Fish Taco and Carne Asada Taco
    Jacqueline Z.

Stopped by this food truck for dinner and decided to get a fish taco and a carne asada taco. To start off with the good, the fish taco was loaded with fish. The tacos look small at first glance but are decent size. However, flavor wise, both tacos were lacking... Like they literally tasted like nothing.

Made a quick stop at the Sugar Mill on the way to Northshore to grab lunch on the go and glad I stumbled upon this shop. I haven't tried much Mexican food in the island but I can say this is legit stuff. Yes, taste was slightly different than in CA but it was still delicious. Staff was nice and food came out hot and fresh. I would definitely recommend this if you are in search of Mexican. I will be back for sure.

Great stop when I visited O'ahu, super flavorful tacos and filling lunch! Would recommend if you're in the nearby area and are looking to get a great Mexican food craving satisfied - Miguel Morales Photography

2 super burrito's 2 3 taco plates! $70 bucks! Customer service (Caucasian girl ) was very nice and friendly! Took a bite of my super burrito and I was immediately not impressed at all! don't know if it was spoiled or thats how it is but i it just tasted like grainy Parmesan cheese! THIS IS NOT IT!

After scraping some onions off the tacos when we ordered no onions.

We stopped here to eat after Dole Plantation and beach trip. Ordered the tree taco plate and one shrimp taco. There was a small line but it got bigger and food was taking awhile to come out. We ordered no onions and no cilantro (kids meal) on the three tacos. When we finally got our food the tacos were covered with onions and cilantro. The shrimp taco was really good but the carnitas tacos and asada weren't very good. I would come back for shrimp tacos but other than that I would go somewhere else.

Shrimp taco - a little spicy and the shrimp was SO fresh/perfectly cooked. This was our top ranked taco after trying almost all of them.

These are the tacos I've ever had. Also, the kids burrito was a hit for our picky eater. Friendly service and reasonable prices, plus the tacos are absolutely stuffed with meat. We ate here a couple of times while staying on the North Shore - yum!!

3 taco plate - carne asada, pollo, and al pastor (comes with rice and beans); one side al pastor taco; one Super Burrito (it was huge!)

Wow wow wow. SO GOOD. And HUGE portions for the price. Friendly server took our order and it came out really quick too! They have a picnic table just to the side of the truck that has an umbrella for some shade - great spot to sit and chow down on your tacos, burritos, and more while watching the crowd and scoping out dessert. The also offered basically as much sauces/salsa as you want as you can fill up your cups as many times as you want (and they were gooood sauces)! Already dreaming of going back...

The best fish tacos on the Island! I look forward to these every time I'm on North shore! Originally from Cali & I feel like these are way better than any I've ever tried.

Mr husband is from California and is Mexican/Spanish, so he's always on the hunt for good Mexican food on the island. We were in north shore today and he saw this so decided to try it. We got a 3-taco plate (carnitas, carne asada, and shrimp) which came with Spanish rice and beans. It was about $16 We took turns trying out each item: SPANISH RICE: woah. That was the WORST Spanish rice we both had in our life.. overcooked, crumbly, and poorly seasoned BEANS: not as bad as the rice, but still watery CARNITAS TACO: overcooked, too salty CARNE ASADA: woah, even more salty lol SHRIMP TACO: shrimp was cooked well, but still a little salty but this was the best taco of the 3 Will we be back? Sorry, but no.. that was one of the worst Mexican places we've tried on the island lol

$14.50 for a burrito that tastes like it costs $2.00 to make. Minuscule meat portions over a saucy mystery mix. These 5-star reviews gotta be from ignorant tourists from BF 'Merica who will take any slop given to them. The only positive here was the vivacious Argentine counter girl. "Don't cry for me Argentina" ... burritos here will leave you crying for real food.

Sorry late post! This was about a month from posting this!…read moreMy family, bf, and I wanted to support food trucks today for our lunch, so we decided to head to the Kahuku Sugar Mill I wanted a garlic shrimp plate and this is usually my go-to spot. I love the garlic smears they leave on the rice and that it's almost like a paste (my preference lol). Though it is very oily/buttery (almost like a pool) where they have the shrimps- still really Ono! My dad wanted to try their squid and shrimp plate (garlic butter combo)- he said he enjoyed it! He requested no garlic on his rice. Overall, this has been my preferred garlic shrimp plate. I don't like the shrimp heads at the shells aren't too hard. There's some places and it's very crunchy. These ones aren't pretty soft so I don't have to worry about it hurting my lips when I suck the garlic off lol I do want to note that I had shrimp here once and it was a bit mushier than usual. This was a couple months ago, but all the other times, the shrimp has been a good texture

1/5 -- Buyer Beware: Tourist Trap…read more Very disappointing experience. The rice was old and mushy, the shrimp did not taste fresh, and the beef was extremely chewy. Most concerning, there was a visible fly on the shrimp inside the food container. Between the food quality and cleanliness concerns, I would not recommend this place. Stay away--especially if you're a tourist looking for a good local meal.

Literally the best shrimp I ever had. Absolutely delicious!!…read more I don't say that lightly either. It was otherworldly!! The staff was great too!!!! I'll be back!

Giovanni's is one of those places where memory does a remarkable amount of the seasoning. I've been…read moreeating here across decades. Enough visits that this is no longer about catching them on a bad afternoon, ordering the wrong thing or failing to understand what the place is supposed to be. I've tried the different shrimp, stood in the lines, eaten at the tables, navigated the parking, brought people here and returned because, for a very long time, Giovanni's was simply one of those places you went when you were on this side of the island. At some point, repetition becomes evidence. The truck itself has become an artifact. Covered in signatures, battered by time, photographed millions of times. There was probably a period when all of that felt charming. Now it mostly feels tired. There is a difference between patina and neglect and the surrounding experience has increasingly crossed that line for me. Flies, crowded tables, overflowing activity, rough parking, heat, trash nearby. You can romanticize rustic only so far before rustic starts asking for a pressure washer. Then there is the service, which has consistently been the hardest part for me to understand. I don't need anyone performing hospitality like they're auditioning for a resort commercial, but basic warmth costs nothing. Too often the interaction here feels impatient and transactional, as though the customer is somehow inconveniencing the operation by showing up to buy the food. After enough visits, you stop calling that an off day. And then there is the plate. The shrimp itself is actually the least offensive part. It is generally cooked reasonably well. Tender enough, rarely destroyed and when you get a good batch you can understand why this formula became so popular. Everything around it drags it down. The rice has repeatedly been soft, clumped and bordering on mushy. I am annoyingly particular about rice, but rice is not some decorative substance placed beneath the main event. It matters. When half the plate is rice, screwing it up is not a minor detail. The garlic is abundant, certainly, but abundance and care are different things. It often arrives more like a wet mass of processed garlic than the fragrance and texture you get from properly chopped fresh cloves. Add the butter and oil and you certainly get intensity, but after several bites the whole thing becomes heavy rather than interesting. The little salad on the side generally feels like an afterthought that has been waiting for someone to remember it. And that is ultimately my problem with Giovanni's. The entire experience feels as though its reputation arrived at the destination years before the restaurant did and everyone decided there was no longer much reason to keep improving. People will continue coming. Of course they will. The name is famous, the truck is recognizable, the photographs are practically mandatory and nostalgia is one hell of a business model. I understand it because it worked on me for years. But strip away the mythology and ask a brutally simple question: If this exact plate came from an unknown truck with no history, no signatures and no reputation, would you still wait in line for it? I wouldn't. Two stars. The shrimp can still be decent and I have too many memories here to pretend the place means nothing to me. But nostalgia should bring you back to a restaurant. It shouldn't be responsible for making the food taste better. I kept returning because tradition can turn habit into taste. I'm done confusing the two.

We were welcomed into the small hole-in-the-wall restaurant in a neighborhood strip mall by a young woman named Telani. Telani could not have been more excited to tell us everything there was to know about the entire menu and the history of the family who owned it. Telani was so genuinely interested in us and asked question after question that made us feel like we were celebrities that had just walked into a small town diner. Telani is the star of this story, but I want to mention that the other two employees left a positive impression as well, amazing service is clearly a culture at this restaurant. Our shake took a little longer than usual because they were accommodating a young boy with a severe peanut allergy. At the end of our meal, Telani walked over and handed us a personalized postcard that she had written to commemorate our visit! This 17-year-old medical student at BYU Hawaii just put my own customer service expectations to absolute shame. I cannot wait to get back to my hotel staff and share this story and hopefully inspire them to start writing some postcards of their own. I've just finished writing one of my own. P.S. All the food was AMAZING! We got the Shez's paniolo burger, the Sterlings teriyaki burger, the paniolo fries, the banana bread, and a vanilla shake with Nutella and Oreo.
