Was lucky enough to get to try this spot when they came for the OC fair and I'm so grateful I did! I've never had polvoron before but it was delicious. The texture is extremely soft and crumbly, and very delicate, almost like a mazapan. Sooo buttery too. I tried the peanut butter and the ube flavor and I'm already kicking myself for not getting more. In addition to these take-home goodies we bought the ube mini donuts (genius) and the ube brownie, which I was supposed to save for later but only lasted about 8 hours at home. Hopefully there's another opportunity to try more goodies from this spot in OC but if not I might have to figure out how to order online. The staff were super sweet too. read more

Waiting for pasalubong polvoron? Well, the wait is over because this bakery is an absolute GEM in Chula Vista! Polvoron has always been my favorite pasalubong (souvenir) from family returning from the Philippines, and now, thanks to this bakery, I can enjoy it whenever I want. I recently ordered the ube mini cheesecake, toffee mini cheesecake, and ube polvoron ice cream for my husband's birthday. Everything was amazing and tasted like polvoron was baked right into each dessert. If you love the crumbly, melt-in-your-mouth texture of polvoron, you'll absolutely love these--just don't try talking while eating it unless you want to choke (like I did)! On top of that, the baker was incredibly accommodating, helping me out with a last-minute order, and the pickup process was a breeze (they also offer drop off). I haven't had polvoron since I was a kid. I remember my grandparents buying polvoron and having it around their house. The taste is so distinct and as a kid, it was too plain for my taste (you're reading a review of someone who ate dunk-a-roo's around the clock). Throughout the years, I'll see polvoron around but it wasn't something I craved or went out of my way for. Until I saw Papa's Polvoron at the Otay Ranch Farmer's Market. Nostalgia hit me. "Omg polvoron!" was my first thought. Again, coming from someone who probably hasn't had a polvoron in 20 years. This overwhelming feeling of trying it just to fill that nostalgic craving made me cave. I bought a couple. To be honest, I've never even heard of polvorons until I purchased some cookies on a whim while at the SD Collective food festival. Even though it was described as a "Filipino shortbread", I was surprised by my first bite. The dense cookie crumbles into a very light and subtly sweetened sandy-like texture. I understand the comparison but it's actually quite different than the shortbread I know. It quickly grew on me and I love all of the fun flavors! I have since purchased more from their website, which they hand delivered to my door just a few days later. I like that these cookies aren't that sweet. I've been enjoying them with my morning tea or espresso. If you prefer more sweetness, I'd recommend the toffee flavor, but personally I've enjoyed them all. read more

I love mazapan . Well what do you know Joel tells me there's also a Filipino version called polvoron . I didn't even try it I just bought it . It's an amazing treat . We had the cookies and cream we all loved it my daughter who is 7 and my son who is 13 they both loved it as well. It's not as nutty and creamy as a Mexican mazapan. Best polvoron I've ever had in my life! Papa's Polvoron nailed it. The variety of flavors made it so difficult to choose one, so I tried them all! No regrets. They're all absolutely very tasty and bursting in flavor. I must make a special mention about certain flavors though. With every single bite, you definitely get a nice crunch of toffee bits with the toffee crunch. And with the butter pecan, there are multiple chunks of pecans. No one gets shortchanged, I promise you that. Every individual polvoron is so compact and beautifully packaged with care and love. read more

To be honest, these are the best tasting homemade polvoron I've ever had in my life. They don't taste commercialized like the "Goldilocks" brand, and you can tell that Papa's Polvoron did a lot of research and development on what the texture, taste, and quality of what a traditional Filipino polvoron would look like or be like within their self-made brand. I love the creative flavors of Papa's Polvoron, and yet he still pays homage to the classic original flavor of the polvoron. Not to mention, he has a vegan option as well!
