We ordered Hainanese Chicken - it was horrible - the chicken was of the poorest quality. The same goes for the chicken satay - flavor was decent but the chicken itself was beyond the pale. The CKT was meh. Unless they improve their offering, we are done with this place. There are better options for Malaysian food. read more

So fantastic to finally have a halal malaysian spot in town! We tried the roti canal with chicken, the flat noodles with beef, beef steak, chicken fried rice, and Malaysian wings. Located in the street market strip center in Bellaire. We ordered the roti canai , hainan chicken, the fried hainan chicken and the Sam all fried water spinach. The roti canai was so good. It was soft buttery and flaky. I recommend you eat it when it's fresh. Or else it will get hard. The fried Hainan chicken was crispy and came with a rich chicken broth. The original Hainan chicken was average. The Sambal fried water spinach was ok. Not a lot of flavor despite it being surrounded by oily sauce. The roti cani I was delicious. We got both the chicken and the beef curry versions. The chicken was better. Although the beef had good sized pieces , the beef was too dry. We also tried the Hainanese chicken set. It was very nice and moist and the accompanying sauces were delicious. We also ordered the Banana wrapped stingray- this was a huge disappointment. It had a very fishy, ie not fresh, aroma when it was brought to the table. Unfortunately, we've had better Malaysian food in Katy town that was pretty phat. read more

I have never tried Malaysian food before and this was a really excellent introduction! We tried the roti canai which is absolutely a MUST TRY. We also had the beef rendang and the seafood curry laksa which was all amazing and very filling. The three layer tea was good but very very sweet, and reminded me of brown sugar milk tea that you can get at boba shops. Service was excellent and very helpful. I decided to check this place out after driving past it multiple times and I must say it did not disappoint me at all! I ordered 1) the Plain Roti Cano and it was alright, they served it with 3 different sauces and they were all tasty. 2)The stir fried flat noodle is my favorite dish of all time so of course I gotta order it with beef. It was absolutely delicious, hence I wish there was more noodle and less sprout haha. 3)The hanainese chicken was great as well, the soy sauce is not too salty, chicken was well cooked, the chicken skin isn't too fatty or oily like most places. The service is excellent! They were very polite and respectful, on top of that they gave us a complimentary coffee, if that don't make you happy, I don't know what would! Got the chicken satay skewers and they were super yummy and flavorful even without the peanut sauce. The peanut sauce was a flavor bomb, and complimented the skewers super well. Also, all of their food is Halal except one chicken item (they will point out what dish isn't halal), and they don't serve any pork. Cannot follow instructions for takeouts. I make this food often at home, so I know how piping hot the food can be, thanks to the significant amount of oil involved. We asked for the bottom of the plastic containers to be lined with aluminum foil, to reduce the likelihood of us ingesting melted plastic along with the food. Ironically the lids were covered with aluminum foil, not the bottom of the containers, which does very little in mitigating the risk of eating plastic along with the food. Really? I have been to Papparich before, including taking 4 families there on one occasion. Today I went there for a late lunch, it was empty. The waitress with short dark hair was extremely rude. I ordered one item to eat in restaurant and another item to go. She doesn't understand English, so she made a mistake in the order. She brought 2 plates of the same order for me to eat in the restaurant and a third order to-go. That's 3 orders total instead of 2 orders. She packed up the one order I asked for eating in the restaurant as to-go order and doubled the other one order, which was supposed to be for eating in restaurant and made that as takeaway order. I understand it may have been a mistake. But then she started arguing with me saying, "you said, you said" vehemently and relentlessly. Utter nonsense!!! I should have walked away without paying for such stupid behavior. When she continued arguing and staring me down, I had to tell her, I will not go back to her restaurant if she continues to argue when I'm already saying, "okay, maybe there was a mistake made, can you please also pack the extra roti canoi order to-go". She continued on staring, glaring and arguing. She's the one who doesn't understand English. I don't speak mandarin. There's no reason to argue especially when I was being polite and kind. Very very rude person!! It's so odd. Last time there was an older lady who made accommodations for the kids we had with us. This time this lady ruined it for me and this one rude behavior is enough for me. I asked for everything to be packed as to-go and paid for the 3 orders, instead of two total orders. I still didn't walk away without paying. She was still rude, staring and glaring, shaking her head. Such rudeness is unacceptable and the drama and the scene making can easily be avoided by not going there again. I hope management reads this. I or my friends will never return to papparich. I can make these dishes myself. It's only occasionally when I don't feel like making these dishes at home, I and my friends used to go there. Anyway didn't expect this type of rude behavior. The place maybe doing great business but obviously they don't care about their customers who aren't from apac region. That's exactly the type of feeling I was left with today. The waitress lady just didn't care how rude she was. She had to be right. Incredible, it's the worst type of restaurant experience I've ever had. The fact that I still paid is only because I thought that, someone in the kitchen having prepared the food. Anyway you've just lost about 20 customers who will never return to your restaurant as I've already informed my friends and family. We used to live in Malaysia for a few years so when I found out Papparich opened in Houston I was so excited because my experience in Malaysian restaurants outside of Malaysia has not been so great. The menus was nostalgic and had all my favorite dishes I had not eaten in years! I had a good experience here overall, service was fine and the food was tasty, but one of the entrees we ordered was cold when it arrived. The rest of the food was hot, fresh, and cooked well but the steamed chicken on my Hainanese chicken rice plate was definitely not up to par as the rest of our order and was so cold. The staff was nice about it and the manager corrected the mistake very quickly but i hope it was just a one time thing. Despite my one little complaint the restaurant is nice and i will be coming back with my family. read more

I have loved Malaysian food ever since I had my first bowl of laksa at the Singapore airport at the age of 9. Since then, I have been chasing the unique combination of rich, concentrated flavors that are at the core to Malaysian cuisine. Eating at PappaRich was my moment of finally achieving that goal. Malaysian restaurants are not common so finding that this global franchise had opened a location in Houston was so exciting. The food here is fresh, authentic, and delicious. We started off with the roti canai, a impossible to skip appetizer that is a flakey, layered bread with delicious spicy and mild dipping curries on the side. Then we tried the char kway teow. If you like the flat pan fried noodles of pad kee mao or pad see ew from Thai cuisine, you must try its Malaysian cousin, which boasts of more smoky, wok charred flavor. Although it looks like simple stir fried noodles, the perfect smokiness to this dish is a result of delicate balance through the hands of an experienced cook and was a treat to try. Finally, the star of the night was the beef rendang. The flavors in this dry beef curry are so complex and exquisite, my partner and I were absolutely quiet when eating it. The sweet gravy side, the coconut rice, and the pickled vegetables only augmented the experience. I am definitely coming back here to return to my first love, seafood laksa, and to also try their kopi, a delicious milky sweet Indonesian coffee. read more

Nasi Lemak had pungent (in the best way) flavors that I could not ignore. Sizzling tofu omg so freakin good - one of the best iterations of this dish I've ever had. The only thing I thought was mediocre was the Nasi Goreng - the fry of the rice left the rice soggy for some reason and the beef was tough with a muted flavor. I give PappaRich a pass on the Nasi Goreng though because of how good everything else was and I can't wait to try more dishes. read more
