i got pho to go and the lid on the broth was not shut and spilled all over the to go bag before i got even a block away. i came back to ask for more broth and the woman at the register accused me of lying and saying the broth didn't spill even tho the bag and everything in it was wet and sticky. she kept laughing at me and saying "be honest" even though it had obviously spilled and she refuse to give me more broth. so now i've payed almost $20 for flavorless noodles. it's incredibly unprofessional to accuse a paying customer of lying when you're the one who improperly packed the bag. read more

Honestly I walked in not expecting much food and service were very good! Everyone complaining about the lady but she was super nice to everyone, even people who were obviously only buying something small to use the bathroom. The pho combo has tendon and everything else, which was a pleasant surprise I was just expecting a super basic pho with just meatball, brisket and filet mignon. The broth had a good flavor, the meat to noodle ratio was perfect and I actually ate the whole bowl in one sitting when normally I can only eat half it was that good! My husband really enjoy his sweet and sour pork with beef fried rice. The pork was crispy and the flavor was a good balance of sweet and tangy. I like that the Vietnamese coffee is a drip coffee. It makes a huge difference in flavor. The bathroom was clean, there are a lot of tables but not the point it's crowded. There's sauces on every table which is convenient. Would definitely come back any time we're nearby. read more

A nice spot in Haight Ashbury for noodles, pho and more. I ordered the veggie chow mein with tofu and a few veggie rolls. The chow mein was good - noodles were soft and chewy and the sauce balanaced the savory and sweet flavors well, but just a little bit on the greasy side. The service was great. I placed a takeout order and was on my way to pick it up when I got a flat tire. When the owner called to ask if I was still coming, I explained the situation. Instead of believing me, I was told that I was lying and that the real reason I wasn't picking up the order was because I didn't have enough money. I found that accusation unnecessary and unprofessional, especially since this would have been my first time visiting the restaurant. Afterward, I was told I was no longer welcome and my number was blocked. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I won't be returning nor do I recommend. read more

We stopped in here on a whim and I'm so glad we did! 1 pm on a Friday and they were steady but no problem getting a table. It was sort of a blustery and the big bowl of matzah ball soup really hit the spot. After we started eating we found a harmless bug on our plate. The restaurant looked very clean overall. Earwigs exist in a lot of different places. My issue is simply this, once you discover one bug, there are usually more violations hanging out. Having worked in a kitchen, I know what it takes to keep it clean. One little bug on a plate of spring rolls, we're not shook! However, the food was nothing amazing. This place is super average. Having traveled the world, dining in major cities all over this planet, I know what happens behind that kitchen door isn't always something you want to see. I've seen mice running through deli counters, dead fruit flies in soy sauce, dogs standing on butcher tables in night markets chewing on carcasses. Flies surrounding piles of ground beef. read more

Rainy day Saturday and looking for a spot close by. We scanned Papa's Kitchen's menu in the window and they had lunch specials until 4pm. The server was sweet and brought menus and water immediately. We settled on Mapo Tofu, Sweet & Sour Pork and fresh Vietnamese Grilled Pork Rolls. Portions were generous though the Mapo Tofu lacked heat as promised by the chili pepper next to its listing. If you order it, ask if they can add Szechuan peppercorns. The other dishes were solid, we split family style and I called dibs on the second to last cold pork roll that had fresh pea sprouts poking out of the roll, delicious. The restaurant was clean with a large dining room including a counter if you want to slurp your pho and look out at Haight Street. I would definitely return or do take out from this spot. read more

Pretty standard fare Chinese place with reasonable prices and big portions. Seafood combo pan fried noodles were actually pretty good. I don't get this dish often but the sauce was pretty flavorful and it came with lots of seafood (fish, scallops, shrimp, squid) and veg (bok choy, snow peas, carrots, mushrooms) Sweet and sour pork was disappointing. The sauce was pretty good but the pork itself was really overfried and to the point of being dry / stringy. I'd still go back to try different items and it isn't a place that breaks the bank. read more

We had a great meal yesterday. I had the Mongolian beef chow mein and my friend had the Hunan fish and we had the cream cheese Rangoon appetizers. Everything was outstanding and the portions were excellent. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to try everything on the menu. read more

It's a family owned restaurant, and I had high expectations. We ordered a lot of things, and I have mixed feelings. My favorite is absolutely the fried rice. There is a scent to it that cannot be replicated at home. The big wok in a restaurant can only achieve it. The fried chicken wings are good as well. The second tier is orange chicken and the spring rolls. My least favorite is the lemongrass garlic noddles and the hunan fish filet. There is no garlic nor Hunan flavors. I really disliked this place. We ordered the "Vietnamese Style Fried Egg Roll," pho tai, and a pork chop dish. The lady with the poufy short bob was crazy rude. I asked her what the difference was between the rice plate vs the a la carte versions of the "Grill Pork Chop." I thought it was a little weird that the a la carte version costs more than the rice plate so I asked if there was more pork chop/more meat in that version and she scoffed at me, acted like I was dumb, and kind of nodded in the affirmative. I have no idea why this question pissed her off. She ended up bringing us the "Vegetable Spring Rolls" which I really don't like. At first, I was annoyed that they were trying to pass these off as Vietnamese Egg Rolls. When I finally flagged her down and asked her about them, she said they were vegetarian egg rolls. She put in the incorrect order! I got the feeling she wasn't really listening when my husband ordered the dish and I guess I was right. The pho tai was okay. Rude service and just meh pan Asian food. The owners need to retrain their staff. It's sad considering I could see the kitchen staff was really hustling when I walked to the restroom. If you want Vietnamese food don't go to this place. A little cute mom and pop serving Vietnamese and Chinese food. I got the Mapo tofu and it was all right. It has a spicy sign right next to it on the menu however it was not spicy at all, like at all. Should not really be called mapo tofu if it's not spicy. The inside is clean and spacious, and the service is friendly and very nice. However, I will not be back. read more

This place has horrible service. My friends and I stopped by seeing that they served pho and were starving. Walked in, right off the bat the old lady rudely asked if we were all eating. Đại yes and sat us down. We only wanted one bowl of pho to share between us, and when we said that, she immediately said no. Told us to get out and walked away. I was taken aback. She pushed two tables together since it was the three of us, so i thought if we offered to just sit at one table to save space. She gave us a dirty look and told us to get out. Another story of rudeness at the front counter. This restaurant gives violently bad service. My teenage daughter was desperate, having just started her period. We came in expecting to spend money - only fair. I first asked for a drink. No. So I sat down willing to buy a snack. My daughter was physically barred from the restroom - like a full-on body block. We were loudly ejected. WTF? Obviously these small merchants are traumatized by the homeless situation. My daughter and I were nicely dressed and clean. Something was very off with the older woman working in the front of the restaurant while my partner and I dined in that I just can't quite put my finger on... In addition to the food being disappointing and lackluster, I kept noticing that she would be selectively accommodating to certain patrons over others... there were multiple same sex couples that ended up walking out of the restaurant because the felt like the were not being served properly which made me feel uncomfortable... I got the pho dac biet. Well packaged for self assembly at home but unfortunately, the flavor was lacking. The broth didn't have much depth and was heavier on sweet than I expected even without hoisin. Maybe better at the restaurant as take out pho is never as good. Stumbled across Papa's Kitchen when we were looking for a bite to eat on the way to Golden Gate Park. The restaurant was clean and spacious, the server was very sweet, and they gave large portions. We got the cream cheese puffs and vegetable chow fun. The puffs were pretty standard, I liked the addition of extra flavor in the cream cheese filling. We walked in with a big group around 8pm on New Year's Eve and they sat us down immediately! They closed at 9 but didn't rush us and had fast service. We ordered a bunch of staples including eggplant, cucumber salad, stir fried veggies, and chow mein noodles. It was all delicious, sizable, and reasonably priced! The staff was so kind & they were hard at work, and not even some side eye or a sigh about us coming in a little under an hour before they closed up shop. Food exceeded expectations from appetizers to main course for my Buddy and I. Portion size large. Vegetables Were beautiful. Human fish filet was rock cod, delicious sauce, small pieces of corn, snap peas, onions, red peppers, zucchini, bamboo shoots, basil herb. All very tasty. My Buddy had Mongolian beef chow mein. Picky that he is, he loved it specially the sauce. Onions were "beautiful" , a lot of layers to complex dish. Presentation in wok was beautiful and efficient making the meal stay hot. Walked in thinking it's a tourist trap because of the decor, menu, and location, but don't let that fool you... this place is a gem of a find. Surprisingly good Americanized Chinese food as well as a few gems in the authentic menu. I had their beef tenderloin noodle soup and it was flavorful and delicious (for ppl who hate tendons or authentic noodle soup, don't get it), their basil chicken and lemongrass green bean chicken dishes were 10/10, tender and flavorful af unlike the dried up chix breasts other places use. The only 8/10 is their "Mapo tofu" because it ain't the punch in your face flavor mapo tofu you're thinking... but nonetheless it is mild and pleasant and I'd honestly get it again. Bad customer service. I ordered spring rolls through DoorDash that literally quoted 39.vegetables spring rolls(4 Pieces) $8.50 when I got to the restaurant to pick up I received egg rolls instead when I saw the order I asked told her that I think it's the wrong order and she said "no that's what you ordered" I showed her the order on my DoorDash app that clearly has a picture of the item I wanted she didn't offer any solutions so I told her that I'll contact DoorDash which I did and got a refund. I was still craving springs roll that day so I went back I live around the corner so it wasn't a hassle for me to go back I wanted to use my credit that I got from DoorDash but before I order I made sure to ask her that this is the right item and she said no it's not that's not the right picture and not the right price and I told her that it's on DoorDash though how can it be the wrong item it literally shows the right picture right name? Anyways this is the most confusing experience I ever had in a restaurant I end up ordering the same thing and had to pay $2 extra. Why would you put a picture and a price on DoorDash if it isn't correct or accurate feels like a scam! Disappointed asf! And ruined my appetite. A little kindness goes a long way. I was having a bathroom emergency and I understand that is not the restaurants responsibility. I saw the sign said restroom for customers only and I was desperate. I walked in with my friend, we were greeted nicely at first until I asked can I buy a drink to go and use the restroom to which the woman shook her head, refused to look at me anymore and kept saying no. Really great addition to the Haight. Couldn't be more impressed with the quality of the food here - the dry fried garlic spare ribs were some of the tastiest I've had in recent memory. The house wonton soup hit the spot on a cold day, so much so that I forgot to take a picture and thus you can see I've included the empty bowl picture as evidence. The seafood pan fried noodle was also fantastic, but I'm biased because it's one of my favorite dishes in general. Portions were generous and fairly priced for this part of SF, especially being on Haight. Really great service and calming ambiance - overall a really pleasant place to stop in for lunch/dinner.
