I dearly loved this truck but my Orinda neighbors voted it off the island. AAT had redone the truck box and it was new and impressive. My next truck was smaller and was a pickup truck that had previously been converted to a dual ram dump using the existing truck body. The AAT guys were a little dismissive of this truck as it was the smallest one on their lot. However, it works for me perfectly. AAT made sure to caution mme to use 10 ply tires, which hold 80 PSI, and as a result, I can hold about 3,000 pounds in the current truck. These guys are super helpful. Highly recommend them. And by the way, I have been there several times and have not been accosted by a dog. They're not in a great neighborhood, but the lot itself is safe. Hope this helps. If you go to the dump as often as I do, you really should go see AAT about a dump truck. You won't go back!

We've rented from Hengehold twice for Burning Man, 2024 (15' box truck) and 2025 (24' box truck)…read more We've had bad experiences with other rental companies in the past (U-Haul, Enterprise, you name it) so we wanted to go with a local company that seemed to invest a lot in a great customer experience. The first time had no issues. The second time, the truck failed on us Friday night [more details are below], and we had to get a last-minute rental from Enterprise, while also locating a parking lot where we could leave the faulty truck. Hengehold was not reachable because they are not open on the weekends. Then, we had to spend time/energy unloading and reloading a new truck, and a friend had to stick around on Monday to eventually get that truck towed. Hengehold refunded us the full amount. Knowing the Burning Man general schedule (which is the same every year), and as a business that must draw in a ton of revenue from the event, I'm surprised that they are not open on that Saturday/Sunday to help with these issues and provide replacements. I'm leaving 2 stars here (instead of 1) because their customer service (when they're open) has been easy to talk to and work with (including the refund part), and because we still had a positive experience the first time. We will still consider renting with them in the future. ================== More details on the second time --- We drove the truck from Palo Alto to San Francisco on Friday, and spent the day loading in our supplies. We drove the truck out that night from SF headed towards Reno, and within 1 mile it started malfunctioning. The dash said there was an SCR malfunction (see picture) & the truck started beeping. We called a technician (not affiliated with Hengehold, since it was out of hours) who spent an hour with us running tests and said there was a clogged DEF catalytic converter. He hypothesized that possibly 1) just over time they wear down or 2) bad DEF in there that caused it to happen faster than normal timeline. He said there would be large overhaul of the system needed and that it was not fixable over night. "It's absolutely not getting to Reno". When we started driving again it wouldn't go more than 2 mph.

The fact is we were having a few issue. He told me to bring it back and he would take care of it. Ray and his staff are professional and service oriented. Ismail took a look right away and asked one of his mechanics to bring the car in for a closer inspection. Within about 15 minutes, they identified the issue as a simple misalignment, adjusted the door, and had it closing normally again. What impressed me most was the difference compared with a couple of other auto shops I had visited. They told me I would need to leave the car overnight just for an estimate, that the door might need to be removed, parts could need to be ordered, and the repair could take 10-15 days. Ismail was able to resolve the issue in less than 15 minutes without replacing any parts. I really appreciated his honesty, professionalism, efficiency, and willingness to help. It is refreshing to find someone who focuses on solving the problem instead of making the repair more complicated than it needs to be. I highly recommend Ismail and his shop. I had a minor incident that left considerable scratches, markings, and a small dent or two on my 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander (not white). I dropped by just to get an estimate, and even though I didn't make an appointment, Elias was cool & considerate enough to still take me and checked it out. Where one collision repair shop in Fruitvale estimated $1800 (to take the whole panel off and work it), and another in Hayward estimated over $500, Elias hooked me up with the MOST unbelievable subtracting discount! I think & imagine I would only see something reserved to be offered in that degree given to a business owners' personal family or friends! To add to the exceptional, he and his guy offered to take care of me right there and then even though it was the late in the day (and it's not like I didn't see other cars being worked on too). I waited with him in his office, and we were just shooting the breeze. Elias is just the coolest, chillest, most laid back, most personable guy. A guy that's eager to do you a favor, do what he can for you; completely why you can see how I described him/them as an establishment/person that will treat & take care of you like a family or friend. And if you are big dog lover like I am, there's a bonus with his office/business, and I loved hanging out with him and his dog (I think his name was Jake). That dog is just a big teddy bear that just wants your attention and to play with you. In the end, for what he offered to do it for and considering it was just what they were able to fit in late in the day, I would say it got back to 98% there (so much so I even offered to give more $, which he wouldn't take [would only accept this Yelp review and pets to the dog]). To the extent that when I very apprehensively/fearfully showed it to my very scrutinizing-type wife, she accepted it and even took to it without having me take it back and get any more work done (to complete it by the last 2 percent; get it to the full 100%)! This goes to show that this place is as surprisingly impressive and proficient as I was surprised by my very scrutinizing wife's acceptance & approval. Couple notes about this place -- try not to park in the back, they do work there with cars coming in & out (it's not just for temporarily placing cars like I thought haha); just park in front of the garage opening (he prefers it right outside his office to see what has to be done). Also, as mentioned before, it's best to make an appointment even for an estimate. Elias (and Jake[?]) and his guy (I really wish I got his name; because I highly doubt I would've gotten such an awesome outcome if he wasn't willing as well) are the best! I can't imagine finding a cooler, most considerate guy in this. He/They did it with such quality work (look at my other estimates & what it would take) where I'm off the hook with my rather scrutinizing wife, and he/they did me the hugest favor with what he/they offered to do it for (that I imagine like only reserved for family or friends), I'm sure he'd treat & do the same for you or anybody.
