Between Houston and Waco we were starving! With an hour left in our drive we couldn't wait and randomly Yelped nearby food. Pappy's popped up and we stopped! We all got croissant breakfast sandwiches. I'm so ashamed to say I was SHOCKED at how good it was. Calvert seems like a sleepy little town along Hwy. 6. I assumed the bread may be a little dry and the food sub par! I'm sorry Pappy's, I misjudged you. It was EGGSELENT!!! The croissant was fresh as could be and the ingredients were awesome. We had two bacon, egg and cheese, one ham, egg and cheese, and one steak, egg and cheese. All of us were so happy with our choices! We left Pappy's and Calvert well fed and pleased to discover this Texas gem!! Take away: Try Pappy's on your next road trip. BTW check out the Wildflowers on the way up and back! read more

Yikes!!! In the middle of nowhere Calvert TX.... Ana amazing lady and HS counselor recommended I stop by here and have lunch. OMG! From the second you walk in you know its going to be good. It smells amazing, very clean restaurant, clean restrooms.... They have a fat boys dream of a display case with all the goodies you can imagine: turtle cheesecake, cake balls, other pies... UUUHHHMAYZING!! I ordered the "dont go BACON my heart" burger.. The bbq sauze was not over powering, the blue cheese (not a big fan) added the perfect kick. I think i could have done without the extra crisp side of the burger, but it didnt take away from its awesomeness. The buns where great. French fries... they were good. Not like these super amazing gotta have more, but, they were good enough to wanna finish them up. Ill try the pie at home. :) read more

What a delightful experience. On my drive from Waco to Houston, I passed through this town and wanted to stop because it looked so cool. Being a little hungry from an hour of driving, i wanted to try this cafe. I was greeted upon arrival and encouraged to try the steak and egg breakfast sandwich. It was SO good. I bought a tshirt to help remember the experience and got a coffee to go. Highly recommend Pappys read more

Pappy’s Bakery - Oreo Cheesecake - Bakeries Near Me - Calvert, Texas

Pappy's Bakery was AMAZING!!! The owner, Becky, was gracious and kind. A friend and I stopped in for some quick snacks on our way to Houston and were pleasantly surprised! The food was delicious - we had a chicken salad on croissant, Ruben on Rye, broccoli soup, and southwest chicken soup. All of it was fresh, delicious, and perfectly seasoned. We also splurged for dessert - one unique to them and their best seller: Oh Joey. Oh. My. Word. Worth the trip and the calories! Make a trip to Calvert and Pappys. It's works the drive! The only problem about living in the same town as Pappy's Bakery is all the weight I can put on by eating there or taking out. Everything is sooooo good! The breads, the baked goods, the sandwiches and soups. I can go on and on and the people that work there are soooo friendly. I am so glad Calvert has a place like Pappy's. read more

Lovely stop for lunch when traveling through Texas! The atmosphere was country elegant with Frank Sinatra playing in the cafe. I say cafe because it was way more that a bakery. They have breakfast and lunch as well as baked goods. We had burgers and the quality from the meat to the bun was outstanding. I had a daily special which was a bacon blue cheese burger that was topped with bacon jam and fried onions for a wonderful flavor profile! Their cheesecake was also especially fantastic. The ladies were a pleasure to visit with and dog friendly with an outdoor table. read more

Stopped for a break on a road trip. Bacon egg and cheese croissant was delicious. Friendly staff makes this wonderful bakery a stand out.

My husband and I stopped in on our way to college station. We split a fried chicken sandwich and a cup of potato soup. They were pretty busy for 2 pm on a Tuesday. We didn't wait long and the chicken was obviously freshly fried. The sandwich was good but needed pickles. The dill sauce was the highlight. The bun was good but a little soggy on the bottom by the time we got our order. The soup was decent but weird. It was really spicy. I've never encountered spicy potato soup. It was also clabbered, which is off putting visually but didn't really change the flavor. read more

Food was great, must try if passing through Calvert. Breakfast and lunch were both tasty

Food is okay but the service is great! Would eat there often as I can! I recommend this restaurant to everyone!

Not just a bakery! Sandwiches, hamburgers, wraps & salads. Been meaning to stop in every time we drive through Calvert & today, even though we were running late, I pulled over. So glad we did!!! I was just planning on maybe getting a muffin or some other pastry. But the delicious smell & interesting menu changed my mind. I had the steak & egg breakfast sandwich on a homemade brioche bun! Very good! Also very rich & deliciously creamy potato soup with homemade croutons. My friend had the grilled ham sandwich with a pineapple sauce. Very good!!! We didn't forget the dessert. We had the buttermilk-pecan pie, chocolate chip and pecan cookies, the oatmeal sandwich cookies were delicious! It was all wonderful. Add to that a charming decor & very friendly counter service & this spot is worth the drive from anywhere!! (sorry no pictures on this visit. We were running late, but so glad we stopped. Will post pictures on next visit which will be soon!) read more

Great sandwiches, the bread is made there. I had the best Ruben I have ate in a long time. The Chicken sandwich with pimento cheese and Sriracha honey sauce was to die for.
