open! Looking at the other reviews I see that a lot of people have not been loving the new paramount location I don't know if they maybe has a rough couple of opening weeks or if the bad reviews were written by people who were expecting something different but when I went on a Saturday afternoon and it was fairly busy but the service was great and the food was fantastic as paramount always is. I ordered the chicken shawarma plate with rice and fries and it was awesome as usually. The food was tastey and filling. A tip for those who plan on going here if you are dining in you pick a table sit down look over the menu then go to the cash order and pay then the food is brought to your table as well as complimentary naan. The breads delicious and the garlic sauce that comes with the shawarma plate is one of my favourites its so good with the fries and well as with the bread. I used to be a huge fan of Paramount, I've been eating at this franchise (not this specific location) for the last 5 years. My favourite location will always be the one near the Eaton Centre. Although I really enjoy the beef manakeesh, the other offerings are a disappointment. There are much better middle eastern restaurants to try (Tabule being one of them). I ordered the salmon plate from this location and it was very dry and flavourless. It tasted like they reheated an old piece of fish. Huge disappointment. Waitress was very friendly, location was clean and spacious and I did not feel rushed. Food was a letdown though. read more
