It comes loaded with pepperoni, Italian sausage, cappy ham, sopressata and ricotta, along with Romano and mozzarella. What really makes it different is the Neo-Neapolitan, wood-fired style. Their pizzas are cooked at extremely high temperatures, which gives the crust those dark, blistered spots you can see in the pictures. Those black spots aren't necessarily a burned pizza, that char is part of what gives wood-fired pizza its distinctive flavor and texture. Maillard even describes its food as being "kissed by fire." And LOOK AT THAT CHEESE PULL! The crust had a great combination of crispy, chewy and slightly charred, while the center stayed softer. Add all those Italian meats and the little pockets of creamy ricotta, and there was a ton of flavor in every bite. This definitely isn't your typical chain-store pizza. The menu is pretty impressive too. They have everything from a basic cheese or pepperoni pizza to combinations like The Great Debate, Sweet & Spicy, Greek Freak, The Bama, Garlic Confit and The Gus. There are also wood-fired wings, salads, cheese breads and several dipping sauces. So even if everyone at the table doesn't want the same kind of pizza, there are plenty of options. Another thing I really enjoyed was the atmosphere. It was peaceful and relaxing when we were there on a mid Thursday evening, it's one of those places where you can actually sit down, enjoy your food and have a conversation without feeling rushed. And the service was awesome. Friendly service can turn good food into a great experience, and they nailed both. One tip for somebody trying wood-fired pizza for the first time: don't judge that dark crust before you taste it. I know somebody is going to look at my picture and say, "They burnt your pizza!" Nope, that blistered char is one of the things that makes this style of pizza so good. Amazing pizza + peaceful atmosphere + awesome service = an easy from me. I'll definitely be back, although now I've got a problem: Do I order the Italian Meats again because it was that good, or try another one? Located at 110 S. Main Street in downtown Elizabethtown, Social takes the food-court idea and gives it a serious upgrade. Instead of everybody in your group having to agree on one restaurant, there are multiple kitchens under the same roof. Currently that includes Maillard Wood Fired Kitchen for Neo-Neapolitan wood-fired pizza, StrEAT Kitchen for smash burgers and other street-food-style dishes, and Wasabi Bistro for made-to-order Japanese food. We've already tried Maillard's Italian Meats pizza and a bacon smash burger with Parmesan fries from StrEAT, and both were fantastic. So the hardest part may be deciding which direction to walk when you get hungry. But the thing that surprised me was everything else inside. There's a full bar and self-pour tap wall, plus duckpin bowling, pool upstairs, arcade games and pinball machines. And we're not talking about only new arcade games either. I spotted some real old-school machines, including NBA Jam, Fisherman's Bait and Track & Field. If you grew up feeding quarters into arcade machines, you may forget you originally came here to eat. The building itself is really cool too. It's a big open industrial-style space with high ceilings, exposed brick and plenty of different seating--from regular tables and long communal tables to more comfortable lounge-style areas. There's enough going on that a family or group could easily make an afternoon or evening out of it rather than just eating and leaving. I also like the concept because everybody doesn't have to want the same thing. Somebody wants wood-fired pizza? Done. Somebody wants a smash burger? Done. Somebody else wants Japanese? They've got that too. Then everyone meets back at the same table. That's a pretty smart setup. And based on our visit, the atmosphere was peaceful and enjoyable and the service we received was awesome. We never felt rushed, and it was the kind of place where you could hang around after eating instead of immediately heading for the door. Social Food Hall gets from us. Come hungry, bring some friends, and give yourself some extra time. We chose smash burgers from the STREAT Kitchen. I got the Street Smash and upgraded my chips to tater tots. The burger comes on a large, Hawaiian bread type bun which holds up well with all that's going on in between the bun. The sauce they use is very flavorful with the pickles, cheese, and lettuce enhancing the taste of the burger. I highly recommend. Hubby got the American Smash and really enjoyed his as well. If we were staying in the area longer, I would come back to try other food and play some of the games.
