Something that stands out amongst the many restaurants along Katipunan (or behind it on Esteban…read moreAbada) is definitely La Creperie Provencåle. Most of the restaurants there are targeted towards the student population, so a quaint, quiet French restaurant is not something you would typically expect to be there. When my friends and I are in the mood to have a relaxed and yummy meal (before our study sessions or meetings at Craft next door), La Creperie Provencåle is often on the top of our list. The moment you step inside, it feels as though you've been transported directly to Nice or another one of those quaint French provinces; the ambiance is perfect for good conversations and kwentuhan and is a pretty nice date place as well! You can probably guess from its name, but La Creperie Provencåle has a great selection of delectable crepes just waiting to be explored. If you've got a sweet tooth, choose from their gourmet Crepe Sucrées; whether you want fruits, chocolate drizzle, nutella or oreos on your crepe, they've got it! If you're into more of the savory variety, their Galettes de Sarrasin are worth trying as well. I've also ordered their Greek Eggplant Moussaka (something I will always order if I see it on a menu), and it was oozing with cheese and bechamel sauce. This is the perfect place to sip on some coffee or tea; they offer TWG teas and a number of coffee variations, which is perfect for a caffeine addict such as myself. If you're sick of the hustle and bustle of Katipunan, pay La Creperie Provencåle a visit.

It wasn't until I saw the menu that I had realized it was the same restaurant I previously tried, so I thought, "OK, this should be good." Although I found it rather strange that they'd put up a branch there as I have a notion that La Creperie can be a bit pricey especially for students. First of all, the ambiance. It's not really conducive for studying, but more for an intimate dinner with your significant other or a best friend with its cozy lighting and interiors that scream "tea party!" Kidding aside, while the interior's all girly-girly, I think it helps set the mood for the food you are about to enjoy. As for me, I had the Le JJ - a tomato, ham, emmental and gruyere cheese crepe served with a side of greens. Let me tell you though, the plate was lovely! The food was okay for me I guess, it's not too filling and I think it's a great option if you're looking for something light (plus nice to look at). On the side, I had a steaming hot pot of TWG Silver Moon Tea. The teacup itself is super pretty!!! I felt really dainty while drinking my tea and enjoying my crepe. One of the biggest things though about La Creperie is that they already had TWG tea on their menu even before the TWG restaurant came to Philippine shores, and on my very first La Creperie experience, Silver Moon was really, love at first taste so this is what I ordered when I stumbled upon this branch. Overall, I think La Creperie would make for a good date place (guys, please take note!) It has everything a girl will probably want to make the date picture perfect (and Instagrammable): pretty plates, pretty teacups, light food, pretty ambiance. Hey, even if you really enjoy your date's company, you can continue the fun right next door with a cup of coffee at Craft.

Unfortunately, only select spots in this branch will let you use your LTE. People work in cafes, and while I understand that customer turnaround is something that restaurants always strive for, cafes are where clients are supposed to be able to take their time relaxing or working. In my opinion, WiFi shouldn't be optional anymore for cafes. If the small indie cafe in Fairview called Read and Brew can offer decent Internet for their patrons, so should bigger establishments like Starbucks and Cafe Breton. What I do like about Breton is that their food is mostly consistent. I've tried my favorite tuna melt in several branches, including this one, and found it satisfying in every one of them. My crepe of choice is the Funtastyc, and bananas, being less consistent than tuna or mayonnaise, can vary from branch to branch. Unfortunately, the last time we were at this one, the bananas they used were a little bit sour--not good for a supposedly sinful dessert crepe with Nutella, ice cream, and a dash of alcohol. It's an okay branch to get your crepe fix from, but I do prefer the other Cafe Bretons.

Aside from coffee-based drinks, ice cream and other desserts their menu also includes entrees such as waffles, Salisbury steak, pasta, chicken and tacos. My personal favorite is their Hungarian sausage plate; that, or tacos although their Bolognese is also good too--rather reminiscent of the one in Pancake house with its sweetness and gritty bits of ground meat. The Salisbury steak is a bit ho-hum but it is okay if your taste buds are not particularly looking for an adventure. I often eat here with my kid (the Trinoma branch is right next to Time Zone!) and he often goes for a parfait or a banana split. The crew at both Trinoma and Timog branches are unfailingly polite and smiling--- they won't give you attitude if you want to linger over your meal with a book or with friends, which makes this café a good place to set up meetings with people that you want to catch up with.

(But seriously, why eat pasta or a sandwich at a crepe place?) I like that Cafe Breton has an option wherein you can also choose to personalize your crepes. While I have not tried this route as I'm afraid to be too adventurous with what goes inside my crepe, I'll stick the review to the crepes I frequently order. For those who want a meal in their crepes, Cafe Breton has a variety of meat and seafood fillings to choose from. My favorite however, is their Galette Rustique - a smoked bacon, tomato provencal, mozzarella and egg crepe that is light on the stomach and tastes really good. The ratio of the meaton the crepe is just enough without falling short on flavor. For their dessert crepes, hands down my favorite is the La Pinay. It's a mix of mango topped with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. The dessert isn't too sweet and the mangoes used are fresh. The touch of vanilla ice cream on top is delicious and blends well with the mango chocolate drizzle. Another favorite at Cafe Breton is its pretty extensive coffee offerings. I really like their Cafe Mocha and it's a perfect match with the La Pinay dessert crepe.

Crepes and Cream may be ubiquitous in the metro's malls, but that doesn't mean their products are automatically inferior. What I can appreciate is that they offer a variety of flavors, from the savory to the sweet; their stalls and are clean and uncluttered; and they make the crepes fresh and fast. (It's quite addicting to watch their staff turn the batter into perfectly thin crepes that, no sweat! And I've always marveled at how their crepes don't tear or break down at all despite being filled and folded in a rush.) I recently triend their Kani Crepe while my sister had the Taco Crepe for lunch. Though the filling is not as abundant as I would have wanted, the simple but yummy flavor of the crepe made up for it. They were quite filling, too, lasting us till dinner while we strolled around the mall.

Crepes and cream is a bit special to me because it was the first establishment that showed me that crepes could be savory too. Before I tried this place, all the crepes I ever had were of the desert variety. That said, the stuff on their menu isn't that expensive. The quality of the crepe is great at least when compared to most of the places I've been to. Give it a try, once again, since you'll do little wrong in spending your money here. I sure as heck didn't regret it when I did.

For a while, it's been my go-to dessert store after nice meals since there wasn't much places selling cakes along Maginhawa back then. But now, there has been more competition and it seems like Fancy was boxed out from the prime real estate. PROS: Once a week, they have a promo where they slash 50% off from their cakes; Endless coffee for P50.00; More cheesecake and cake choices; Cute crepe presentations where they write your name with syrup; Quirky interiors that Zooey Deschanel may approve. CONS: They've had a price increase since relocation; Serving size has gone smaller too. TL;DR: It's not really a unique experience, and you may find the servings not enough, but it's a good tambay place where you could get your stuff done.

Where else can you get bottomless coffee for 50php? Caffeine coma, here I come. As Faye said, I was a little disappointed that their serving sizes seem to have gone down but eh, they still make good stuff. The I Love NY is still a personal favorite.

Crepeman tastes like those long afternoons in Miriam College's cafeteria where all I lived on were their tuna crepes and nothing else. What can I say, I was cheap and on a forced diet. My brother was there to save our stomachs by falling in line for about 3,572.21 hours and getting us some dinner crepes. PROS: They offer both savory and sweet crepes. I find the savory ones better and more interesting as crepes in the area are usually dessert fare; Cheap prices relative to most crepe places. CONS: The blueberry crepe had too much whipped crème and too little cream cheese; The place is a little cramped which is a good thing for the business but a little ugh for me. This is not just during the food fest but even on regular days. TL;DR: Your wallet-friendly crepe fix in a convenient location.
