Bummer, they finally changed the name from, St. Louis Bread Company to Panera Bread. i know it is only a name, but I do miss calling it, Bread Co. I may not be as frequent of a diner, as when I worked across the street, but I still stop by often. As I have stated before, I absolutely love the Orange Scones. They are my go to for a sweet breakfast treat. Instead of eating at a local fast food restaurant for lunch, I'd recommend a sensational salad here at Panera. The Asian Sesame Chicken Salad is my favorite. It truly is a complete meal. The service is always top-notch and the rewards program is totally worth signing up for. I'm a long-time fan of St. Louis Bread Co. Their bagels are some of my favorites and make a great breakfast sandwich. Their fresh bread in a wide assortment of varieties is carbalicious, and I've been guilty of ordering just a loaf with cream cheese for lunch. Their regular lunch menu is tasty, but some items can be a bit pricey. Not so the 1/2 tuna salad sandwich with tomato soup which is a bargain. It is so fresh, and for its price point, I've yet to find an equal in flavor. It's my favorite place in Alton to have a working lunch. They designed the dining area with a casual atmosphere in mind. There are great group spots and isolated nooks with comfortable chairs. Service is consistent. They quickly fixed things the few times they made mistakes and compensated my time with a cookie. Great Panera overall! As far as food goes, it is very solid compared to all the other Panera chains and they always have had my food correct. The workers are always so nice! Sometimes when I come to study for a few hours, they'll even come get my dirty plate that I have sitting with me. It is very thoughtful of them really, it's not technically their job to do that. I often visit Panera Bread, but lately, their quality control has been disappointing. I understand that restaurants are short-staffed, but it seems that Panera has plenty of employees. Recently, I ordered a salad and didn't receive the extra chicken that I paid for. On another occasion, my salad was missing the dressing, and today my salad was missing olives. First, for dinner I got the Chicken Teriyaki Broccoli Bowl. The Broccoli was cooked well, soft and warm (I have a personal issue with broccoli that is too raw, I just can't do the textures, so I only enjoy broccoli that is steamed to softness). The chicken was also cooked well, moist and juicy with flavor, not tough and overcooked. For my drink I tried one of the new charged lemonades, the strawberry mint flavor. I'm kinda disappointed in Bread Co. I'm a fan of Panera, but the last few times I've been there I've been disappointed. Let me say the staff are very friendly. Harry sparks up a conversation with you as soon as you hit the door, and Donna at the drive through is pretty nice. But, they got my order wrong a couple of times. And it's a simple order. Just a large coffee (I'm a coffee club member) and a sausage egg and cheese sandwich. They always ask how do I want my egg, and I reply with "over easy" just like in the picture. And every time, I get a scramble egg. And I don't have time to go back and request them to correct it. So I'm stuck eating a nasty scrambled egg. And also, I would like some consistency with the jelly. Some days they have jelly and others they don't. It's a breakfast sandwich! People like jelly on their breakfast sandwich! read more

Unfortunately, whether or not they actually have the item you want is questionable. It is 9 AM on a Sunday morning and they are already sold out of spinach artichoke soufflés. If this wasn't a regular occurrence I would not think much of it. However this is a consistent problem here. I posted this first review at an earlier date on Google Reviews: I've been in the restaurant many times and it's great in every way...so, thought I'd try the home delivery. Not the same. I was disappointed. The food tasted good, but I had bought this for company too and was embarrassed. The meat and all the fixings were just piled in the middle of the bread on the sandwiches meaning you only got bread until you get to the middle and the salads were not cut up very well at all....stems on everything. The side bread and pastry were all stale. I'd been bragging about Panera and I sort of had egg on my face. Guess I will stick with in the restaurant when I can get there. UPDATE from today: I guess I didn't learn my lesson the first time. I just ordered again and could not even chew the beef on a "whole steak" sandwich. And, again, the beef and cheese were both just piled in the middle. I am SO angry and upset.....I just paid $27 for this meal NOT counting delivery fee and tip and I had to give the meat to my dog. I called to tell the manager and she hung up on me when I didn't want the same sandwich delivered again.....I couldn't eat it the first time, why would I want it again? I would have taken something different, but not the same thing. I just really wish I could get my money back!! I just wanted to let her know how bad the whole experience was. I think I've finally learned my lesson this time......DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING TO BE DELIVERED from this restaurant. I was really happy back when this opened and Alton finally had a nice coffee shop with extensive open hours that you could sit, drink coffee, and read in. I don't live in Alton anymore, but when I'm home, I typically visit this location once or twice. I do think it's corny that it has a drive-through, and it's not as awesome as if Alton had a funky indie coffeehouse, but it's as good as it gets in this town. read more

I'm a big fan of St Louis Bread Co, but the experience I had this morning was horrible. I stopped by the drive thru since l was on a tight schedule. With one person in front of me, it still took ten minutes to reach the window. I then was told the computer was down and being rebooted. Five minutes or so later, still nothing. Eventually another worker opens the window and says she's re-ringing the order but not charging me for the frozen mocha (I never ordered a frozen mocha). She finally found our sandwich, which I paid full price for. It was cold, hard, burnt, and made incorrectly... I didn't have time to complain since I was late and there were about 7 cars behind me by then. I'll never be going back to this location. read more

I would have to say the quality of food has improved much since my last review. But the coffee has not. I think it's a shame that they underestimate the importance of quality coffee beans, consistently prepared. Sometimes it is strong and bitter, other times like water. Obviously the food quality at bread co is delicious. The problem with this location is that they practically never get my order 100%. Just got home from driving through only to discover that they left the dressing out of my spicy Thai salad. Not so flavorful and delicious without it, rather plain actually. My confidence in the drive thru lowers each time I go to where I am now at the point where if I don't have time to done in to eat (so I can ask them to correct mistakes, which I have also had to do on many occasions when eating there) I don't want think I will chose this location.
