I first came across Papi's Tacos back in 2019 when I came to this area to check out Cheesus Chrust food truck (no longer there) and had dessert at Aloha Rolls (no longer there either). Papi's Tacos was across from Aloha Rolls. Alex had the football game on (Philadelphia vs someone), and we just started talking. We sat there for an hour talking. He was super friendly and cool. He even offered me a beer. I was skeptical that the food would be as good as back home (I'm from Southern California), but, upon learning he was from Santa Ana, I figured he knew what good Mexican food should taste like. I didn't buy anything then, as I was already full and had food left over, but lamented it. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, I specifically drove from Waikiki to this area to get food from Papi's Tacos. I do recommend the drive along the windward side of the island if you aren't pressed for time. I got the super burrito with carne asada and my GF got two carne asada tacos. Both were amazing. If you're on Oahu, make the trip, you won't regret it. Hale'iwa is a nice little time to check out in the area as well. read more

Papi's is a food truck in a North Shore neighborhood institution that includes the famous Giovanni's (too buttery for me). You will find food trucks aplenty anchored by Seven Brothers kitchen and market. We got the three taco combo to try the shrimp, fish, and carnitas. They are relatively small and come in threes. Made with corn tortillas, cilantro, and a sour cream- guacamole sauce they are full of flavor. Beans and rice come on the side and being from Phoenix I know tacos and these stand up. Seating is plentiful on this Sunday with picnic tables everywhere and beautiful weather. The aloha service was suspect and didn't really feel like the lady was there to do anything but take orders. Made a quick stop at the Sugar Mill on the way to Northshore to grab lunch on the go and glad I stumbled upon this shop. I haven't tried much Mexican food in the island but I can say this is legit stuff. Yes, taste was slightly different than in CA but it was still delicious. We stopped here to eat after Dole Plantation and beach trip. Ordered the tree taco plate and one shrimp taco. There was a small line but it got bigger and food was taking awhile to come out. We ordered no onions and no cilantro (kids meal) on the three tacos. When we finally got our food the tacos were covered with onions and cilantro. Wow wow wow. SO GOOD. And HUGE portions for the price. Friendly server took our order and it came out really quick too! They have a picnic table just to the side of the truck that has an umbrella for some shade - great spot to sit and chow down on your tacos, burritos, and more while watching the crowd and scoping out dessert. Mr husband is from California and is Mexican/Spanish, so he's always on the hunt for good Mexican food on the island. We were in north shore today and he saw this so decided to try it. We got a 3-taco plate (carnitas, carne asada, and shrimp) which came with Spanish rice and beans. It was about $16 We took turns trying out each item: SPANISH RICE: woah. That was the WORST Spanish rice we both had in our life.. overcooked, crumbly, and poorly seasoned BEANS: not as bad as the rice, but still watery CARNITAS TACO: overcooked, too salty CARNE ASADA: woah, even more salty lol SHRIMP TACO: shrimp was cooked well, but still a little salty but this was the best taco of the 3 Will we be back? Staff and service were good, and the food truck ambiance fits with the North shore vibe. I just did not think their "street tacos" were very special. Went to Papi's on a brutally hot day. Had been eating so much shrimp that I wanted something different along the North Shore. Fish tacos were great and I had a carnitas and carne asada street taco which were also tasty. Papi's is located in the Northern area of the food truck lot near the poke and taro stands. Amazingly the only close by place for fish tacos is at the golf club at Turtle Bay which is extremely expensive. $4 a taco is a pretty good deal. New favorite Mexican spot on this whole island. I still love the tacos at Habitant in Nordstrom but Papi's has more like street tacos which are equally amazing. I ordered the 3 taco plate which I could not finish, so maybe just 2 tacos would have been perfect for me. I tried the chipotle chicken, carnitas and carne asada and definitely enjoyed the chipotle chicken one the most. I feel like usually chicken in tacos is dry so I was very pleased with how moist and juicy it was. My boyfriend and our friend ordered the quesadilla which looked more like a burrito to me. They said it was delicious and super filling. You definitely don't need any of the side salsas, the dishes have more than enough flavor wow!!! Not everyone knows this about me, as I am ambiguously beige, but I am a Mexican and I know a good taco. Some are merely acquainted with the taco life, I was born into this taco life, molded by it. So of course I yearned for a taco in Honolulu and had a terrible taco at another place before I came here for salvation. These tacos are FIREEEEE. I happened upon this truck on an evening when my whole group wanted some sweet boba, and I was starving and needed some late night salty food. Nothing hits like late night tacos, and WOW, nothing else our whole trip to Hawaii satisfied the way these tacos did. I had the shrimp tacos, a carne asada, and the chicken. I don't typically go for chicken tacos because chicken is so meh, but a chipotle lime marinade sounded so appealing I had to go for it. I could not believe how tender and juicy the chicken was! I actually preferred it to the steak. The shrimp tacos were perfectly cooked, the tortillas had the idea amount of fried crispiness to them, and the salsas drizzled on top only emphasized the freshness of the shrimp. We tried the fish tacos, shrimp tacos and fried avocado tacos. I appreciated that i was asked if i wanted a dairy free option. The fish tacos were good. The fish was moist and had good flavor but could have used a relish or a sauce of some kind for some added flavor. The shrimp tacos had some spice and we liked them a lot. The fried avocado taco was tasty. I was hoping there would have been more veggies included. We had wished there was a raw onion and pico to add to all of these like some food trucks provide. Overall it was good but could have used a touch more flavor overall. Especially the veggie one. We did like the choice of different hot sauces you could add though. We would totally come back and try some of the other items they have. Edit: We came back a few days later and tried the Al pastor burrito and the shrimp burrito. Oh my goodness!! They were both so amazing!! We got them with guacamole and sour cream and there was SO much flavor!! And we loved how juicy and saucy they were. No bland or dry burritos here! We were seriously commenting on how much we loved them with every bite. We are dying to go back and get them again. Added another star for this visit. Came back again a few days later and we all got the super shrimp burritos. So, so good!! I got mine with no sour cream or cheese because I have an intolerance to dairy but had the guacamole included. It was still super good but the sour cream makes it in my opinion. We raved about them again as we ate, and my family said it's the best burrito they've ever had, and they've had a lot of them.
