As the name suggests, Panoramic Restaurant offers spectacular views, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. We dined here before attending a Mozart concert and enjoyed a set menu dinner. I had the trout, which was excellent and prepared very well. The service was outstanding--friendly, attentive, and professional throughout the evening. Combined with the beautiful setting and panoramic views, it made for a memorable dining experience. My friend and I booked the Mozart Fortress concert, which included a 3 course prix fixe dinner at this restaurant. While the views were stunning, the foo itself was underwhelming. We started with stale bread on the table and two types of butter which I didn't really care much for? The soup was decent and not too oily. The turkey roulade was dry and tough. Not a fan!! Dessert was just ok, too sour for my taste. Overall, I wouldn't recommend the restaurant. Definitely not worth it! read more

The view is worth it! Enjoy lunch, drinks, desert with the best bird's eye view of Salzburg. The food was quite nice considering the effort it takes to serve the amount of visitors and supply the location of the fortress. We had coffee and dessert; however, the meal portions looked large. Went to the top of the hill to visit the fortress and saw this restaurant with a great view of the city! Ordered a Baked Potato wrapped in a swan shape surrounded by Smoked Salmon over Salad, and a Apple Struder with Vanilla cream. I liked how their cream sauce made the Apple Struder more delicious. The staff and manager are really nice and made sure you have an excellent service before the bill. Also try their Salzburger Nockerl, it's made really fresh out of the oven! read more

Location, location, location! Panorama's outdoor dining terrace offers spectacular views of Salzburg from Festung Hohensalzburg, the hilltop fortress/castle at the heart of the city. If you're hungry or thirsty and touring the fortress, it's a really great option for you. Three stars for food, plus an extra star for the atmosphere and great service. We enjoyed a late lunch at Panorama and had great service. My pork wiener schnitzel was tender, seasoned and not greasy at all. Really good if you like schnitzel. If you get this, make sure you eat it with the cranberry sauce provided because ooooohhhh that flavor combo is good! This meal comes with a unexpectedly large and tasty side salad. No one at our table had any complaints about their meals, and almost every bite was eaten. Their meals included the turkey schnitzel, the goulash (dad loved it!), the fried chicken and the pasta bolognese. Since we hadn't yet tried Salzburg's famous Mozart cake, we shared this for dessert. It was pretty good, but not the most memorable dessert of our vacation or the best chocolate cake ever. Kind of wished we had the apple strudel instead. It looked divine on our neighbor's plate. When you're touring the fortress, I highly recommend you take a half hour to relax at this hilltop restaurant - sit next to the railing, have a local Augustiner beer or glass of wine, and enjoy the wonderful view of Salzburg. This restaurant wasn't on my agenda, but after walking 30k+ steps with a 15+lb backpack, I needed sustenance and some much needed rest for my feet. I ordered a beer, schnitzel, and pretzel and was seated at a table with an awesome view. I must have sat there for 3 hours, taking my sweet time to eat and rest. The food wasn't exceptional, but wasn't bad either. You're really paying for the view and in my case a place to just sit and rest. The staff were really nice. The place is located at the top of the hill, inside the castle and we sat at the restaurant's open-air patio overlooking Saltzburg. We always beat the lunch crowd as we go there early. They are open the same time as the hours of the museum. Our drinks were very generous and reasonably priced. Sadly, I was surprised to read a lot of bad reviews, however for us, we enjoyed it. The view is simply amazing and breath in the pure fresh air. Drinking a cocktail with a magnificent sight of the alps is worth a lot! The pretzel on the table was actually fresh and tasty despite people's complain. The prices are slightly higher than the rest of the town, but as we all know location matters. The service was on par. This restaurant in my opinion, is a must see spot and lives up to its name. read more

Okay, I didn't come here for a meal, just a relaxing beer, but being a part of the castle actually makes this place pretty cool. The waiter was nothing short of awesome, even having a conversation with me in German (but then again it does happen to be Austria so that should be expected). What makes this place awesome is the views over the untouched countryside outside of Salzburg, and you can even see over the border into Germany (not that there is any conspicuous white dashed line actually telling you it is Germany). The restaurant itself is very ordinary , only because it has amazing overview of the city-Salzburg we went there. Our waiter was very nice, he took as many photos of us as we ask. Panorama Restraunt is located on the grounds of the Fortress Hohensalzburg with an unbeatable view of Salzburg and the surrounding mountains, which is perfect because we spent about 3 hours checking out the fortress and were ready for food. Our server, Hacki, was kind, attentive, and helped many groups including ours take group photos. There was a good selection that had both Austrian dishes for those that wanted to try and things like pasta for those who wanted something they are more familiar with. Everyone in our group was happy with the dish they ordered (I do not remember the name of my dish but it was pork and had a bread dumpling and was delicious), portions were generous and filled everyone up, and prices were super reasonable at about 14-17 euro per main dish. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the fortress or just wanting an amazing view with their meal! read more

WORST FOOD IN SALZBURG - A TOURIST TRAP: Admittedly, we are foodies from San Francisco but not only was this the worst meal in Salzburg - but also bad service. We had the VIP dinner and concert package. We ordered the veal which was completely overcooked and inedible. It tasted like shoe leather and I couldn't eat it. So I just asked for another bowl of soup. Needless to say I didn't have an entire meal and asked them to comp it which they refused. They didn't even just buy our bottle of wine which they could have easily done. Speaking of which, the wine list is quite limited and mediocre. I had one bite of the dessert dumpling which tasted like rubber. The view is great but avoid this place like the plague. We didn't even stay for the concert because the concert hall while beautiful was way too hot. Don't go here. read more

What a ripoff. They serve you pretzels without asking and when you ask for the bill they charge you 4 euros for two cold and old pretzels. Please avoid this place. We had one coffee, one piece of cake, one lemonade and the no-asked for pretzels and end up paying 18 euros. read more

Good view with expected food quality. The food is tasty though the look is pretty home made style. It's a lovely place to eat while overlooking the city landscape from castle terrace, esp with good sunshine. But it does require patience to get order and checked. The price is acceptable. read more

We booked the Meridian /OBB regional train online @ 11 euros per person from Munich to Salzburg for a day trip. From our hotel in Harras, we took the northbound S7 train to Hauptbahnhof where we proceeded to the regional train platform #11. The train made many stops en route passing lush green pastures outside and houses with rooftop solar panels. Journey one way took 1hr 45 min. The Salzburg Hauptbahnhof was situated northeast of the city center (Zentrum). We purchased all day unlimited use tram tickets at 3 euros. The tram crossed Staatsbrucke bridge over Salzach River to the more historical part with more enchanting sights including Mozart Gebertshaus (birthplace). Then we strolled along narrow well maintained storybook like alleys to reach the Dom with green domes with a large square teeming with souvenir vendors. Further up for 12 euros we rode a cable funicular tram for a short steep climb up to reach the Hohensalzburg Fortress. We found a table at this Festungsrestaurant near where we exited the cable tram. The aerial view of the beautiful city from high up there was truly breathtakingly! It's great to savor the magnificent scenery while sipping a cold local Goldbrau beer; (2 beer and 2 coke zeros for 15,20 euros - Life's good. We retraced our steps on the return trip making sure to take the S7 from Munchen Hauptbahnhof towards the direction of Wolfratshausen. We highly recommend a day to Salzburg. And a drink at this this restauarnr/bar with its magnificent view is a Must! We are glad we did. read more

I know the view is great, but resist this place if you can. It's terrible service, overpriced, and the food isn't great. Also, the waitress came by and said "I have these pretzels that were just made extra if you guys want them". I asked if she meant free, she said yes, then we got charged for them. read more
