my french onion soup with NO CHEESE ... when i ordered extra cheese
    Caroline H.

I've been a loyal customer for years, but today has been a total disaster. I did an online order for bread, yogurt and a pick two. My order arrived timely; however didn't include the yogurt. I called the number to report a problem that was on my emailed receipt (and on their page) and it was a fast busy for over an hour and I called from two different phones. I called again and it just rang and rang and rang. Then, I called their customer service number and was on hold for 25 minutes and the call disconnected. I tried to reach Panera via their website but there is no option to get in touch with them other than the prefílled q&a's that don't address real time issues. I went to Twitter and got a response within 5 minutes, BUT they gave me 2 $3 credits to use within 30 days. That doesn't even cover what I paid for the yogurt with tax, tip and delivery and now the last hour and a half of my time to get someone to actually listen. This isn't the first time this has happened either. It's happened with pick up orders (missing modifications that i've paid for), missing items, food looking thrown together and poor quality. So now since no one will answer the phone at the store ... now everyone can see their terrible customer service.

Unless you're only eating dessert, don't eat here. The desserts are a 7.5 but everything else is a fail. I ordered a grilled cheese with no bacon. It came with bacon. They redid it and brought it back 20 minutes later .... pretty sure it was the exact same sandwich with the bacon picked off. It was cold and hard and tasted like bacon.

We were instantly greeted and everyone was very friendly. The menu is kinda intimidating with so many options and everything having unique names. The staff said they'd help us walk through it all, which was helpful. There are literally 26 different things you can add to your order. My wife ordered a bowl and I order a pita, which they call a "sandweech" for some reason. The portions were large but it somehow got pretty pricey, even though I felt their menu was very reasonable. We each added a fountain drink and then I asked for a side of garlic, assuming it would come with a bunch of pita bread to dip. They asked if we wanted chips or pita, and we said pita. We got 1 piece of pita to share and basically a tub of garlic. It was comical and disappointing. I'm not sure if this is normal or we needed to pay for more pita. We each had half of a pita to dip in a jug of garlic. Overall, the food seemed fresh and it tasted great. The dining area was very clean and the parking was simple. Our only complaint was the side not coming with more pita. After looking at the menu from our table, I realized they could have made ours both a combo, since we ordered drinks and one side, and we could get another side as well, but they never suggested that. We'd probably come back in the future but there are a ton of pita places around town, especially locally owned options.

They will let you try samples in store if you ask. I recently tried their new summer menu and while the picnic burger was delicious, I expected it to be a bit larger for the price (it was on a slider bun). The Hawaiian mac salad was tasty, but was a little heavy handed on the red onion for my own personal preference. I will for sure be trying some other things on their picnic menu, but honestly looking forward to the fall hoping that they will switch back to their regular menu with soup and grilled cheese. I support whatever helps them stay open since I assume soup isn't the most popular option come July and heat waves!

Their menu includes 10+ different soups each day, as well as several sandwiches and some salads. I ordered the garage sale: white cheddar, fresh mozz, rosemary goat mousse, havarti, and swiss on challah. I also got the steak and mushroom soup and the snert soup for Nate. When I arrived my order was waiting for me - it was nicely packaged and secure so everything was safely contained for my short drive home. The sandwich wasn't very melty, I ended up heating it up in a pan myself which helped. It was super tasty, though! I love the combination of cheeses. The steak and mushroom soup was really good, with chunks of meat in a creamy broth. The snert soup was very salty! The menu description indicated the snert soup should have sausage or kielbasa in it, but we didn't notice any. The restaurant itself is pretty small with limited seating, but I'd probably just order there next time. You can also get samples.

Their mission is "empowering youth to reach their full potential" and all the teens we interacted with were so great and polite. They're only open on Thursdays in the summer from 4-7 pm, but it's definitely worth seeking out if you like pizza with a purpose. They offer specialty pizzas that change each week, in addition to cheese pizza and pepperoni pizza. You can even build your own pizza with their farm fresh ingredients (literally, they source many of their ingredients from the 1-acre urban farm located next to the cafe). There's lots of outdoor seating as well as a super cute dining area inside with a colorful and fun mural. You can order online ahead of time and take your food to go as well. Nate and I tried the Micaela, a pepperoni and pineapple pizza, and their supreme with pepperoni, bacon, sausage, onions, peppers, and mushrooms. The pizza came out quickly and it was so delicious - super cheesy and flavorful. I love the char on the crust that comes from the super hot wood oven. Prices range from $10-$15 and they have at least one vegan option each week. We sat inside and it was nice and cool, but it did get pretty loud. Family-friendly spot, we saw lots of kids. I love the mission and food at New City Cafe and make it a priority to visit at least once each summer. Hoping I can make it back again before their season ends!
