Stumbled upon Papa's Kitchen on my walk home. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. The prices are good for family style. I got the dry fried garlic spareribs and the batter was so delicious. I think it would have been perfect if it were cooked a little longer. There were some tough spots. The wonton soup was delicious as well and it looks like the wontons were made in-house so I appreciate that a lot! The wontons were seasoned nicely, filled generously and the texture was on point. Food had a lot of flavor - i wish there was more kick in the food that usual Thai food has. I went in the afternoon after a walk in Haight and Ashbury neighborhood and the restaurant had only 2 parties including us. They did have a lot of space though. Service was wonderful, we requested basil fried tofu which was not even on the menu and the server helped get that for us. Honestly, I did not have much expectations for this place. Americanized Chinese food or in this case an Asian multi cuisine restaurant is not hard to cook. However, I must say the ingredients are fresh and well prepared. The serving size is more than enough for one person. The price is about average... certainly not super expensive but probably what's to be expected for the neighborhood and inflation. I've only had one meal here but I would try it again. There aren't any other Chinese food options in Haight-Ashbury and I'm glad to say Papa's Kitchen's is a solid addition to the neighborhood. Many familiar dishes on the menu, I've tried their Seafood Panfried Noodles, Dry Fried Garlic Spareribs (watch out for bones!), Orange Chicken, Beef Fried Rice and they were all tasty. I'd imagine their other dishes would be as well. The service was a bit slow, which was fine. They had one lady servicing all the tables, taking orders, bringing the orders to tables, checking in on tables, bussing, picking up the phone for takeout orders. Finally a great Asian place in the Haight . Basil chicken, pineapple prawn fried rice and chow mein are worth mentioning. It's a clean little restaurant with great seating that can accommodate a large party. Great for a family outing or a lunch date. It was my first time here . It is a small very clean resturant. Nicely organized. I was the only customer. I went there around 5 pm on a Wednesday. I ordered a chow menu with chicken . The food was just ok . Didn't impress me . The lady who was sitting there was not welcoming me at all . As soon as I walked in I noticed that she was on her phone and another employee was sleeping on the corner . She then said are you going to eat here or to go ? I said here . And she left . She went to the kitchen . I had to call her ask her if I can use the bathroom to wash my hands . I do not know was was wrong . After I finished my food and was a bout to leave , a gentleman man came in and the lady was super nice friendly to him . She came to him , welcomed him and asked him what he would like to order today and from the conversation I understood that he is a regular customer . We ordered pho, Creamy Honey Prawns, General Tsao Chicken, steamed rice, potstickers, and they kindly gave us some spring rolls to try. Everything was absolutely delicious! The chicken was crunchy on the outside and juicy inside with the perfect tangy sauce. The prawns (probably my favorite) were massive! Potstickers we're also huge and tasty. We ordered takeout but the restaurant environment looks great. Nice and modern yet warm ambience. And the man who took our order and gave us our food was so kind.
