I found Orenda Salon on the Vagaro app and was able to self-book an appointment for the next day. Orenda is located attached to Beanie's Laundromat but is NOT inside in the laundromat. The inside is so attractive and subtle, with a cool black-and-white checkered floor, tons of plants and the cutest bar cart I've ever seen. I really appreciated that they are still taking COVID protocol seriously, including wearing a mask properly, and that I was the only person in the salon being serviced when I visited. I highly recommend her because she is young and sassy and we had a hilarious conversation while she was doing my hair. She put in highlights with foil and it looked fabulous afterwards. It looked totally natural, not big zebra stripes (although I am sure that she could do that, too, if you prefer that kind) and there was no color bleeding at the base of the foils because she has great technique and knows what she's doing! Velvet Turtle also gets a nice mix of folks--some profs, some students (it is very close to a college campus) college support staff, some senior citizens from Kendall, cool hipsters, kids, parents--all kinds of clients. Every time I have gone there, there has been good atmosphere with nice conversation. You can tell that all the stylists care about their clients.

I told him I wanted about 3 years of damage cut off and I was prepared to lose several inches of length and he cut less than 1. The hair color application was super sloppy - I do way better when I dye it at home! The cost was cheap, but I would happily have paid more for a better result. I had to immediately run home and try to wash the dye from my neck and face and the steam from the shower made the color run everywhere like Rudy Giuliani that one time. I'm no expert but I don't think that's supposed to happen with a professional job.... super bummed out. Sorry guys - I love to love a local business but I can't this time. Update : I ended up washing my whole head because it was staining everything. Now my whole scalp and fingernails are stained blue.
