Dishonest!! Overpriced, too!
I was looking for a new dentist and a friend recommended Paragon. Everyone was very nice and as others have said the building was clean, even fancy (free water bottles, etc.).
However, I didn't realize that:
1. They were super overpriced. Considering the cost of the dental work, the water bottles were far from free LOL. I paid less for dental work done by a specialist (endodontist?) than I paid here. So check your insurance and see if it's worth the extra you will pay here if you don't have a lot of extra money to spend.
2. More importantly, I was FULLY honest with Paragon at ALL times. I paid them every penny they said I would owe them for the root canal I had done with them, and on-time. I gave them my insurance card and I told them that I had been to the dentist within the year and might not have enough left for the root canal they said I needed even though I had no pain.
I wasn't sure I wanted the surgery but they said I needed it. So I double checked that they called my insurer and verified my eligibility. They said yes and I was fine, blah blah and that I should get the surgery done and not wait.
WELL, it turns out they made a mistake. The whole point of the dental office requesting your paperwork from the insurer is so that they can find out how much coverage you have. They ordered my paperwork, received it, and then apparently forgot to look at it (or lied about it)!!! They TOLD me my coverage was sufficient but it was NOT. (BOTH bc they are priced so high AND because I had previously had dental work done in the same year, which I had told them more than once, they were off by more than $1,000.)
Had they looked at the paperwork as they'd said they'd done, we could have simply waited until January for the surgery, when my insurance benefits would be available in full again. I was in no pain and the surgery took place instead in the middle of December, just weeks too early!!
To make matters worse, they sent ME the full bill for THEIR mistake. Another $1,000 or so!! I called my insurer who confirmed that they had definitely received the paperwork. But when I spoke to someone at the dental office, I was lied to and told that they had only "asked by phone" and so "didn't know". Luckily, my insurer kept notes! The dental office didn't want to admit THEIR mistake. But they knew I had paid every penny they had told me the surgery would cost me (almost or over $800 I believe) and since the receptionist understood why my paying the extra bill seemed very wrong, they didn't send me another bill after we spoke. I figured that they accepted that I shouldn't be punished for their mistake (and/or dishonesty), and had decided to do the right thing and accept responsibility.
Now...almost a year later, I get a letter from a collections company!!! This makes me so angry because I am the type of person who pays my debts honestly but THIS is not my debt, I paid my debt of $800! This is THEIR fault! I will be getting an attorney if they don't remove this debt. I am disgusted by the way they handled this situation. I can only hope that there is someone new at the office who didn't know the whole story and did this on accident. In the meantime, I have obviously changed dentists, even before receiving this collections letter. The dental staff did a good job but not any better than anyone else, and at a higher price for me even if I'd had the remaining coverage for it that they'd promised me I did, which I did not. :(
EDIT: I would like to add one compliment, however. Because I was hesitant about the surgery and not wanting to have it (because I have a neurological disorder and because I was in no pain from the tooth that apparently needed a root canal), Hector, an office staff member, brought over an educational chart to show me what a root canal is and how it works. He explained it in detail, and I thought that was great. We should all have a better understanding of our bodies and of medical procedures. (Of course, maybe I should have listened to my gut instinct and still run the other way after how this all turned out, bleh. But in any case, I can say this one good thing about this office, and that the office staff women were generally pleasant and kind as well. I wish they could have just done their job, though :( And not cheated me. I would never recommend them to anyone after this, "nice" or not). read more
