I was having a crazy craving for some comfort food on a rainy day so I pulled up to papaye to give them a try and I must say I was not disappointed! I got the pounded yellow plantain and fish soup sooo delicious soup was spicer than I expected but still good. The staff was also nice and accommodating I appreciated the hospitality. Only complaint I have is the location the grand concourse is a literal mess to drive to and through

Where do I start! One word AUTHENTIC! This taste just like your grandmother grandma cooking. I order waakye literally amazing! The flavors and the heat was perfect! It was cooked well and the meat was tender yet hard which is what I love. I also tried the jollof and yam sticks which was great! I would recommend this countless times to anyone! I will definitely be visiting this place again! SB: please don't expect great customer service this is a mom and pop shop with old school African workers! The food is great though don't let that discourage you from getting the order!

Came here today during my visit to nyc as I was craving some african food. Ordered jollof and goat meat. Made foolish mistake of not checking my plate before going back to hotel. I was neither in "new york mode" nor "african sense mode" as i now live in a more humane city and need not arm myself with either mindset on a daily basis. The server was going through the meat in the hot tray before serving so i thought she was looking for the best pieces to give me. Rather, it seems like she was intentionally trying to give me uneatable pieces. Received 90% goat skin and 10% meat. This was 11pm. They close @ 12am..what is the point of trying to screw me over when i could potentially be the last customer of the night? I mean...what else could i possibly say bad about this place?

Review is only for the food. Waakye is great and comes with a lot of stuff. Small portion is $12 and it's more than enough food. The service is something to be desired.

This is actually the first time I've tried african cuisine. Truth be told, I wasn't really expecting much given the pictures the other reviewers posted here. But wow, was I surprised. I ordered a goat soup served with fufue (it's basically a dough ball but better suited for spicy soups). The soup tasted fantastic! It has such a deep, earthy flavor that you can't really find in any other cuisine. The goat meat was odorless (which is rarer than you'd think, even in New York) and tender. If you're not used to game meat, the skin on the goat might be off putting, but you can always put it aside. By the way, don't be surprised by the relatively high prices, since the portions are huge and can easily feed up to 3 people. Another plus is that this location is actually pretty close to Yankee Stadium (they have another branch which might be even closer, but this is close enough). For those of you who only venture to the bronx to watch a yankee game, walking here could help you acquaint yourself to the most mysterious borough of New York city.

When you think of having a well home cooked meal. Think of PAPAYE. This place is a home away from home. Being a Nigerian in the United States, it's very hard to find a GOOD TASTEFUL African restaurant. This is the best African restaurant that I have been to in a while. Everything tastes great. The people working here are very nice and friendly. The food portions are MASSIVE!. You are really going to get a BANG for your buck!! Thank me later

I love this place! Papaye offers authentic, homestyle Ghanaian foods. The food is fresh and the portions are MASSIVE! They have a pretty extensive menu which is awesome if you're interested in trying different dishes. My boyfriend and I always pay this place a visit when we're visiting NYC. He's is a picky eater when it comes to his African food but he says this place reminds him of his mom's home cooking. It's definitely worth the visit if you're looking for a place with traditional Ghanaian food.

Papaye was pretty average. We got in and just sat down hoping someone would come talk to us, but no one did. Took us about 30 minutes of sitting down to figure out we had to walk to the front to order, pay and pick up our food. Even when we first got in, we had to re-arrange some tables by ourselves because we had a large group. One of the staff came to help out a little bit, but never really mentioned anything about the serving process. When he had moved a wobbly table wedged at the bottom with some cardboard paper, two baby cockroaches had ran out. The food in the restaurant is ok. The wakkye (beans, rice, garri) was a bit greasy but good overall. However, the service was really bad, and the environment is not so neat.

The rice and fish was dry. The beans and spinach tasted the same and as you see from my photo I took, the beans and Spanish were dumped on top of each other thus, Levaing it looking unappealing.... The only nice thing was They brought the food to our table and collected our trays when we were finished...unlike the Accra resteraunt on Burnside.

I wanted to take a friend for dinner to celebrate his new job and said hmmm Little Italy in the Bronx for a special meal. Of course when I finally got up there (metro north problems) he was like ummm no dude I don't want expensive Italian I really want African food. Never having had any sort of African food, I admit I was leery but hey say what. So we ended up at this place and I'm glad we came! The Jollof rice and tilapia was great. The fish was shockingly accompanied by a tasty and spicy sauce w fresh tomatoes. The rice itself was mildly flavored and was the perfect accompaniment for the fish. Paired with a Guinness Malta, it was a meal fit for kings and wasn't too harsh on the wallet. I do wish that the fish was deboned but that's a small thing. The place was crowded with many people getting takeout. It did look dirty and there was a guy dropping f bombs everywhere and I think he needed meds but that was easy to ignore after taking a bit of the sauce that the fish came in. I'd def recommend and go if one is in the area and has a yen for Ghana's food.

I would like to give this place another try. It seems like a very busy place people were in and out non stop. However, they ran out of a lot of things. I was left with getting the jollof rice and fried chicken. The chicken was very well seasoned but soooo dry. My friend had the egusi soup with plantain fufu. He was pleased. I was not.

Adom African Cuisine - Peanut Soup with Fufu Jollof Rice with Waakye

What started as a…read moresimple dinner turned into something truly special--an evening filled with amazing food, genuine hospitality, and a real sense of family. We had the chance to spend time with the beautiful family behind the restaurant--David (the owner), his incredible wife (who we lovingly called "Mom"), and their daughter Kendra. Every single one of them was warm, welcoming, and full of kindness. Earlier that day, I was blessed to meet their daughter Priscilla, who highly recommended we stop by and try her mother's authentic Ghanaian cooking. She told me her mom's food appeals to everyone--and she was absolutely right. We came during a special event sponsored by Puma, where meals were being covered between 4pm and 7pm. Even with that generosity, my wife and I still chose to order and pay for additional items because we wanted the full experience--and we're so glad we did. We ordered fufu with palm nut soup and beef, Ghana's spicy jollof rice, along with krakro, fried shrimp, rice balls, jerk chicken, peanut soup, and spring rolls--and everything was incredible. The flavors were rich, authentic, and made with love. Ghanaian food has a unique spice to it--it's not overpowering like extreme heat, but more of a flavorful kick that comes and goes. It's something you just have to experience for yourself. The space itself may be small, but the love it holds is HUGE. You can feel it in every interaction and every bite of food. If you're ever in the Bronx, just off I-95 near the iconic Arthur Ave, do yourself a favor and stop by Adom Cuisine. Whether you dine in or take out, you can easily enjoy a full, satisfying meal for around $20-$30. This place isn't just a restaurant--it's a home away from home.

Jollof rice with Waakye was also spicy with great flavor. The chicken is bone-in which gives it a lovely flavor. Also good amount of food for price. Overall great meals!
