It always starts out so quiet in here. I've been with a few different groups of people. By the time we leave though, it's a decently full. I feel like I "bring" the business. The service is super sweet. My first visit, I was with a really good friend. I didn't know they closed so early. But they didn't rush us out. At all. Have been here a few times now for weekend brunch with family. Pappas has a welcoming vibe, there is plenty of room so you dont get that "cramped" feeling here. The servers are experienced and do a good job. My wife had the meatloaf and she really enjoyed it. I ordered the strawberry crepes and they were really wet. Not once did any server (four of them) acknowledge us, ask us for a drink order or even apologize for the delay in service. Dinner three had Mediterranean combo Gyro meat and things that go with a Gyro without the pita. There were three other items on the plate. Pastitsio, Mousuka and Sponkopita. I've been to this restaurant several times over the years. It has progressively gone downhill. The food today was awful and the waitstaff was horrible. She literally dropped the food items at our table with a loud clunk noise. I was afraid she was going to break the plates. When we asked for butter, real butter, she said ok real butter right? We said yes real butter. She came back with land o lakes spread. That is made from margarine. That was after we waited for our food which was just a chopped steak. It was freezing cold in the place and asked if it could be made warmer by just a bit. She said well you know how it is. It's set at whatever and that's it. So my wife, daughter, and I are from out of town and decided to try this establishment out. It was a Sunday so we knew we had to get there before 10:30-11:00 in the morning so we would not have to wait on a table. After we were seated immediately, the serving staff was very prompt, attentive, and very friendly. The menu had a plethora of different choices and options for food, whether you wanted lunch or dinner (probably why it's brunch...haha). I had ended up getting the meat lovers omelette. Now this is the kicker. I was expecting to get just a regular omelette with a small amount of meat and cheese. When the server had set my plate down in front of me my eyes had widened as big as possible. Not because the omelette was gigantic, because it wasn't huge, but because it was stuffed with meet and the cheese was oozing out of it. Talk about going the extra mile to make a fantastic omelette. Plus there was a decent sized portion of potatoes on the side. Not to mention it was delicious. Plus what is brunch without a cocktail or two. Full bar inside and not expensive at all. The decor inside was what ibwould call transitional. A bit old looking, with some modern flare, with a breakfast diner finish. Yeah I'm not a designer so I have no clue what to call it. They have a HUGE menu so that's to be considered. Probably not a lot of fresh product. But has been good considering. A bit pricey and check your order. The cooks don't always understand what the online tickets mean. I had an order of 4 pancakes for $6.99 and they gave me a single pancake. But the servers were very nice. We had lunch here on a cold day, and so were very happy that soup was one of the choices of sides that came with the sandwiches. When we asked our server if they had avgolemono, the classic Greek egg-lemon soup, she said no, that they only had lemon rice soup....hmmmm...maybe an approximation of the same thing? We ordered it, and it was quite good with a nice velvety texture and a good lemon flavor. The serving size was quite generous for a side portion. For my sandwich, I had the chicken pita. This included a generous serving of grilled chicken breast, peppers, onions and mozzarella cheese served on top of a pita. The ingredients were fresh, and plentiful, but sadly, there was no seasoning at all on the chicken or vegetables. A marinade on the chicken, some oregano, lemon and garlic or something, would have helped a great deal in my opinion. It wasn't bad, just more bland than I prefer. Those who had the gyros said it was good, so that may be a better choice. Service was good and prices were very low, particularly given the portion sizes. read more

What we ate: we had the Irish omelette, which I almost changed the cheese but was happy I left it alone. The Swiss really complemented the hash taste well. Benadic skillet: we requested no cheese do to health reasons for my wife. However, we both liked this plate over the Irish omelette. The sauce was pretty good and everything went well together. We wanted to try this restaurant it wasn't very busy for a Friday night. Our server was very friendly at first. Took our drink order and brought those then we didn't see her for quite a while. Once she finally came back we ordered everything apps and main. Saganaki came out the kid did his best trying to get it lit so no complaints there. It didn't disappoint. When our food came it was all there and fresh --- that was the last time we saw our server for a long time. Well that's not true -- we saw her but she did her best to avoid eye contact and avoid our table. I honestly don't know why. She didn't even come back to ask how our food was or see if we needed anything. When she did stop by the table she was friendly especially to the kids but she really wasn't interested in us. My husbands glass was empty throughout his whole meal. The restaurant itself was clean and comfortable. The food was good we just didn't have a good experience with our service. It did seem like there were a lot of regulars that she spent most of her time chatting with which I understand and it also says a lot of good about this place to have so many regulars. We were seated immediately in the bar area even though complete party had not arrived. We were served water right away and our waiter kept them filled. I go to Greek Restaurants occasionally but there were entrees listed that were not familiar to me. Our waiter was new, he went back to the kitchen to get list of ingredients. I decided to have the Lamb shank with Greek potatoes. The dish was delicious and satisfying. I do not remember what the other 3 had to eat, but they were all very satisfied with their meals. It was not to busy the night we were there, probably due to the weather was not the best. Wind at approximately 40 mph. So the windchill was below zero. We traveled 90 miles to have dinner with my cousins, who live up in northwest Indiana. They picked where to eat and they could not have chosen a better place to eat. Every time I visit my hometown I try to find a good place to eat. It's not easy. Not unless you consider McDonald's or Taco Bell good food. Had lunch a couple days ago at Pappas. You walk in and are immediately inhaling cigarette smoke. The smoking section is just to the right of the entrance. (I cannot believe smoking is still allowed in restaurants) You can smell cigarettes in the non-smoking area of course. Ugh. Service was fast and friendly. The menu is huge. The menu is not exclusively Greek, they serve a wide variety of American standards too. I had the Greek lemon rice soup, which was tasty. My pork cutlet sandwich was a bit overcooked, but the fries were fresh and yummy. Jean had a Reuben that she said was okay. She said the coleslaw was very good and made up for the lackluster sandwich. All in all, probably one of the better restaurants in Crown Point. Unfortunately that's not saying much. read more
